Artists Poster Committee of Art Workers Coalition, Frazier Dougherty, Jon Hendricks, Irving Petlin, R.L. Haeberle
[New York], [NY], 1970. 63 x 96.5 cm.; color; edition size unknown; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed Poster produced by the Artists' Poster Committee of Art Workers Coalition [Frazier Dougherty, Jon Hendricks, Irving Petlin] protesting the American war in Viet Nam -- featuring the 1969 photograph of the My Lai massacre by R.L. Haeberle. Originally conceived by an offshoot group of the Art Workers Collation [AWC], the poster was intended as a collaboration between the AWC and The Museum of Modern Art [MoMA]. However, after MoMA withdrew its association with this publication, the Artists Poster Committee went ahead and published it with out the Museum's involvement. The paper for the project was donated by Peter Brant, who's name is printed on poster along with members of the Artists' Poster Committee of Art Workers Coalition. Brant is occasionally credited with designing the poster, however, this is erroneous. Reference : "Materializing Six Years : Lucy R. Lippard and the Emergence of Conceptual Art" by Catherine Morris, Vincent Bonin, Julia Bryan-Wilson. Brooklyn / Cambridge, NY / MA : Brooklyn Museum / MIT Press, 2012, pp. 62. Fine. A signed copy of the 1970 paperback "Ralph Eugene Meatyard" published by Gnomon Press. 34 pages, thin paperback 4to featuring black and white photography. The signature is blue pen and reads "regards Gene Meatyard-s" It is unclear to me why he added "-s" to the end of his name. The signature is without COA - please compare the few known examples. There is a visible bump and tear near the top edge of the spine. The binding is tight and internally the pages are clean and unmarked. You can see that the cover is a bit worn. The signature is still nearly as sharp as the day he signed it. Meatyard passed away shortly after this book was signed. Few copies of his signed photography books exist. If you have any questions please let me know. I am currently in California and the book will likely ship from there. It will be well packaged. Buyer can purchase shipping insurance if needed (please message me first). Thank you for looking. [Attributes: Soft Cover]

Foucault, Michel
1970. Foucault, Michel SIGNED LETTER FROM MICHEL FOUCAULT 8 1/4" x 10 1/2" Ephemera Condition is Very Good+, a few creases from original folds; minimal toning and wear from usage. This hand-written letter from Foucault was dated July 20, most likely in 1970, as the letter mentions that the New York postal service has been on strike. The letter is a reply to a request for a book of Foucault's on Pierre Klossowski [Balthus], and Foucault apologizes for not being able to send it without a huge delay. He thanks the recipient for his letter, and mentions that his letter followed Foucault from point to point. Foucault then mentions that the recipient has put together a "remarkable" team and that they will have a "marvelous ensemble of texts." Most likely this letter is from the time when Foucault was professor at the Univeristy at Buffalo, in NY, and would have been written just after he was elected to the College de France.

[John Cage] Kostelanetz, Richard
Praeger, 1970. First Edition. INSCRIBED by Cage in 1971 to Ellsworth Snyder: "for Ellsworth Snyder, / with admiration and friendship / John Cage, Madison '71." Ellsworth Snyder and Cage were longtime friends. Snyder performed the composer's work on many occasions, perhaps most infamously at Cage's much-protested 1965 appearance at the University of Illinois: "At one point [Snyder] crawled under the piano, made a show of carefully marking a precise point on the under-body of the instrument with a tape measure, then hit that spot with a mallet. Even more provocative for that particular audience, he had planted a loose piano string in the instrument, and after striking an unusually percussive chord he slowly pulled the ostensibly broken string out of the piano. By this time the audience was screaming and throwing objects at the stage." (Johanne Rivest, "In Advance of the Avant Garde: John Cage at the University of Illinois, 1952-69," 1999). Snyder contributes an essay to this volume titled, "Chronological Table of John Cage's Life." Additionally, he is particularly thanked by editor Kostelanetz for his help in assembling the bibliographic sections at the end of the book. One of the earliest books to consider all aspects of Cage's career as writer, performer, artist, and composer. A superb association. Fine in a Near Fine dust jacket. Despite the original production lasting a total of only 54 performances, Colleen Dewhurst (who co-starred with Jessica Tandy) was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play, and won the 1971 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Performance. Referred to as Albee's "most important play yet" by Clive Barnes of The New York Times.

[Poster / Religious Propaganda]
Kowloon, Hong Kong: Christian Witness Press, (n. d.). C. 1970s. Four broadsides printed in color. 30-1/4" x 21" Attached at the top-edge with maroon tape. A very good set, still very bright, with some minor occasional tears/creases and a faint spot of foxing here and there; overall a VG+ set. Item #44943 These posters were said to bring the viewer closer to God. The images progress much like a graphic novel, beginning with a figure running from a tiger along a cliff's edge, his face contorted in horror, he takes hold of a vine to lower himself from the cliff only to find an alligator with open jaws waiting at the bottom. When he tries to backtrack there is one black rat and one white rat crouched at the top of the vine. The final scene depicts the tiger and alligator turning away as the figure reaches for a glowing red cross on the cliffs edge, just out of reach, his face calm. Viewed in sequence they evoke a striking allegory, the rats possibly signify a retreat from the (literal) jaws of sin through deceit, the sinner turns from the rats at the last minute toward Christ, his fate is unknown but his countenance suggests a peaceful resolve.

An about near fine copy with a couple of small spots to the fore edge and some very minor wear to the corners in a very good plus dust jacket with some fading to the spine, a small tear and some minor loss to the top of the spine, a small crease to the top of the front panel and some other very minor wear. Still, a very nice copy of this elusive book. (Parr & Badger v1, 291). [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

Shallow loss from insect damage to bottom edge of the first 4 issues. Small section missing from the front cover of No. 100. This run includes many iconic issues, including the 2 part Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (issues 95 and 96) in excellent condition.
Glückliche Zeit in Madagaskar".
