"Kitsch". Vollständiges eigenh. Manuskript mit Namenszug auf Büttenpapier.

Ohne Ort, 1973.. Qu.-Fol. (29,5 x 42,5 cm). Einseitig beschriebenes Bl. in drei Farben (Schwarz, Rot, Blau), auf schwarzem Untersatzkarton montiert.. Links oben eigenh. bezeichnet: "Kitsch: für Mob art & tone Art 1973. Peripathese". Otto M. Zykan. Zwischen Dadaismus und Strukturdenken. Wien, 2009). - Etw. staubrandig. -

Quantised Singularities in the Electromagnetic Field," in Proceedings of the Royal Society A. 133, 1931, pp. 60-72

FIRST EDITION OF DIRAC'S PREDICTION OF A NEW ELEMENTARY PARTICLE - THE POSITRON - ALONG WITH MAGNETIC MONOPOLES. Though not taken terribly seriously at the time, in 1973 "Heisenberg generously called it…perhaps the biggest jump of all big jumps in physics of our century" (Kragh, Quantum Generations, 191). In 1928, Paul Dirac formulated the so-called "Dirac equation" which describes the behavior of fermions and "was the first theory to account fully for special relativity in the context of quantum mechanics" (Wikipedia). Dirac's new theory, however, did have a problem: the Dirac equation "formally included solutions with negative energy. Contrary to the situation in classical physics, these could not be dismissed as nonphysical but had to be taken seriously - that is, somehow to be related to some objects of nature. In 1929, Dirac believed he had found the solution to the problem… of electrons having negative kinetic energy" (ibid 190). Dirac wrote to Bohr, arguing that "not all states of negative energy are occupied, but that there are a few vacancies of 'holes.'… [O]ne can easily see that such a hole would move in an electromagnetic field as though it had a +ve charge. These holes I believe to be protons" (Kragh 1990, 91). "Dirac's proton-as-electron theory, published in 1930, assumed a world of negative-energy states occupied by an infinite number of electrons governed by Pauli's exclusion principle. Only the few unoccupied states, the 'holes,' would appear as observable physical entities… The hypothesis was universally met with skepticism" (ibid 191). In early 1931, Dirac realized "that the hole had to have the same mass as the electron. In the new version, as it appeared in a remarkable paper [this paper]…the antielectron was introduced for the first time as a 'new kind of particle unknown to experimental physics, having the same mass and opposite charge to an electron (Kragh 1990). Furthermore, as the proton was now a separate species of particle, Dirac argued that it would probably have its own antiparticle. In essence, Dirac was proposing that there had to be a "particle distinct from the proton, positively charged, but having the mass of an electron" (Peacock, The Quantum Revolution, 67). In less than a year, the American physicist Carl Anderson would discover positively charged particles in cosmic ray showers just as Dirac had predicted. Anderson named the new particles 'positrons' "positive electrons with precisely the same mass as the electron, but positively charged" (ibid). CONDITION & DETAILS: Complete. 4to (Quarto). 10 x 7 inches (250 x 175mm). [vi], 695, [xiv]. Two small ex-libris stamps on the title page, one just a few numbers. In text illustrations throughout. Ronald Vere Tooley, considered the effective founder of the modern antiquarian map trade, was born and raised in London. After serving in World War I where he was one of the few in his regiment to survive the Battle of Cambrai, he joined the London booksellers Francis Edwards Ltd where he produced catalogues of rare books and old maps throughout the 1920s. After an attempt at his own business in the 1930s, Tooley rejoined Francis Edwards following World War II. Tooley devoted much of his time to the history of cartography and was considered an authority on early maps and cartographers. He authored multiple books on the subject and founded the Map Collectors' Circle, which published a series of monographs on historical cartography from 1963-1975. The festschrift, My Head is a Map, compiled in 1973 for his 75th birthday by British Library Map Librarians Helen Wallis and Sarah Tyacke, celebrated his contributions to the world of antiquarian maps. Hustlers Convention

New York: Harmony Books, 1973. First Edition. Nearly pristine copy of this absolutely seminal work, a book-length jive masterpiece chronicling street-life in Harlem from the Fifties through the Seventies, glorifying the violent lives of crap-shooters, pimps, drug dealers and gang-bangers. Nuriddin recorded the work (also under the nom-de-guerre "Lightnin' Rod") in 1973; no promotional copy for that recording is present here, leading us to assume that the book preceded the album by some months. Among hip-hop afficionados, Hustlers Convention (in its recorded version) is widely cited as one of the "lost masterpieces" of rap music, preceding Sugar Hill Gang's Rapper's Delight (generally hailed as the first true "rap" album) by some six years. In a 2014 profile of Nuriddin in The Guardian, critic Graeme Thomson calls Hustlers Convention "...a crucial but largely overlooked link in hip-hop's evolutionary chain. The genre's pioneers - Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, Fab 5 Freddy - knew it by heart. Grandmaster Flash played it at early block parties, and it was later sampled by the Beastie Boys, Wu Tang Clan and countless others...[the album is] a premonition of gangsta rap, a vivid depiction of ghetto life lived large, complete with shoot-em-up sound-effects..." Indeed, both the cadence and the ethos of much early hip-hop is evident in Nuriddin's metrical six-line stanzas, in which one finds a clear link between the "toasting" tradition which preceded him and the rap tradition which followed. In the opening stanzas, for example, we encounter rhymes which could just as easily have been written and rapped by Big Bank Hank or Melle Mel : I've seldom lost, 'cause my game was so boss, I mean I had my shit down pat, and I was runnin' through bitches, like rags to riches, 'cause that's where my heart was at Yes, I was a down stud's dream a hustler supreme, there wasn't no game that I couldn't play, and if I caught a dude cheatin' I would give him a beatin' and I might even blow 'em away! Though released by the music division of a major trade publisher (Harmony was a subsidiary of Crown), the book is surprisingly uncommon, with no others located in commerce (2014) and few copies in university special collections. We would suggest that copies in collectible condition, such as this one, are seldom-seen. A documentary of Nuriddin's life, also titled Hustlers Convention, has been scheduled for release in Spring, 2015, directed by Mike Todd and executive produced by rapper ChuckD. Paperback original. Octavo. Illustrated card wrappers; 125, (2)pp; author portrait and promotional blurb at rear. Minimal external wear; slight soil to upper edge of text block; still a tight, apparently unread copy, Near Fine.

        XILOGRAFIE

EDITRICE SARDA FOSSATARO 1973 - RACCOLTA IN CARTELLA DI 26 XILOGRAFIE DELL'AUTORE. LA CARTELLINA PRESENTA LIEVE BRUNITURA E LIEVI SEGNI DEL TEMPO. LE XILOGRAFIE, ALL'INTERNO, SONO PERFETTE. MISURE: 49X34 cm. Inscribed by the contributor, Lipták. Printed in only 2200 copies. In publisher's red cloth, with dust jacket. 507, (1) p. Kornai's book about the problems of mathematical planning in an economic point of view. It was first published in Hungarian 1965 and 1967 in English. János Kornai (b. 1928) was the first economist behind the Iron Curtain who published critical studies on the Soviet-style command economics of Eastern Europe. Kornai studied philosophy in Budapest, but - according to his memoirs - he chose to be an economics after reading Marx's Capital. Started his career as a journalist and soon became the economics editor of the largest Communist newspaper. After a few years, in 1955 he was fired for lack of Communist convictions. In 1956 he participated in the Hungarian Revolution. His early work "Overcentralization in Economic Administration" (1957) was published in English in 1959 and his critical studies on central planning started to spread in the West and his career took off outside Hungary. Kornai received many invitations to visit foreign institutions, but he was denied a passport by the Hungarian authorities and was not allowed to travel until 1963. Later he became visiting professor at the London School of Economics, at Yale, Stanford, Princeton and other Universities all over the world, and in 1986 Professor of Economics at Harvard University. President Nixon thanks Republican Congressman Bill Young for voting to sustain his veto of the War Powers bill which had been overridden by both the House and Senate two days earlier ??? ???I fervently hope the dangerous ramifications of this measure can be avoided ?????? Under the War Powers Act, the President can send U.S. troops into a combat area for only 90 days without specific congressional approval

Typed Letter Signed ???RN??? as President, 1 page, 6.75??? x 8.75???. On pale green White House stationery with blind embossed presidengtial seal at top center. Washington, D.C., November 9, 1973. To Congressman C.W. Bill Young. Fine condition. In full, ???Despite the negative outcome of the House vote on November 7 to sustain my veto of the War Powers bill, your strong support on this important issue is greatly appreciated. I feel certain the test of time will prove your position a wise one, and I fervently hope the dangerous ramifications of this measure can be avoided ?????? On October 24, 1973, President Nixon vetoed the War Powers Resolution passed by both Houses of Congress. His message to the House of Representives began ???I hereby return without my approval House Joint Resolution 542--the War Powers Resolution. While I am in accord with the desire of the Congress to assert its proper role in the conduct of our foreign affairs, the restrictions which this resolution would impose upon the authority of the President are both unconstitutional and dangerous to the best interests of our Nation?????? Copy of the text of President Nixon???s veto message is present. On November 7, 1973, the House of Representatives (284-135; 280 were necessary to override) and the Senate (75-18; 67 were necessary to override) voted to override the President's veto. As enacted, H. J. Res. 542 is Public Law 93-148 (87 Stat. 555), which became law without the President's signature on November 7, 1973. Under the new law, the President can send U.S. troops into a combat area for only 90 days without specific congressional approval. It also gives Congress the power to halt the commitment earlier by legislation not subject to the President???s veto. The 1973 War Powers Resolution has never been repealed.

A day after telling the world that the United States has concluded an agreement to end the Vietnam War, he thanks a loyal Republican Congressman for his support ?now that we have finally achieved peace with honor in Vietnam ? I also am confident that history will prove you to have been right ??

Typed Letter Signed ?RN? as President, 1 page, 6.75? x 8.75?. On pale green White House stationery with blind embossed presidengtial seal at top center. Washington, D.C., January 24, 1973. To Congressman C.W. Bill Young. Fine condition. In full, ?Now that we have finally achieved peace with honor in Vietnam, I particularly want you to know how much I have appreciated the support you have given during these difficult years to the policies that made that achievement possible. Without those in the Congress who stood steadfastly as you did, we could not have won the settlement that I announced last night. I know how great the pressures have been. I know the sort of attacks to which you have been subjected, as a result of following your conscience. But I also am confident that history will prove you to have been right, and that in the years to come you can look back with pride on the stern test nobly met.?President Nixon spoke at 10:01 PM in the Oval Office at the White House on January 23, 1974. His address was broadcast live on nationwide radio and television. An advance text of the President's address was released on the same day. A copy of the text is included. Before delivering the address, the President met separately with members of the Cabinet and six members of the bipartisan leadership of the Congress. On January 24, 1973, the day he wrote and signed the letter here offered, President Nixon met with the expanded bipartisan leadership of the Congress to discuss the agreement. On the same day, the White House released the following related material: the texts of the agreement and protocol to the agreement; the transcript of a news briefing on the agreement by Henry A. Kissinger, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs; and fact sheets on the basic elements of the agreement, the International Commission of Control and Supervision, and the Four-Party Joint Military Commission. Republican Charles William (Bill) Young represented Florida in the House of Representatives from 1971-2014. At the time of his death, he was the senior Republican in Congress, having served over 42 years. Young was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions which nominated Nixon in 1968 and 1972, Ford in 1976, and Reagan in 1984. He had supported President Nixon during the House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearings publicly suggesting, ?Maybe a scenario has been worked out in advance,? with all 21 committee Democrats having already decided to impeach the President.
