Larry McMurtry
Austin: The Encino Press, 1968. First Edition, Second Printing, in First State dustjacket. Mustard-colored cloth boards with title card on spine. 177pp. Conforms to all points: no edition statement or letter on copyright page, "skycrapers" misprint corrected on line 12 of page 105, dust jacket showing no price and with the "wtih" and "head" misprints in the fifth and final paragraphs, respectively. Dust jacket is clean and crisp with just some light rubbing to the top edges, but no chips, tears, or marks. Jacket also shows some light rubbing to top corner of front flap and a thin crease down spine, but is very nice overall. Boards are clean and square with some very light scuffs. Previous owner's brief gift inscription on front free endpaper, obscured by flap. Thin crease showing down the very edge of page 105/106. Binding is solid and pages are unmarked. The author's first collection of non-fiction, the actual First Printing was apparently so plagued with typesetting errors that almost all copies were recalled and destroyed--various sources claiming that only around 15 or so copies survived--making this edition, (apart from the signed/slipcased edition, itself limited to 250 copies), as near a First Edition as most are likely ever to find, and of which this copy is a quite attractive example. BRADBURY, Ray
Universal City, CA: Pegasus Productions Co., Inc., 26 September 1968. 4to. 33 pp. Shooting script, clean and unmarked. Original printed front wrapper [no rear wrapper] closed with two contemporary brass clasps. Front wrapper with upper corner torn and repaired with tape. Item #400739 SIDNEY CARROLL'S COPY, signed by him on the front wrapper and the first text leaf, and annotated in ink "Complete / Revised... 10/23/58." The series was written by Ray Bradbury and Sidney Carroll and directed by Don Taylor, which aired originally on Saturday December 20th 1958 at 9pm on NBC. It was never repeated in the United States. When ABC aired summer reruns of Steve Canyon in 1960, for some reason this one (and 13 others) never got shown. Considered a lost series for nearly 50 years, 'Steve Canyon' was made with the cooperation of the US Air Force and based on Milton Caniff's famous newspaper adventure comic strip of the same name that ran nonstop from 1947 to 1988. The Milton Caniff Estate released all 34 episodes on DVD in 2008-2013. A scarce survival from the studio, owned by famed scriptwriter Sidney Carroll.

Harper & Row, 1968. Stated: "First Edition" with "H-S" code to copyright page. Book Condition: Very Good-. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine in archival protective cover. This is an ex-library copy with a library stamp to the copyright page. There is just the ever so slightest remnant of glue/paper to the front endpaper and tape shadow on the boards. This is a First Issue Jacket with the Jerry Bauer photo to the rear and the $5.95 price and "0968" code to the front flap and is in excellent condition: bright, attractive, and whole with no signs of ex-lib status, just 2 very short (1/8") closed tears at top of spine. Translated from the Spanish by J. S. Bernstein. A novella and eight short stories. From the dust jacket- "The title story is a masterly short novel about life in a decaying tropical town in Colombia-Macondo by name- and the cycles of hope and despair, tragedy and comedy that grip the inhabitants with the regularity of the rains and the heat that dominate their lives." The title story was the basis for a 1999 film starring Salma Hayek. The Nobel Prize-winning author's first book published in the United States. SIGNED and inscribed ("de su amigo") in 2005 by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Loosely laid in is the author's return address cut out from the book mailer. Garcia Marquez, Gabriel
Harper & Row, Publishers, New York, 1968. First edition of the Nobel Prize-winning author's first book to be translated into English. Octavo, original cloth. Boldly signed by Gabriel Garcia Marquez on the half-title page. Fine in a fine price-clipped dust jacket. Jacket design by Guy Fleming. Rear panel photograph by Jerry Bauer. Translated from the Spanish by J.S. Bernstein. A superior example, uncommon signed. No One Write to the Colonel was originally published in 1961. The novel is considered by some to be within the realm of magic realism, and it some sense this is true. It contains with its plot magical events. Nonetheless, the novel deviates from the boundaries of this informal genre. The main characters are unnamed, and this portrays a sense of insignificance. Political and financial instability are key, and they corruption of local and national officials build onto the natural angst of the novel. Used with wear and tear. Heinemann 1968. Signing events were rare in those days, not like today. These early signed copies were usually to friends and family, before they were even released into book stores. You can tell by the style of signature and handwriting what are early signed copies. This was however a much later signed book and unique for being line-signed Aside from its fine dust jacket, that it is signed with a line for the book makes it unique. We had only two of these signed like this. I borrowed line-signing from other authors events as a means to add more writing, ensuring it wasn't a forgery signature. Sadly forgers will arise whenever money can be made from a famous person's signature. It very much personalizes the book without making unique to one person only. I discussed with Wilbur choices of lines and he personally selected this one. I preferred another, but he wouldn't tell me why this one is special to the book? However, Niso objected to line-signing and wouldn't allow him to sign anymore after my selections. These were a personal favor to me. I'm not aware he's ever done this for any other fan since making these line-signed books one of a kind. We are selling a special Wilbur collection on behalf of a client. Wilbur will be releasing his memoirs this Spring so now it the time to invest again. From early 2000's until 2011 we were the world's largest dealer of Wilbur's early and signed books. It was our privilege to meet him privately, including at his home, to have him verify signed books and to line-sign books for me only (Niso would not allow the pr … [Click Below for Full Description]

But only for the honor of it, which was all I asked." Merker printed the limited edition (including the present copy) that was to be published by New Directions and Faber & Faber. CHAR René
[Click Below for Full Description]
