        Ford concept

      c. 1970. Gouache on composition board. Signed, "Dom Pacitti". 16 1/2 x 24 3/4 inches (visible). Framed. 25 1/4 x 31 1/4 inches. Striking controntation with an early 70's Ford grille This is a dramatic, confrontational drawing by Dom Pacitti of the type of hidden headlight grille popular in the early 70's. Though the idea of concealing headlights had been around since before World War II, it only became popular in the mid-60's at the same time intricate chrome grilles were catching on. Here against a dark brown background, the proposed Ford (XL?) swerves to avoid hitting the viewer (seated on a curb) showing its bright new bumper, grille and right front fender as well as a glimpse of the right side. The diagonal positioning allows the artist to maximize the dramatic display of beauty and agility.

        Pintails on a Hazy Day

London: Published by Arthur Ackermann & Son Ltd., 3, Old Bond Street, March 1970. Coloured offset-lithograph. Signed in pencil by the artist (lower right just beneath the image). Pencil and watercolour remarque of a pintail in lower left corner. In pristine condition. Image size: 14 x 21 inches. Light wood frame with blue wash-line mount. Frame size: 22 11/16 x 29 5/8 x 7/8 inches. A lovely signed and remarqued print from the one of the greatest bird artists of the 20th-century. A tranquil scene of pintails in mid-flight over a still pool. Sir Peter Scott was best known in later life for his work as a founding member and chairman of the World Wildlife Fund, but in "the period before and after the war, Peter Scott became undoubtedly the most popular artist in the United Kingdom" (J. Ford Ackermann 1783-1983 1983, p.202). The son of the Antarctic explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Sir Peter initially turned to wildlife art as an extension of his early love of wildfowling. He traveled the world, hunting and painting rare birds. He held his first one-man exhibition at Ackermann's in 1933, and from the late 1930s onwards became increasingly concerned with conserving wildfowl rather than hunting them. From 1946, in tandem with a series of highly successful shows at Ackermann's, Sir Peter founded and ran the Wildfowl Trust which has gone on to become a major force in the conservation of endangered duck and geese. From 1935 up until about 1983 Ackermann's published a limited number of colour prints of Sir Peter's work. Many of the original oils are in major private and public collections, and these prints, signed by the artist himself, offer a rare chance to own an image by one of the greatest bird artists of the 20th century.

        TYPED LETTER SIGNED (TLS)

n.p., 16 May 1970. Letter. Some wrinkling and creasing, still Very Good. Superb content. SIGNED and dated as "10," his intimate signature. To Danny [Stirrup], an old friend in Key West who had worked on Williams's house there, in full: "I waited as long as I could for some word from you about the erection of the Jane Bowles Summer-house which I want to sit and meditate for a while in before I leave for my summer abroad from which I may not return like a swallow of Capistrano. And so last night, not having up till that point, heard any word from you, asked Fontis to put it up with a good carpenter and a very simple little Gothic, not Byzantine, design that we'd drawn at a bar-table. He will start on it Monday and the top estimate is $1700. which is below the amount that an experienced architect would or should accept but all I wish to expend on the project as it will serve only as room for bridge- playing and for solitary reflecting upon the madness of the world. I have not talked to anyone but you about the cause of the interruption in our long friendship. But now I will. It can be said very simply. I returned from the mad-house hungry for a tiny bit of affection, tenderness, sympathy, understanding, none of which were offered and they were as necessary to me as the air I breathe. Then, being a tiger, I turned, for tigers will turn on mortal adversaries at last. That's it and that's all. Forget me, Don Quixote, if you choose to, or remember me as a loyal and patient friend to those who are friends and I still believe you are one. The best of luck with your important project in Palm Beach. Love, 10.

        "Dodge Sportflite" Concept Art

      c. 1970. Watercolor and pastel on illustration board. Signed "William A. Moore". 17 x 23 3/4 inches. Framed. 25 1/4 x 31 1/4 inches. Intriguing concpetual drawing for an unusual pickup truck Three views of a rather dazzling vision of a pickup truck, and though the "Dodge Sportflite" was never produced, the idea of making more luxurious and innovative pickup trucks has definitely caught fire since the time of this handsome drawing. This design brings the driver over the engine, as in many heavier trucks, giving the driver greater command of the road, especially for town and city driving. The styling of the cab and cargo bed is anything but mundane with lines, vents, a black ribbon around the cab, and two large additional brake lights that add a notes of elegance and creativity to the overall effect. "In 1956, William Moore won the General Motors Fisher Body Craftsmen' Guild National Exhibition for his car design. In 1968, he accepted a position as Head of Design for Lear in Reno, Nevada. William Moore's art has been placed in...the Smithsonian and the Favell Museum of Art and Artifacts..." (The Museum of Automotive Art and Design website).         Live At Sussex University, 1970

Brighton; Coldstream. c.1970, 1970. A set of photos consisting four near mint black and white period print photographs (on three sheets) of The Who live in concert at Sussex University, 19th October 1970, signed by the band in blue ink; one image of Pete Townsend leaping, signed by the guitarist, one close-up of Roger Daltrey, additionally inscribed 'Cheers' by the singer, and one sheet of photographic paper with two identical shots (one reversed) twice signed by bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon (i.e. each signing each picture). With photographer's stamp (John Coldstream) to rear. A superb, uniform set of images from the classic 'Who's Next' era, each photo approx 10 x 8 inches in uniform common mounts, ready for framing. The Who rose to rock and roll stardom initially as part of the "British Invasion" and then became the loudest band on the planet; their live performances were infamous and for most of the 1970s they were listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the loudest rock band in the world, measured at 130 decibels, achieved by John Entwistle's resonant low end and Pete Townsend's trademark windmill power chords. As a result of their rock'n'roll lifestyles the band has sadly suffered two drug-related casualties; the outrageous drummer Keith Moon died in 1978, and virtuoso bass guitarist John Entwistle died in 2002. Provenance; Ex-Bonhams Rock n Roll Memorabilia, no.11808, lot 681 (pt.).

[Photographie originale] Deux portraits photographiques "inconnus" et "ratés" d'Ezra Pound à Venise, circa 1970, par Jean-Michel Folon

1970. Photo. Illus. by Jean-Michel Folon. Très bon. Aucune reliure.
