Federico Fellini and Magali Noël on the set of "Amarcord"

N.p.: N.p., 1973. Vintage double weight silver gelatin still photograph of Federico Fellini and actress Magali Noël on the set of "Amarcord," taken by photographer Patrick Morin. With Morin's stamp on the verso, and importantly, the stamp of the Swedish Magazine Service for whom Morin was working, dated August 3, 1973. A vintage print of what has become one of the most iconic images of Fellini at his peak. One of the greatest directors of women in the history of world cinema, at the center of his element, projecting confidence and focus, and the subject of female adoration. Noël was a favorite of Fellini, appearing in "La Dolce Vita" (1960), "Satyricon" (1969), and "Amarcord" (1973). She also appeared in a number of other important foreign films, including "Du rififi chez les hommes" (Jues Dassin, 1955), "Les Grandes Man?"uvres" (René Clair, 1955)) "Boulevard" (Julien Duvivier, 1960), and "Z" (Costa Gavras, 1969). Morin was one of the first high-end celebrity photographers, capturing classic images of figures including Charles De Gaulle, Erich von Stroheim, Grace Kelly, Jean Cocteau, Kirk Douglas, Gina Lollobrigida, Anouk Aimee, and Marcello Mastroianni. He is perhaps best known for staging (along with Roger Vadim) a scandalous half-naked-in-Cannes image of Brigitte Bardot on the beach, before the term "paparazzi" was even coined. In a custom museum-quality frame, archivally mounted, with UV glass. 7.5 x 11.25 inches. Two tiny surface artifacts, else Fine.

New York: Delacorte Press, 1973. First Edition. First Printing. Near Fine in a Very Good+ jacket. Touch of faint foxing to upper edge of textblock and to the cloth on the upper board edges. The edges of the olive-colored boards and endpages are faintly discolored, as usual, else a sharp copy. The jacket is unclipped, with three closed tears and some associated creasing along the upper edge, along with a single tear near the base of the spine. Presents well overall, with the lettering on the spine panel perfectly bright and absent the usual toning. This copy is inscribed by O'Brien on the front endpage in an early hand: "To Mr. and Mrs. Larson, With best wishes and warm regards. Many thanks for buying it! Tim O'Brien." While O'Brien has signed plenty, early inscriptions like this are indeed desirable. An attractive copy of the author's first novel, a cornerstone of Vietnam War literature.

        To Be of Use

[Berkeley]: Maidu Press. [c. 1973]. "A Maidu Free Poem" broadside of the title poem of Piercy's 1973 collection. This version has one small change from the book version published in 1973 (there were several more changes in later versions). The edition of this broadside is unstated, but the broadside is marked as "1/ ." The only other Maidu Free Poems we are aware of are a 1971 Gary Snyder broadside, "Swimming Naked in the Yuba River," and "I Saw the Green Yuba Flow" by Franco Beltrametti. The Snyder was done in an edition of 200 copies; OCLC records two copies of the Beltrametti. The Maidu Press was the creation of two of Snyder's neighbors and friends, Steve Sanfield and Dale Pendell, both of them poets living on the San Juan Ridge, as Snyder was. This broadside reproduces calligraphy by Snyder, according to the Snyder bibliography. The presence of a blacked out mistake in the last line of the first stanza and the backward limitation (the copy number specified but not the number of copies, rather than vice versa) combine to suggest this is a trial copy or an unused or proof copy. We have no evidence that the edition was ever done: the Piercy bibliography lists no Maidu Press publication and OCLC shows no copies being held in institutional libraries. A scarce, virtually unknown collaboration between Piercy and Snyder, both of them major American poets of the postwar era, and both associated with the counterculture of the 1960s and beyond. 8-1/2" x 11", on heavy orange paper. Fine. First Edition. No Binding.

Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature & the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, this Toni Morrison novel is one of the most sought after titles published in the last 50 years. This copy is clean & bright & tight. The orange cloth & gilt stamping are quite brilliant. There is a barely noticeable bump to the lower rear fore corner. The dust jacket is also very clean & bright-- there is none of the usual fading to the spine or the front panel. There are two tiny tears-- one (less than 1/4 inch) tear to the lower front panel & one (less than 1/8 inch) tear to the rear flap. The original price is present on the front flap. Overall, a really sharp copy of this hard to find book. Size: 8vo [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

It had a very limited initial run of 4,000 copies and is a complex and sweeping tale set in immediate post WWII. Book is in VG condition. Spine is straight with light separation at the head of the text block. Slight bump to top of rear corner and a pinhead sized spot of rubbing to the bottom front corner. Text block is soiled and toned with age with a concentration of soiling at bottom of text block where pages were likely turned. "GCB", "800" and a symbol have been penciled into the top of the FEP. No dog ears or torn pages. First Edition, First Printing. Viking Press. 1973. DJ is in VG condition and is mylar-protected.
