Crow. From the Life and Songs of The Crow.

London: Faber and Faber, 1970. FIRST EDITION, with ORIGINAL ARTWORK. Slim octavo, pp. 80. Bound in publisher's black cloth, in a pictorial jacket designed by the illustrator. Original watercolour painting by Baskin to the flyleaf - a large, bold, colour depiction of the crow. Book is in fine condition, dustjacket in like; jacket is also signed by the illustrator. Born in 1922, Leonard Baskin was an accomplished sculptor, book illustrator, printmaker, graphic artist, writer and teacher. He was commissioned to produce a bronze statue of a seated figure for the Holocaust Memorial in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which was erected in 1994. Baskin lived in the U.S. for most of his life, but spent nine years in Devon at Lurley Manor, close to his friend Ted Hughes - for whom he illustrated Crow. Hughes' collection fits into the children's genre rather loosely; his poetry is certainly accessible to all ages, but explores dark and macabre themes that are, at times, fairly horrifying. A dazzling volume.

5 original renderings of the construction of the World Trade Center

New York and New Jersey 1970 - Watercolor paintings on paper, each about 13 x 20 inches. Nicholas Solovioff (1927-1994) was the artist in residence of the Port of New York Authority. He made the most of this opportunity and completed a series of paintings of the early construction of the World Trade Center towers. No doubt these drawings of the early stages of construction -- all from Feb. 1970, were commissioned by the Port Authority and are of unquestionable documentary and artistic value to a legendary architectural project. One depicts the exposed girders of one of the towers under construction, and another appears to depict the antenna. The other three document an unusual obstacle faced by the construction crew in February of 1970. A tugboat strike halted the usual system of bringing girders to the site by boat. After efforts to use helicopters failed, the massive girders were trucked through the Lincoln Tunnel. Matted, with minor wear, numbered on verso Watercolor paintings on paper, each about 13 x 20 inches

Gilbert and George in ÔUNDERNEATH THE ARCHESÕ. The most beautiful sculpture in the whole world 1968-1970.

Art for All (the artists)., London. 1970 - Gilbert & George established their reputation in 1969 with The Singing Sculpture - standing together on a table, they danced and sang the Flanagan and Allen standard Underneath the Arches Ð a song in which two tramps describe the pleasures of sleeping rough. It was a telling choice, harking back to prewar England and traditions of vaudeville, while also identifying with the fringes of society. Gilbert & George were invited to present The Singing Sculpture all over the world, sometimes for eight hours at a stretch. This copy of the rare printed announcement was apparently used for a presentation of the work in Germany (1970/71), inscribed in red pen by the artists, ÒArt love to Germany from George & GilbertÓ. Folded sheet with a reproduction of a drawn self-portrait of the artists, and a reprinted verse from ÔUnderneath the ArchesÕ.

The Beatles: "Let it Be" (Original poster for the 1970 film documentary)

London and New York: Apple Corps / United Artists, 1970. Original one sheet poster for the 1970 film documentary. Some have claimed that "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster" (2004) was the first documentary to inadvertently document the deconstruction of a rock band, but Michael Lindsay-Hogg beat them to it by 34 years. "Let It Be," originally conceived as a documentary that would accompany a performance broadcast on television, morphed into a feature film when the broadcast idea was dropped. The director had no idea going into the project how much conflict had developed within the band, and unwittingly wound up putting onto celluloid a picture of what was the most acrimonious and confused time in the band's storied 6-year career. A fascinating document that became the fascinating final project to be released by The Beatles. 27 x 41 inches (105 x 89 cm). Folded, Near Fine.
