        The Blessing Way (w/signed bookplate)

New York, NY, U.S.A.: Harper & Row, 1970. The true first edition (stated on copyright page with the number line on the second to last page ending in the number "1") of the author's first book and the first Joe Leaphorn. Dampstaining to back of bottom of dustwrapper (not evident from front). Dustwrapper shows one 1/3" closed tear to top of front panel and scuffing to top of spine. Overall, the book and purple dustwrapper show as "tight and clean" (especially in the mylar protector). Might be a printer's copy, because it has technical information on type-setting written on the ffep. in pencil. A very respectable copy at a "respectable" price. Laid in is a bookplate inscribed to me by the late Mr. Hillerman. . Signed Bookplate. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/VG+.

George Harrison at a press conference for "All Things Must Pass," circa 1970 (Original oversize press photograph)

Paris: Gök in Sipahio lu, 1970. Vintage single weight borderless black-and-white press photograph of George Harrison at press conference for the release of his legendary 1970 album, "All Things Must Pass." Shot by noted Turkish photographer Gök in Sipahio lu, with his Parisian press stamp on the verso. Without question, 1970 was Harrison's shining hour as a solo artist. Less than a year later, he would trim his hair from the length show here (and on the album's cover) to a more reasonable look and helm the Concert for Bangladesh in New York City, featuring Eric Clapton, Badfinger, and other musicians who populated his 1970 album. This photograph was taken by Sipahio lu when he was still working as an independent frontline photojournalist, routinely contributing to Black Star and Gamma. In 1973 he would found the Sipa Press, an agency that would represent the world's best photographers for the next 30 years. 7.75 x 12 inches (19.5 x 30.5 cm). Very Good plus, with some light creasing at the corners.

        Tèchne. N. 5/6 (copertina gialla)

Tèchne edizioni, Firenze 1970 - Tèchne. N. 5/6 (copertina gialla). Numerosi interventi originali firmati.         Off Our Backs: A Woman's News-Journal - Substantial Run of 52 Issues

Washington DC: Off Our Backs, 1970-1978. First Edition. Large collection of one of the longest-running feminist newspapers, co-founded by Marilyn Webb, which only ceased publication in 2008. Published by the oob collective, which originally consisted of Webb, Marlene Wicks, Heidi and Nan Steffens, Norma Lesser, and Nancy Ferro, OOB was produced as a general newssource, often with themed issues, with a radical feminist slant. Among the most notable columns present here is "Survival," a nonsexist how-to guide, covering spermicides, nutrition, fertility, and home breast exams. Despite the emphasis on the collective, there was some unrest within OOB beginning as early as 1971, when the lesbian element of the collective left to found their own periodical, Furies. See Kathleen L. Endres & Therese L. Lueck's Women's Periodicals in the United States: Social and Political Issues (1996), pp. [265]-273. 52 tabloid issues (43cm.), with publication sequence as follows: Vol. 1, nos. 5-8 & 11-24; Vol. 2, nos. 2-10; Vol. 3, nos. 1-12; Vol. IV, nos. 1-6, 9-12; Vol. V, no. 5; Vol. VI, no. 3; Vol. 7, no. 2; Vol. 8, no. 4.         Future Shock

NY: Random House. (1970). Two volumes: both a review copy of the first edition and the uncorrected proof copy of Toffler's massively successful book naming the disorientation caused by the accelerated pace of cultural and technological change. The first edition has some mild edge-foxing and is near fine in a very near fine dust jacket with a shallow crease to the rear panel. Folded in fourths and laid in are three different 2-legal-page press releases: "Future Shock May Be Key Disease of Tomorrow," "Movement for 'Responsible Technology' Needed to Combat Future Shock," and "To Prevent Future Shock, Schools Must Teach About Tomorrow." From the first: "When people complain they can't cope, what is it they can't cope with?" From the second: "... technological questions can no longer be answered in technological terms alone. 'They are political questions...we need a machinery for screening machines.'" From the third: "Today events are moving so swiftly that only another [post-John Dewey] radical shift in our 'time-bias' can save our children. The schools must develop future-consciousness." Together with the uncorrected proof copy, which is a tall, fragile, pad-bound proof, the text block of which seems perfectly fine, but the covers and spine have some staining and insect damage, and the covers are likely to detach in time. Because of the fragile nature of the proof, only a cursory search was made for textual variations from the published version, which revealed only that the Acknowledgements were moved from front to rear (and the spelling changed) and a change was made to the book's dedication. Uncommon advance states of one of the bestselling books of its time, and a book whose title became a part of the vernacular. First Edition. Hardcover.
