Original full vellum with 22-carat gold blocking, including titles to spines, armorial device to front boards and ruling to spines and front boards, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, printed on Archive Long-Life Text Paper. To achieve publication, 11 publishing houses in Great Britain, the United States and Canada released their individual copyrights in exchange for the promise that no other complete edition of Churchill works would be published until the expiration of international copyright in 2019" (Richard M. Langworth). A handsome and elaborately bound set.

        The Best of Isaac Asimov

Sidgwick & Jackson, UK 1973 - A SIGNED UK first edition, first impression. A unique copy with a story to tell ! This copy was signed during Asimov's visit to the UK in 1974 - the copy is dated 14/6/74 by Asimov and comes with the rare brochure - Isaac Asimov : First Visit to England 1974. The following was told to me by the person who purchased the book from one of the people involved. It would seem that Asimov took a shine to the owner of this book, a lady attending a lecture of his on the 14th June in London. This caused something of a stir as the lady was with her husband. When Asmov wrote the folowing on the title page of the book, Astronomer Patrick Moore felt obliged to sign the book too as a way of difusing the tension. Asimov's inscription reads: To XX and, on request, Martin, with love and indifference respectively, Isaac Asimov (!). The Wrapper : The wrapper on this copy is very bright, is unfaded, and is complete. It is unclipped. It shows a touch of shallow chipping at the base of the spine. Looks sharp. The Book : The book is square and very tight. There are no previous ownership inscriptions. The boards are clean and unfaded, the corners sharp. There is a touch of slight bruising to the spine ends. The pages and closed page edges are clean and bright. The binding is tight - no cracked hinges. This copy has been SIGNED and inscribed by Asimov to the title. Patrick Moore has also SIGNED this copy on the ffep and has added : in admiration of the author. See above. The rare First Visit to Britain 1974 booklet is in Near Fine condition, showing gentle creasing tot the spine. Unique. Paypal accepted. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

        POEMS 1928

Ilkley, West Yorkshire, UK: Privately Printed, 1973. First Thus. Paperback. Near fine. Facsimile of Auden's first book in green printed folder, created for the Ilkley Literary Festival. A special copy: inscribed: To Gabriel [Carritt)] a book Wystan would have liked him to have from Stephen [Spender] Jan 24  '74."  Carritt, Spender, and Auden were Oxford classmates. According to Auden's biographer Humphrey Carpenter, Auden met Carritt in 1927. Carritt, the inspiration for some of his earliest love poetry didn't fully reciprocate Auden's passion but their friendship persisted for 45 years. In 1930 they took a walking tour over Easter vacation visiting Hadrian's Wall. Approximately 100 copies were printed (this the issue in green folder) for sale at the festival, and reproduced with the poet's corrections from the Durham University copy. The first edition prepared by Spender for friends in an edition of about 30 copies is nearly impossible to obtain. This extraordinary association copy a facsimile prepared for an event that featured one of Auden's last public readings is of a different order, but nonetheless quite special. The book is fine lacking the errata slip (facsimile) with foreword and lightly creased folder.

Cold Cream Alley: A Collection of Poems by Joe Hendrick

Unpaginated 9 x 8 softcover of Joe Hendricks's first printed poetry collection, together with eight art 13 x 12 portfolios containing two prints, and one portfolio containing a three-page musical composition, by: Joe Hendrick, Ramon Santiago, Robert Conge, Joe Matott, Charles W. Haas, Ray Mayo, Robert E. Smith, Julianna Furlong Williams, Lawrence M. Williams, and Gerry Niewood. Also includes single sheet with an introduction by Jacquelyne Schuman, and a photo of the ten contributors on the reverse. The name Cold Cream Alley comes from Rochester, New York's Cold Cream Building, in which Hendrick worked. The images included were created specially for this project, and the portfolios are their first appearance in print. An impressive example of multi-disciplinary creativity, typography, design, and artistic collaboration, similar to some of the productions of various artistic and literary collectives of the 50s, 60s, and 70s (the Beat Poets, Black Mountain Poets, etc.), but also to some of the fine press productions that would become popular somewhat later. Quite scarce - we found 4 copies in institutional collections, three of which are located in Rochester, one other copy offered for sale, and no records of sale at auction. Limited edition, #173 of 250. Hand-numbered and signed by Hendrick on title page, all portfolios hand-numbered and signed by contributors. Tiny spot on front of slipcase. Rochester: GM / DuBois Corp., 1973. Limited Edition. Collectible; Like New/Not Applicable. Hendrick, Joe; Santiago, Ramon; Conge, Robert; Matott, Joe; Haas, Charles W.; Mayo, Ray; Smith, Robert E.; Williams, Julianna Furlong; Williams, Lawrence M.; Niewood, Gerry.
