Gabriele Mazzotta, 1970. Six pieces, varying sizes, mostly B&W, some color. 1 of 500 copies. German text. Simple and to the (no) point, dadaism flowered from the middle of W.W.I to the early 1920s on both the Continent and in the U.S. These reproductions Germanically illustrate the collaborative and spontaneous works (often using photo montage) of an artistic set whose influence of the art world was felt for decades after. Wood-grained cardboard portfolio with paste-on front label in blue lettering and design. Mild scrapes on front and tape closure mark evident front and reverse. Publisher's paste-on label affixed inside front cover. Interior gutter shows mild creasing along fold with slight bumping of interior corners - VERY GOOD condition. Items FINE condition, so combo NEAR FINE condition. Shipped in plastic sleeve.

Black Panther Party
New York: The Committee to Defend the Panther 21, 1970. Condition: Very Good. Tabloid format, [8] pp [including covers], printed on newsprint. An informational publication on the history and aims of the Black Panther Party issued during the New Haven 21 trial. It includes an 8 point program on the cover, dealing with health, education, food, labor, housing, self-defense, and political organization and communication with other movement groups, concluding with the following statement. "The Black Panther Party regards itself as a socialist organization and believes that the means of production should be in the hands of the people. They declare that man can only live creatively when free from the oppression of capitalism." The interior prints a statement to Judge Murtaugh from the Panther 21, and other coverage of the trial. This is one of at least two variants of the publication we've seen -one, one of which features a portrait of Bobby Seale, and one of which advertises the upcoming April 4th rally at Central Park to free the 21. This is the former, and the first example we've seen of this state. Single horizontal fold line, with overall toning and some stress creases and short closed tears to extremities. Very good.

Lawrence, Kansas: Reconstruction Press, Inc, 1970. Wraps. Good. Wraps. 17" X 11 1/4". Newsprint, folded, 12-24pp each. Age-toning at edges, with occasional dampstaining, light soiling, creasing, and chipping and tearing at edges and extremities. This item is oversize and will require additional postage for international or priority orders. A solid run of the first 34 issues of Vortex (née Reconstruction, Vortex arose after a merge with the Kansas City-based Screw), the radical underground newspaper of Lawrence, Kansas. Over just a few years, Vortex covered the budding Vietnam War protest movement, the Civil Rights Movement, police brutality and corruption, New Left politics, and the music, literature, art, and lifestyle of the counterculture movement. Frequently running into the law and even watched by the FBI, Vortex's humor didn't soften headlines like "Lawrence Courts Rape Blacks" or the diagram of a molotov cocktail in the second issue of Reconstruction. This set of 34 issues includes the following: Reconstruction: Vol. 1, No. 1, Issue 1, Feb. 10-24, 1969 (soiling to covers). Vol. 1, No. 2, Issue 2, March 3-17, 1969. Nixon, Richard; Joe DiMaggio
Washington, D.C, 1970. Rare Richard Nixon Presidential Commission appointing Baseball Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio as a "Member of the Conference on Physical Fitness and Sports." Dated September 25th, 1970 the appointment is signed by President Richard Nixon and Secretary of State William Rogers with the Presidential seal. Double matted and framed. In fine condition. From the personal collection of Joe DiMaggio. Included is letter of provenance from DiMaggio's estate signed by his two granddaughters. An exceptional association linking two American icons. Double matted and framed. President Richard Nixon was an avid baseball fan, he attended 11 games while serving in office and, in 1985, he arbitrated the dispute between the Major League Baseball owners and umpires over expanded league playoff bonuses. Nixon made headlines when on June 22, 1972, a reporter covering the upcoming national election asked the President to name his all-time favorite ballplayers. Nixon's long list of great players inspired the reporter to make a unique request: the first ever presidential All-Star team. With the assistance of his son-in-law David Eisenhower, Nixon put together the team and it appeared in national newspapers on June 30, 1972. American baseball legend Joe DiMaggio is widely considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time, and is best known for his 56-game hitting streak (May 15 - July 16, 1941), a record that still stands. DiMaggio was one of the first sportsmen recognized in the Presidential Sports Award Program, created by Richard Nixon in 1972. [Attributes: First Editio … [Click Below for Full Description]

Assembled by David Brenstuhl and family
Lancaster and Akron Ohio, 1970. Unbound. Very good. This archive contains approximately 140 photographs ranging in size from 2.25" x 2.75" to 8" x 10". Most are b/w (about 30) and color (about 110) 3.5" square or 3.5" x 5" snapshots. The others are all b/w and include official "photo finish" shots and professional publicity photos. Also included is a letter with a xerographic image of another racer and his car. All are in nice shape; about a half dozen of the snapshots have faded and a similar number are blurred. A few of the images have notations in the margins or on their reverse. A few also have insignificant paper remnants on their reverse, presumably from a scrapbook. Based on some photo dates, Brenstuhl entered Soap Box Derby competitions in 1969 and 1970 when he twice won the city championship for Lancaster which qualified him to compete in the national All-American Soap Box Derby held annually in July at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio. These photographs capture David's and his family's involvement in the competition process, various cars, travel, race starts and finishes, cars speeding down derby hills, spectators at local events and packing the grandstands at Derby Downs, celebrity involvement, ceremonies and award dinners, trophy presentations, etc. including: * Two color snapshots from a party showing the 1969 national champion, Steve Souter of Texas, and the first national champion from 1934, Robert Turner, * An inscribed xerographic image of the 1970 national champion, Sam Gupton, and his racer sent by Gupton following the championship and complimentin … [Click Below for Full Description]
