LEVY, Bill [Editor]
London: International Times (IT), 1968. This issue is most notable for its cover: as the editor explains, 'Our front page is a found object. We found it flyposted to the building that houses our offices...' In fact, the cover is actually a translation of an original Situationist poster produced in October 1967 to announce the publication of "Internationale Situationniste" #11. This cover is probably the single most iconic English-language Situationist artifact. Words by Raoul Vaneigem, graphics by Andre Bertram. Other contents include: Allen Ginsberg, "The Maharishi and Me"; "Three Views on the Anti-University" by Harold Norse, Alexander Trocchi and Robert Tasher; "Family Dog" and "Middle Earth" advertisements; J.G. Ballard's poem "Why I Want to F..k Ronald Reagan"; international reports from Sweden, Manila, New York and Germany; centrespread "IT Supports Dick Gregory for President of the United States"; a page of letters about censorship from Tom Maschler, John Calder, Marion Boyars and Charles Marowitz; John Peel's column, "The Perfumed Garden"; and a short interview with Captain Beefheart. Folio, newspaper, 460 mm x 300 mm, 16 pages, illustrated throughout, cover fold has undergone wear with some small missing fragments, early tape repair, a tear at the spine, a good copy.

levy, d a
Cleveland: Ghost Press, 1968. First edition. Thick 4to., stab-stapled and tape bound into wraps (cover illustrated with a photograph of levy by rjs, back cover illustrated after a drawing by Wally Depew). Mimeographed, with six silkscreens by rjs tipped on. One of 1000 copies. With a postcard ALS concerning levy's suicide laid in. A mammoth collection of levy's work, here collected and edited by rjs and published to raise money for levy's legal defense fund during his ongoing battle with the censors; levy would commit suicide later in the year of publication. This copy significant for the inclusion of a mimeographed postcard laid in, illustrated with a drawing of three pigs entitled "We Like It Here!" signed "in plate" by Ferguson - likely Steve Ferguson. The verso contains a brief handwritten note addressed to "Steve" which states "d. a. shot himself with a 22 caliber rifle thru the forehead. Suicide. Continuation later." the note is signed "rj", likely by rjs. rjs was the editor of this fundraiser for levy, and, along with Steve Ferguson, discovered levy's body after his suicide. We don't know who the "Steve" of the inscription is, but this copy came to light in Canada.

Fabius von Gugel
Heinz Moos, 1968. September 1910 in Worms 28. Artist Book - Ruscha, Edward and Billy Al Bengston
Privately Printed, Los Angeles, 1968. First and only edition of this collaboration between Ruscha and his friend Billy Al Bengston. Privately printed artist book. Limited to one thousand copies. Includes both of the artist's business cards stapled to the inside rear cover. A good copy with some small creasing to front cover and age wear to the leather ties. The thick leather shoe-strings used to bind the pages together have dried out and need to be repaired. Sold in as-is condition. NOTE: This copy has the special date stamp of Sep 29, 1968 which is the date of the Frank Gehry party in which the book was introduced to a select number of friends and fans and where copies were personalized by the artists (later copies were simply signed). INSCRIBED TO FELLOW ARTIST JAMES TURRELL (AND SPOUSE). Ruscha has misspelled Turrell's name (as Terrell), but the provenance of this copy is impeccable. It is also signed by Ed in an early hand. His later signature changed significantly as he became more famous and started signing more and more copies of his books. Inscribed copies are much less common than signed ones, and copies inscribed to fellow artists are rare in the trade. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

LENNON, John
(Harmondsworth), Penguin Books, (1968). Original wrappers. 160 pp. Illustrated by John Lennon. Reprint. Spine and upper cover partly discolored. Upper cover partly detached. With an original signed drawing by John Lennon and the signature of Yoko Ono, on a card stapled onto the halftitle. It shows the well-known caricature of a bespectacled Lennon and smiling Ono.Drawing and signatures were obtained on March 28, 1969 by eleven-year-old Lorenzo Ledel, who accompanied his mother, Dutch journalist Emmy Ledel-Huf (1922-1992), to her interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono during their legendary Bed-In for Peace in the Presidential Suite at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel. Ledel-Huf's extensive interview was published in the local newspaper Het Parool (original newspaper clipping inserted in the book). The young Ledel, sitting on the edge of the bed of the world famous artists, obtained a total of ten signed cards. Shortly after, he sold these to his classmates for one guilder each. This is the last surviving card and the only card with a drawing. The large original drawing that Lennon gave to the boy on the same occasion has been lost over time. A very appealing relic, reminiscent of a great happening. [Attributes: Signed Copy; Soft Cover]
