        Lithograph]: "D'apres Schatz"

1973 - Original lithograph in black and orange. Image size: 11.75" x 18.5" (with margins 16" x 23.25"). Glazed and framed. Hand Inscribed, titled, signed, and dated by Miller below image: "For Sydney Omarr -- 'D'apres Schatz -- Henry Miller 1973." Scene of the inside of an apartment with a naked man smoking on a bed, while a naked woman washes at a sink, and with a horse in the foreground. Unexamined out of the frame, but all indications are that the lithograph is in fine condition. Old label, contemporary with the frame, indicating the lithograph was framed in Santa Monica, California. Omarr was a close friend of Miller's and the "astrologer to the stars." He published a daily horoscope that appeared in more than 200 newspapers and his books of horoscopes sold over 50 million copies. He started out during the Second World War at the age of 17 when his predictions of horse races, boxing matches, and other sporting events were broadcast on Armed Forces Radio. Like Miller, Omarr surrounded himself with beautiful women and was the personal adviser to Jayne Mansfield, Rita Hayworth, Kim Novak, and Mae West, among others. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

        Child of God.

New York: Random House, 1973. First edition of the author's second novel. Octavo, original half cloth. Inscribed by the author on the half-title page, "For Jimmy and Chris From El Paso Texas September 18, 1990 From your friend Cormac." Additionally signed in full by Cormac McCarthy below. The recipients were close friends of McCarthy. Fine in a near fine price-clipped dust jacket. Jacket design by Muriel Nasser. A nice association. In this taut, chilling novel, Lester Ballard--a violent, dispossessed man falsely accused of rape--haunts the hill country of East Tennessee when he is released from jail. While telling his story, Cormac McCarthy depicts the most sordid aspects of life with dignity, humor, and characteristic lyrical brilliance.         Autograph Letter, Signed. With Signed photograph.

New York, 1973. Typed letter from author P.G.Wodehouse at his Long Island, NY, home, February 1973, to a fan in Glasgow, Scotland. The author mentions a new book that he is writing, to be finished in the spring, which is most likely 'Batchelors Anonymous' which was published in October. Elegantly mounted, framed and glazed. Total size: 545 x 445 mm. P.G.Wodehouse 1881-1975, English comic novelist, short story writer, lyricist and playwright; wrote for the 'Strand' from 1905-1940. Prior to this he had written for the Strand's companion boy's magazine 'The Captain'. In the Jan.1916 issue he introduced 'Jeeves', the ever resourceful 'gentleman's gentleman', and the good-hearted young blunderer 'Bertie Wooster' of the Drones Club, thus creating two of the most famous and best loved characters in twentieth century literature. He created several other well known series and characters including Uncle Fred, Blandings Castle, and Mr. Mulliner, all appearing monthly in the Strand. Most of his works gently parodied the British aristocracy of the 1920s and 1930s and with passing decades, Wodehouse's picture of Edwardian England eventually became nostalgic. After difficult Wartime years he moved to the United States He took American citizenship in 1955 and was awarded a K.B.E late in life- in a BBC interview he claimed he had no further ambitions, now that he was knighted and had a waxwork of him in Madame Tussauds!

Signed Photograph of the Original Poster of The Exorcist

Single sheet. Near Fine. A very impressive collection of autographs relating to one of the landmark horror films in history, 1973's "The Exorcist". On a crisp photograph of the original poster for the film are the clean, unrubbed signatures of Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, William Peter Blatty, William Friedkin, Kitty Winn, Mercedes McCambridge (Regan's voice), Eileen Dietz (Regan's double), Owen Roizman (the cinematographer) and Dick Smith (who did the incomparable make-up). It was one very serious and persistent autograph collector who was able over the years to build up this kind of roster of signatures. The photograph itself measures 8"x10 1/2" and. like the signatures, is clean and very presentable.

        Vermilion Sands

The First UK Printing published by Jonathan Cape in 1973. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Very slight bowing to the rear cover otherwise a very sharp copy with no erasures or inscriptions. Clean boards with bright gilt titling. The pages are clean with no spotting or toning. The pink top-stain is still present and with just a hint of fading adjacent to the spine. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition with only light fading to the lower spine area with preservation of the red lettering (which commonly fades). A tiny amount of creasing at the upper front fold tip and a hint of rippling to the rear cover portion. The Brian Knight wrapper artwork looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The front flap details: 'Kingsley Amis calls Ballard 'one of the brightest stars in post-war fiction'. From his superb imagination he has this time conjured up violent and nightmarish dramas heightened both by the intensity of the landscape and by the twisted, overlit emotions of its denizins'. An increasingly difficult title to find in such collectible condition. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

[POSTER]. Gilbert & George will present their Singing Sculptures "Underneath the Arches"

(The most intelligent, fascinating, serious and beautiful art piece you have ever seen). Melbourne : National Gallery of Victoria, [1973]. Printed poster, 650 x 460 mm. Exhibition poster for an early performance piece by Gilbert & George organised by Kaldor Art Projects. Rare. Provenance : the estate of the late Jennifer Phipps, former curator of art at the National Gallery of Victoria. "For Project 3 in 1973, Gilbert & George presented The Singing Sculpture in both Sydney and Melbourne, merging sculpture and performance and bringing art into everyday life. With their faces and hands painted with a mix of bronze-coloured metallic powder and Vaseline, and a table as their plinth, they sang along to the song of two Depression-era tramps, ‘Underneath the arches’, slowly repeating a series of gestures and circling mechanically like figures inside a music box. Gilbert & George are now among the most famous living British artists, known for their signature billboard-sized pictures in bright neon colours, showing them together, suited or naked, among a kaleidoscope of images and symbols. The Singing Sculpture is now recognised as the art piece that launched their career. It embodied and communicated their idiosyncratic personae and the concept of ‘living sculpture’ that has informed their lives and art over 40 years. Gilbert & George met in the 1960s as students at St Martin’s School of Art where they began to explore radical ideas such as portable sculpture and in 1969 they removed the mediation of the art object entirely, shifting focus to the actions and rituals of their daily lives as ‘Living Sculpture’. Wearing timeless, tailored suits and neckties, they adopted a posture of genteel decorum, enacted through a flow of polite interactions and formal modes of correspondence. They invited audiences to Lecture Sculpture and Meal Sculpture, or to view Walking Sculpture and Magazine Sculpture. The Singing Sculpture visualised Gilbert & George in their new role as an art object. First exhibited in a variety of guises at London art schools, music events and festivals, wherever they could find it a home, after a number of guerrilla presentations the sculpture began to gain momentum and they were invited to travel and present it overseas. The Singing Sculpture was shown 26 times between 1969 and 1972, across Germany, cities in Italy, Belgium, Norway and Switzerland, and at the newly opened Sonnabend Gallery in New York, before the final presentations of the piece in Australia in 1973. Crowds flocked to see The Singing Sculpture in Australia, many staying to watch the work for hours at a time. In Sydney, ‘Underneath the arches’ was repeated 112 times a day, presented for five hours each day over six days in the entrance court of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, then for five hours a day over five days at Melbourne's National Gallery of Victoria. As part of the environment for the work, Gilbert & George also displayed large ‘charcoal-on-paper sculptures’, across the gallery walls." - Kaldor Art Projects websitehttp://kaldorartprojects.org.au/projects/project-03-gilbert-and-george

Signed Photograph of the Original Poster of The Exorcist

      - A very impressive collection of autographs relating to one of the landmark horror films in history, 1973's "The Exorcist".
