(lacks #93, 106, 109, 112, 117 120, 126, 131, 133, 135, 139, 140). “Nuestra palabra" Then subtitled the Communist Party Organ directed Hector P. Agosti had two times the first #1 (3/6/1950) - #1198 (6/19/1973); and a second time #1 (6/26/1973) - #140 (3/24/1976). It is undoubtedly the most important magazine of the Communist Party of South America not only for the extensive but for its director Hector P. Agosti who was an essayist, politician and journalist, who served as secretary of culture of the Communist Party (Argentina) and He wrote with the pseudonyms of Adriano Adriani, Adrián Adriani, Aguirre, Horacio Cárdenas, Hugo Lamel, Pablo Stylo and Hugo Vilanova. He was an author committed to the Marxist left and one of the most important intellectuals of the PCA who made known in the region the work of the Italian ideologist Antonio Gramsci. Although Agosti adopts realism in the field of culture, he never shared the "Soviet realism" and was oriented towards a "humanist socialism". Without openly clashing with the leadership of the PCA, it contributed to a certain doctrinal renewal of Argentine communism.

CHURCHILL, Winston S.
1973. London: Library of Imperial History in association with the Hamlyn Publishing Group Ltd,, 1973-6. [together with:] The Collected Essays. Centenary Limited Edition. Together 38 volumes, octavo. Original full vellum with 22-carat gold blocking, including titles to spines, armorial device to front boards and ruling to spines and front boards, gilt edges, marbled endpapers, printed on Archive Long-Life Text Paper. The Library of Imperial History went bankrupt before the projected run of 3,000 sets could be completed, so "the print run never exceeded 2,000 copies and only 1,750 sets were ever published" (Cohen). "The specifications were titanic: five million words in 19,000 pages, weighing 19 lbs, taking up 4.5 ft of shelf space. To achieve publication, 11 publishing houses in Great Britain, the United States and Canada released their individual copyrights in exchange for the promise that no other complete edition of Churchill works would be published until the expiration of international copyright in 2019" (Richard M. Langworth). This set is accompanied by the four-volume Centenary Limited Edition of Churchill's collected essays and journalistic writings, again intended to be limited to 3,000 sets, and not alway … [Click Below for Full Description]

Rodolfo Terragno & Miguel Angel Diez (Dir)
Buenos Aires. Folio. #1 May 1973 - #38 June 1976. Wrappers. (Lacks #20, 21, 27). It was "Magazine Questionnaire" the only means that published a document in which the military delimited the universe of the publishable and of the non-publishable. As stated in paragraph 1: "Induce the restitution of fundamental values; that make the integrity of society, such as: order, industriousness, hierarchy, responsibility, competence, honesty, within the context of Christian morality." But before newspapers and magazines knew that they would have to put their beards soaking: "It will be repressed with imprisonment of up to ten years who by any means disseminate, disseminate or spread communications or images with the purpose of disturbing, harming or discrediting the activity of the Armed Forces, of security or police, "promised the communique 19 of the Military Junta. And it was not that a transgression led to a challenge, a harsh warning or a closure: it was known that any disobedience or defiance could cost life. In the months following the coup, the Peronist newspaper Mayoría no longer appears, after 1131 outings to the street. The magazine Cuestionario and its directors, Terragno and Miguel Angel Diez, also go down in exile in Venezuela; with haste, by obligation and with regret for the decision culminates a stage the excellent cultural magazine Crisis and its proprietary director, the businessman and art collector Federico Vogelius is kidnapped and savagely tortured. There are many journalists who go into exile and others who are saved in the interior of the country to save thems … [Click Below for Full Description]

BARTHES Roland
[Click Below for Full Description]

J.G. Ballard
James Graham Ballard (1973) 'Crash', UK first edition, first printing, published by Jonathan Cape. Signed by Ballard on the title page without further inscriptions. Condition: A near fine copy with the slightest of shelf wears. Beautifil page block as shown and a visibly unread copy. The dust jacket is NOT price clipped showing the correct GBP 2.25 net price as called for. Near fine as well. 'Crash' is Ballard's best known novel and stirred up some controversty upon publication. Dealing with symphorophilia the subject matter is not easy to digest for the vast majority of readers. Thus, many reviewers called the author 'sick'. However, this was Ballard's intention as he wanted to rub humanity's worst into its own face. David Cronenberg's (1996) film adaptation stirred up the same controversy again. Starring James Spader and Holly Hunter, the movie won the Special Jury Prize at Cannes. We have more signed Ballard firsts in stock. First and Fine. [Attributes: First Edition]

1973. « L’Archipel du goulag est bien un des plus étonnants livres du XXe siècle. On ne lui trouve aucun équivalent dans la littérature humaine antérieure ». Rare édition originale, en langue russe, de L’Archipel du Goulag ce grand roman de Soljénitsyne. Exemplaire conservé broché, tel que paru. SOLJÉNITSYNE, Alexandre. ARKHIPELAG GULAG 1918-1956. (The Gulag Archipelago). YMCA Press, Paris 1973-75. 3 volumes 8vo of 607, 657 and 582 pp. Publisher’s original photographic wrappers. 193 X 136 mm. THE RARE FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR’S MOST FAMOUS INDICTMENT OF THE SOVIET SYSTEM OF FORCED LABOR. The most significant literary work of the Soviet era. The Russian edition appeared about the end of 1973 in Paris (YMCA-Press); the first translations came out during the first half of 1974. In June 1974 a second volume was published. It had been obvious that several copies of The Gulag Archipelago were available in samizdat (in August 1973 Solzhenitsyn had intimated that his “main work” would be made public if anything were to happen to him). Much has been written in the West about the immense historical, political and artistic importance of the Gulag Archipelago. The many reactions to the book in samizdat literature prove that Soviet dissidents are well aware of its potential impact. Lidia Chukovskaia, the poetess who was ejected from the Writers’ Union for defending Solzhenitsyn, declared that the publication of Arkhipelag Gulag could be compared, in the immeasurability of its consequences, only with the death of Stalin. En 1970, Soljénitsyne reçoit le prix Nobel. La traduction de L’A … [Click Below for Full Description]

Dean Koontz
1973. Condition: Very Good. DEAN and GERDA KOONTZ - APHRODISIAC GIRL (reprint of "BOUNCE GIRL"), published by Oval books #OB-531, published in 1973 (first and only printing under this title). This book is one of a number of 30 or so books that Dean Koontz wrote for Cameo books in 1970 under various pennames (like Linda Mitchell or Gracie Amber). This book is the ONLY book that he actually published under his own name. Dean Koontz has since disavowed and otherwise denied having ever written the other such books (besides this book which was published under his own name and the Leonard Chris book "Hung"), but the evidence is undisputable: The Library of Congress confirms that Gerda Ann Koontz (Dean's wife) holds the copyrights to this book. "Gracie" is one of the five names listed in the dedication of the gothic romance "Demon Child" (which Koontz wrote under the penname of Deanna Dwyer). All five of the first names listed in the dedication of "Demon Child" have turned out to be pseudonyms that Dean had used for this particular "Adult" literature. In an article written by Dean Koontz entitled "Dean's Drive" in the sci-fi fanzine Energumen #8 (6/71), Dean Koontz admitted to writing 30 of these books in 1970 (including "Share The Warm Flesh" - this book), along with Pig Society and The Underground Lifestyles Handbook (both of which were also published by the same publisher, Cameo books in 1970). One of the titles that Dean Koontz admits to having written ("Thirteen and Ready") was written under the penname of Ann Griffin. In an early sci-fi fanzine, Beabohema #8 (1970), Dean Koo … [Click Below for Full Description]

This book is one of a number of 30 or so books that Dean Koontz wrote for Cameo books early in his career under various pennames (like Linda Mitchell or Leonard Chris), and one book he actually published under his own name (Bounce Girl). Vonnegut Jr., Kurt
Delacorte Press, New York, 1973. First edition of Vonnegut's classic work. Octavo, original orange cloth, with drawings by the author. Boldly signed by the author with a large drawing of a self-caricature spanning two pages on the half-title page, "Kurt Vonnegut Sagaponack, N.Y. 1992." Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Bob Giusti. An exceptional example. "You have to hand it to Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. In his eighth novel, Breakfast of Champions, or Goodbye Blue Monday, he performs considerable complex magic. He wheels out all the latest fashionable complaints about America—her racism, her gift for destroying language, her technological greed and selfishness—and makes them seem fresh, funny, outrageous, hateful and lovable, all at the same time" (New York Times). It was adapted to film the 1999 film, directed by Alan Rudolph, starring Bruce Willis, Nick Nolte and Albert Finney as Kilgore Trout.
