(SHIOTA, TAKESHI). Shiota, Takeshi. TAKESHI SHIOTA: FUKAKI FUCHI YORI (FROM THE DEEP SLOW CURRENT) - MINAMATA 68-72. Tokyo: Nishi Nippon Shimbun-sha, 1973. First Edition. 8vo. Pictorial Self Wrappers. Photography Monograph. Good +. 168pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. Text in Japanese. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. The book is the moving Japanese photojournalistic counterpoint to "Minamata: Words and Photographs" - W. Eugene Smith and Aileen Smith's documentation of the same environmental tragedy published two years later. A most presentable example of this exceedingly uncommon item in the publisher's printed obi showing some overall wear, rubbing, and handling along with some mottling and occasional delamination to its black wrappers as well as a slight soft crease through a portion of the textblock at the upper foredge corner. It has been priced accordingly.         Brief mit eh. U. und Gedichttyposkript mit eh.

Korrekturen. 4°. 1/2 und 2/3 S. Dat. 8. Okt. 1973.. .

Les Diners de Gala [The Dali Cookbook]

Felicie, New York 1973 - FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY DALI on the copyright page to Sergio Franchi, the popular Italian-American tenor and actor (1926 - 1990): "Dear Sergio / Dali". Also signed (in a faint marker) by Dali on the preceding page. "Les Diners de Gala, the opulent cookbook that [Dali] conceived and illustrated, sets out a surrealist gastro-aesthetics that is at once visceral and ascetic, Dionysian and Catholic. [It] showcases Dali's ornamentation of menus from such legendary restaurants as Maxim's and La Tour d'Argent and features the recipes of their chefs. Dali stages himself within the sumptuous culinary mise-en-scene. Les Diners de Gala moves between 'sado-masochistic pleasure', 'acute sybaritism', Rabelaisian scatology, religious ecstasy, and anaesthetic asceticism." (Richard Gough, On Cooking). With 136 recipes in 12 categories: exotic dishes; eggs & sea food; first course; meats; snails & frogs; fish & shell fish; game & poultry; pork; vegetables; aphrodisiacs; desserts; hors-d' oeuvre. With notarized letter of provenance from Franchi's daughter explaining the circumstances of the inscription. Translated by Captain J. Peter Moore. New York: Felicie, 1973. Quarto, original illustrated cloth, original illustrated foil dust jacket. Book near-fine with a little wear at corners; dust jacket near-fine with a slight bit of general wear. Cambridge Encyclopedia, online: "Poet, born in Marradi, NC Italy. His life was blighted by a serious mental illness which forced him to spend long periods of time in mental hospitals, where he eventually died. While copies of the signed limited will periodically show up for sale, copies with contemporary inscriptions - particularly to someone with a close, long-standing connection to the press - are genuinely rare.         The Ristigouche and its Salmon Fishing with a Chapter on Angling Literature by Dean Sage. Edited by Colonel Henry A. Siegel and Harry C. Marschalk, Jr.

The Angler's and Shooter's Press, Goshen, CT 1973 - A book of almost legendary importance, recounting the author's adventures at Camp Harmony on the Restigouche River in New Brunswick, and drawing upon his long experience fishing the river. Dean Sage's contributions to angling literature are few in number but profoundly influential: "Ten Days' Sport on Salmon Rivers", published in the Atlantic in 1875, is a classic account. His library catalogue (2 vols.,1896, 1904) remains an important document in the history of angling bibliography and collecting. Sage's section on "The Atlantic Salmon," in Salmon and Trout (1902), is a synthesis of his own first hand knowledge as a fisherman and his assessment of the extensive literature. The Ristigouche and Its Salmon Fishing remains the work for which Sage is best known. A facsimile of the first edition, with additional material, including the signed color plates, an introduction by Arnold Gingrich, and "A Notice of Dean Sage" by Dewitt Sage. Full brown polished calf, triple gilt fillet borders surrounding a gilt design of an osprey catching a salmon on upper cover, gilt spine, t.e.g. Fine copy, housed in a sturdy cloth slipcase With hand-colored frontispiece entitled "Dean Sage's Favorite Flies" by Charles DeFeo (signed by him), an additional color plate after watercolor by Ogden M. Pleissner (signed by him), several black and white plates. 1 vols. 4to Number 225 of 250 copies, initialled by the publisher [Attributes: Signed Copy]
