The Dark Is Rising; Greenwitch; The Grey King; Silver on the Tree

London: Chatto & Windus,, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977. 4 works, octavo. Original varicoloured boards, titles to spines in black. With the illustrated dust jackets. Full page illustrations in the text. Generally excellent condition, with only light rubbing to extremities and jackets First editions, first impressions, each copy signed on the title page, of these four titles in Cooper's "The Dark is Rising" series, lacking only the first title, "Over Sea Under Stone", which was published by Jonathan Cape, a different publisher, much earlier than the following four, in 1965, and is in some senses a separate title. Both the Dark is Rising and The Grey King were Newbery Award winning titles. Cooper's sequence of stories, which wove elements of Celtic, Arthurian and Norse mythology and magic into the lives of ordinary children, won awards on both sides of the Atlantic, and is a noted source for the Harry Potter books.

Ships daily. This is an oversized or heavy book that requires additional postage for international delivery outside of Canada and the US.

Suzuki Harunobu was a Japanese designer of woodblock print artist in the Ukiyo-e style. He was an innovator, the first to produce full-color prints (nishiki-e) in 1765, rendering obsolete the former modes of two- and three-color prints. Harunobu used many special techniques, and depicted a wide variety of subjects, from classical poems to contemporary beauties. Like many artists of his day, Harunobu also produced a number of shunga, or erotic images. During his lifetime and shortly afterwards, many artists imitated his style. A few, such as Harushige, even boasted of their ability to forge the work of the great master. Much about Harunobu's life is unknown.

TO YOUR SCATTERED BODIES GO and THE FABULOUS RIVERBOAT First British Editions - Two Separate Volumes - One Signed

Rapp & Whiting / Andre Deutsch, London 1973 - First British edition of the wonderfully innovative Hugo award-winning, "To your scattered bodies go" and its magnificent sequel, "The fabulous riverboat". "Riverworld" is the author's most famous invention, a planet on which everyone who ever lived on Earth up to the year 2008 finds himself resurrected one fine day. Published in the UK in 1973, the first volume of the "Riverworld"saga - "To your scattered bodies go" - is a breathtaking novel which promptly and rightly won the Hugo Award. Farmer managed to sustain the momentum in the sequel "The fabulous riverboat", before moving on to the third installement, the colossal "The Dark Design", as large as the first two volumes combined. "To your scattered bodies go" is an about fine copy with very fine, clean boards, a solid, equally well maintained spine, clean white pages, though in the upper right corner of the ffep an eraser has been used to remove a small mark, leaving the faintest of traces and having reduced the density of the paper a little in the small area formerly occupied by the mark. The unclipped dustjacket has a pristine white rear panel and is bright and well preserved. "The fabulous riverboat" is much the same in terms of condition, but it is priceclipped and SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR on the title page. A splendid, precious duo. Random House, USA 1973 - If you are a discerning Koontz collector then this is the copy you are missing from your shelf. My own personal copy for many years, I am selling it because I need to trim down my collection and, as such, I am concentrating on the UK editions. Published by Random House in 1973 this book is SIGNED AND LENGTHILY INSCRIBED BY DEAN R KOONTZ AS FOLLOWS: "TO HOWARD, THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVOURITES OF MY OWN BOOKS - IN PART BECAUSE THE EDITOR DIDN'T ASK FOR THE CHANGING OF A SINGLE WORD, WHICH IS SINFULLY EASY. AS EVER - K.R. DWYER ALIAS DEAN R KOONTZ." The jacket is Very Fine and unclipped - it states $5.95. The book is Very Fine and the copyright page states FIRST EDITION and then has the run of numbers 2-9, which is how Random House signified their first editions at that time. The page edges are beautiful and white, like they were printed yesterday. The book was published under the K R Dwyer pseudonym and this is reflected on the dust jacket, book and copyright page. A truly superb example of this title with a Koontz signature from the early 80s and at the time of listing the only 1st edition on ABE that is actually hand signed to the book itself. Autograph musical manuscript signed of De temporum fine comoedia. Das Spiel vom Ende der Zeiten. Undated, but ca. 1970

2 pp., being pages 143 and 144 of the full score. Large folio (416 x 318 mm.). Notated in ink and pencil on 30-stave music manuscript paper. Inscribed to Uli Märkle, a close collaborator and friend of the distinguished Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan. Slightly worn. . De temporum fine comoedia (Play for the End of Time), a major work, was Orff's final musical statement. It was composed over a period of some ten years and had its first performance on August 20, 1973 at the Salzburg Music Festival under Herbert von Karajan with the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra. "The gestation of De temporum fine comoedia, which is the epitome of Orff’s theatrical work, began while he was working on Prometheus. The score to this ‘Spiel vom Ende der Zeiten’ was completed between 1970 and 1971, with texts taken from the Oracula sibyllina, an Orphic Hymn to Oneiros, and also from the Carmina Burana collection. Orff lends to a theological idea a theatrical form that was already present in Des Turmes Auferstehung: Origene’s ‘apokatástasis pánton’, namely the idea that the world returns to God with the consequence that all guilt is temporally finite. The vastness of this eschatological scenario feeds the visionary quality of this modern mystery play. And in the vision invoked by the Anachoretes one participates in the repentance of Lucifer, announced symbolically in the music by open 5ths to a blare of trumpets. There follows a transfiguring dematerialization of all musical parameters, then a canon for four viols. This symbolic mandala representing ‘Tà pánta Noûs’ (‘Everything is Spirit’) and closing with a reference to Anaxagoras, signifies both the end of the comoedia and of Orff’s creative career. " Alberto Fassone in Grove onlineWe would like to thank Ms. Sabine Fröhlich of the Orff-Zentrum in Munich for her kind assistance in the identification of this manuscript.

        Nadia (First Edition)

Tokyo: Mainichi Shinbunsha, 1973. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Soft cover. Fine. This is a first edition, first printing of the highly regarded photobook \"Nadia\" published by Mainichi Shinbunsha, Tokyo in 1973. Ryuichi Kaneko and Ivan Vartanian in their reference work on Japanese Photobooks, \"Japanese Photobooks of the 1960s and 70s\" provide an excellent critique of \"Nadia\", \".in this work the nude becomes something close to the reader as opposed to a removed and unknowable beauty.the pursuit of photography here is self-fulfilling while it finds its ultimate subject in the nude form of a lover.A facsimile edition of \"Nadia\" was released as part of the Asahi Sonorama series. The initial printing was published in 1977, and the third printing was in 1982. The continued success of this volume reflects the photobook\'s appeal to young photographers who became reacquainted with the nude subject as something personal and intimate. Containing 90 black-and-white high quality gravure photographs, the book measures approximately 11 x 12 inches and is bound in photographically illustrated wraps. The condition of the book is FINE- with very minimal surface wear to the wraps. Cited in the reference work on Japanese Photobooks, Japanese Photobooks of the 1960s and 70s by Ryuichi Kaneko and Ivan Vartanian.
