MARDI GRAS IN NEW ORLEANS: A Photographic Essay Foreword by David Mynders Symthe

Privately Printed: Self-published. 1970. First edition, first printing. Original photo-illustrated stapled wrappers. An excellent near fine copy with only light rubbing to the binding extremities. Clean and bright throughout. A superb and little known photographic work capturing the crowds at the New Orleans Mardi Gras. The photographer ignores the floats and parade, instead aiming his lens at the spectators, capturing the real spirit of this festival as well as providing a remarkable, if not unique documentation of the inhabitants of one of America's most glittering cities. Unaccountably scarce. OCLC records just one copy of this edition at the University of New Orleans and a copy of a 1972 edition at Michigan State University Libraries.         daily mirror. variante der als "quadratbuch" bei de jong in hilversum 1961 erschienenen mappe.

Stuttgart. London. Reykjavik. Edition Hansjörg Mayer. 1970.. Auflage 1000 Exemplare. 23 x 17 cm. [472] S. OKarton in überarbeiteter Wellpappen-Manschette. [Vgl. Dobke. Roth - Bücher + Editionen S. 159 mit Abbildungen].

Sir Daniel Day Lewis SchoolWork Folder From Bedales School

Hard Cover, Book Condition: Very Good, Dust Jacket Condition: No JacketSize: 4to - over 9?" - 12" tall, This is a rather unique and interesting item available from this recently Knighted treble winning oscar Actor. It's a large folder of Daniel Day Lewis (Treble oscar winning actor) schoolwork folder from when he was at Bedales school in the 1970's.There is a large English Folder with Daniel's work on Checkhov: The Seagull,Joyce Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man,works on Pinter,TS Eliot and Samuel Beckett to name a few.Written in his own hand using green, red, black and blue pens. These essays were from 1974 through to 1975.There are in addition several black and white A4 size photographs of Daniel Day Lewis in Evening Dinner suit etc. There is also included a BBC Playscript from 1980 called ''Table Talk'' by Peter Jackson in which Daniel played the role of the Radio Announcer. The large folder contains work on American History,Mathematical writings,Geography etc some in his own hand with notes and some typed written studies. In all I should say without counting that there is in excess of 300 or more pages of his own work, notes, essays etc housed in a grey and rather bulging archer lever file which has been clearly written on by Day Lewis several times along spine and with humourous doodlings to the inside and outer covers. Also just noticed at the rear of the file are some French Studies as well. The folder was acquired from the private working library of Cecil Day Lewis from his House in Greenwich and we have quite a number of books that belonged to Cecil Day Lewis which bear his name still available.Cecil Day-Lewis CBE was an Irish poet and the Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom from 1968 until his death in 1972. He also wrote mystery stories under the pseudonym of Nicholas Blake. He is of course the father of the wonderfully talented and double oscar winning Actor Daniel Day-Lewis and documentary filmmaker and television chef Tamasin Day-Lewis.So there we have it,a genuine and very comprehensive folder of school work by Daniel Day-Lewis.A rare collector's item. The folder measures approx 12'' by 12'' and is a heavy item weighing almost 3.8 kg.No overseas postage available on this item.

        One Hundred Years of Solitude

New York: Harper and Row, 1970 Translated from the original Spanish by Gregory Rabassa. First American edition, second issue dust jacket with "!" corrected to ".". Publisher's dark green cloth, lettered in gilt; in the pictorial dust jacket designed by Guy Fleming. A bright copy, with some light wear to the spine ends, else fine; unclipped dust jacket, with some light rubbing to the extremities, faint toning to the spine, small nicks to the spine head, else fine. Overall, a near fine and fresh copy. Widely considered the author's masterpiece, One Hundred Years of Solitude is the English translation of Cien Años de Soledad, first published in Buenos Aires in 1967 by Editorial Sudamericana. The 1982 Pulitzer Prize winning novel tells the story of five generations of the Buendía family, beginning with patriarch José Arcadio Buendía and his wife Ursula Iguarán. Through the family history, García Márquez relates the history of the fictional Macondo people, founded by the Buandías. Despite their importance to Macondo, García Márquez makes clear that the Buandías interpret their land like they interpret themselves - in their own unique and esoteric way. Regardless, the Macondo represent the author's home country, Colombia, and the Buandías, his countrymen. As the dust jacket explains, "In the noble, ridiculous, beautiful, and tawdry story of the Buendía family one sees all mankind, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo one sees all of Latin America." An important example of the magical realism style and the literary Latin American Boom of the 1960s and 1970s, One Hundred Years of Solitude has been translated into over twenty languages.. Illus. by Fleming, Guy. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Dust Jacket Included.

        The Hunting of Wilberforce Pike

London: Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1970. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. A.Wainwright. Illustrated by A.Wainwright and probably the scarcest of the books associated with him. The book is flawless apart from the front paste-down (very minor spotting) and the f.e.p. (a previous owner has rubbed out a pencilled inscription - just visible in the image: also there is a small, brown stain in the top right hand corner.) But for these flaws the book could accurately be described as F+. The d/w has a 5mm closed tear in the centre of the bottom, front edge with an accompanying shallow crease connecting the end of the tear to the bottom edge. There is very minor chipping at the corners and a little faint spotting on the inside. There are some grubby marks but, on the whole, it is a very bright d/w. It is protected by a non-adhesive cover. All the flaws, apart from the minor spotting under the d/w flaps, can be clearly seen on the images. This is a review copy and the review slip is included.

1970. SHAHN, Ben. Hallelujah. Introduction by Bernarda Bryson Shahn. With 4 colour lithographs by Ben Shahn illustrating the 150th Psalm. Oblong folio, 415 x 440 mm, bound in original cloth, gilt, in a matching folding case. New York: Kennedy Graphics, [1970]. |~||~||~||~||~| One of 240 numbered copies. Signed by Shahn in the final lithographic stone at end under the Hebrew letters for the word "Hallelujah." Shahn's drawings for Hallelujah were completed just before his death, and represent his last completed work. They were originally intended to be a large scale mural for a Jewish community center in Rockville, Maryland. Based on the last majestic Psalm of the Old Testament, Shahn's "Hallelujah Suite" celebrates the music, musicians and musical instruments that stand out in the Psalm. Calligraphic Hebrew text is interworked into the Shahn lithograph images, which were skillfully printed by Mourlot Graphics Ltd. in yellow and black. The book remains a fitting culmination to Shahn's lifetime friendship with Mourlot, who also supplied an introductory letter. The text was printed by the Spiral Press. Fine copy. Prescott, The Complete Graphic Works of Ben Shahn 202-215.
