ZAVRIAN, Suzanne and Joachim Neugroschel (editors)
(New York): Extensions, (1968-1974). First Edition. Wraps. Very good. 8vos. Saddle-stapled wraps. Offset printing. Near fine or better overall. Bright, clean, and sharp. 96pp. each. Taking their name from Marshall McLuhan's 1964 UNDERSTANDING MEDIA, Zavrion and Neugroschel's EXTENSIONS bridged the worlds of art of poetry in ways not unlike 0 TO 9. As Gwen Allen wrote, "They were interested in how the magazine itself was a medium capable of extending language into other realms," a fact evident from the very first issue, which printed a version of Dan Graham's "Schema," four texts by Vito Acconci, and graffiti poems written by students in Paris during May 1968. Other contributors throughout the run include Arakawa, Mary Beach, Max Bense, André du Bouchet, André Breton, René Char, Jean Daive, Diane Di Prima, Jean Dubuffet, Charles Henri Ford, Jim Fulkerson, Dick Gallup, Jochen Gerz, Madeline Gins, Carter Ratcliff, Georg Trakl, Oswald Wiener, Miodrag Pavlovic, Erling Salomsen, Tony Towle, Emmett Williams, and many more. The complete run, eight numbers in seven volumes. [Allen, ARTISTS' MAGAZINES, p. 259].

[Vogel, Amos] Osborn, Robert (artist)
N.p. Two-color ink drawing of Charlie Chaplin in silhouette, titled "Chaplin a' la Vigo's 'Zero de conduit'" by noted radical caricaturist Robert Osborn. The title makes reference to French filmmaker Jean Vigo's 1933 film, "Zero de conduite," and the drawing, unpublished, was a gift to Osborn's friend Amos Vogel, inscribed at the bottom left corner, "For Amos / 68." Accompanying the drawing is a 3-page note from Osborn to Vogel, executed in calligraphic style black ink, reading: "dear Amos / this, in gratitude for all you do for us. It is vastly appreciated. / Bob Osborn / 2 / P.S. / As I told you you do the whole cultural community a GREAT service / Take "Fairy Tale" - I'd never have seen it save for you. / Also that good Sue Salter has been VERY helpful.... & cheerful!" One of Osborn's last great exhibitions was devoted to Chaplin. Reviewing that show in The New York Times, art critic John Russell wrote: "Few people have a nimbler, wittier or more versatile way with pen and pencil than Robert Osborn." Osborn (1904-1994) was nothing if not the artist's artist. The New York Times obituary for him noted that his "sardonic and often savage drawings in books and magazines have arrested readers with their images of bloated power, violence and death. At the same time, he could be wittily ironic about society's pretensions, spoofing subjects like psychiatry, suburbanites and social climbing." He characterized himself as "a drawer" whose figures "seemed to come right out of my subconscious." Garry Trudeau called him "one of the very few masters of illustrative cartooning." Iannone, Dorothy
Divers Press, Köln, 1968. Oblong 4to, 21 leaves of thick plastic, silkscreened in black and white, and bound at left margin with four thick plastic screws. One of a limited edition of 30 numbered and signed examples, this example denoted as an artists' proof and signed by Iannone in orange ink. The first and only edition of Iannone's first artist's book, a massive and unusual book which Iannone began working on in 1967 - the year she began an influential relationship with Diter Rot, and fully embraced an erotic and autobiographical turn in her work. In lists, Iannone documents all of the people she had slept with to that point, decades before the work of Tracey Emin. The striking and frankly erotic drawings are silkscreened directly onto padded vinyl, which, combined with the unsual thickness (over 4" thick at the spine) and heft of the book makes for a tactile experience that serves to make the reading of the book seem in intimate and vaguely illict act. "The year 1967 saw a marked turn as the artist began to fully embrace the erotic nature of her work. Predating Tracey Emin by a few decades, that year Iannone made an artist's book listing all of the men she had slept with - an act of radical transparency even today, and one of unimaginable bravery in the 1960s." - Karen Archey, Air de Paris p. 56. Rare. OCLC locates only a single holding worldwide, the MOMA example. Signature at limitation page smudged, with some offsetting to the same page, else a clean, near fine example. McCarthy, Cormac
Random House, New York, 1968. First edition of the author's second novel. Octavo, original half cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed on the half-title page in a contemporary hand, "For John Markham With Best Wishes Cormac McCarthy." Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Muriel Nasser. A superior example. Outer Dark is a novel at once mythic and starkly evocative, set in an unspecified place in Appalachia sometime around the turn of the century. A woman bears her brother's child, a boy; the brother leaves the baby in the woods and tells her he died of natural causes. Discovering her brother's lie, she sets forth alone to find her son. Both brother and sister wander separately through a countryside being scourged by three terrifying and elusive strangers, headlong toward an eerie, apocalyptic resolution. "A profound parable that ultimately speaks to any society in any time" (Time). [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

Bodoni, Giambattista
Verona: Officina Bodoni, 1968. Officina Bodoni. 4to. hand-colored orange-brown Linson boards, paper spine label, slipcase. xlvi, 374 pages. Limited to 206 copies of which this is one of the 80 numbered copies containing an English translation of the introduction (xx pages) loosely inserted as a pamphlet. (Schmoller no.156). Reprint of the original edition of 1788 which was done in only 50 copies (Bigmore & Wyman I,68 who state that 100 copies were printed) but containing an introduction by Mardersteig and a frontispiece portrait of Bodoni. The facsimile of the 155 type faces shown was made by printing from line etchings on dampened paper with weak lettering corrected by hand before printing. One of the faces (Trieste) was omitted from the original edition but was included in this edition made up from a proof. Mardersteig says that this specimen book "is of far greater interest to the historian, expert, and bibliophile (than the 1818 specimen book), because it shows how Bodoni's art as a puncutter derived from Pierre-Simon Fournier but soon matured in a typographic style of his own." Binding: softcover8.5 x 10.5 inchesoriginal illustrated paper wrappersPublished by Moderna Muséet, Sweden, in 1968 as an exhibition catalogue for the show "Andy Warhol" at the Moderna Muséet in Stockholm, February - March, 1968. Warhol's famous 'Stockholm Catalogue', published on the occasion of his first European solo show at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, February - March, 1968. The concept for the catalogue was developed by Kasper König, who commissioned Factory stalwart Billy Name, and a teenage Stephen Store, to photograph how Warhol and his coconspirators lived and worked. But it was König's use of the xerox machine to reproduce Warhol's own work that gives this catalogue its signature feel. Godard, Jean-Luc; Jean Renoir, Jean Rouch, Louis Daquin;
N.p. Vintage borderless oversize photograph from a 1968 press conference in support of Cinematheque Francaise founder Henri Langloius, featuring Jean-Luc Godard, Jean Renoir, Jean Rouch, and Louis Daquin. Photographer's rubber stamp and light black ink holograph notations on the verso. This photograph originates from a meeting held in support of Henri Langlois, founder and director of the influential Cinematheque Francaise. In 1968 French culture minister Andre Malraux attempted to stop funding for the Cinematheque, which would ostensibly have ousted Langlois, thus igniting a series of heated protests. Renowned directors and film fans worldwide expressed their support of the institution including Renoir, Godard, Rouch, and Daquin as seen here. Though compromises were made, the show of support forced Malraux reinstate Langlois. 9.25 x 11.75 inches (25 x 30 cm). Near Fine.

Charles Bukowski
Los Angeles: In good condition. Some discoloration on front cover (see photos). Small tear in back cover at spine (see photos). Inscribed by Bukowski. First edition. Tear in back cover at spine (see photos). Includes a delicious, profanity-laced inscription from Bukowski to a young poet. Second state of the paperback issue where the misspelling on the front cover has been corrected with a white label. According to Krumhansl there were only 18 copies of the 1st state with the misprint and 747 copies of the Second state. This is the Bukowski collection that almost wasn't, as the original stack of poems that were to become At Terror Street and Agony Way were rumored to have been thrown away by Bukowski's friend John Thomas. However, Bukowski had made a tape recording of the poems, and it was possible to transcribe them. It was printed by John Martin at Black Sparrow Press in 1968. This was the longest collection of poetry that Bukowski had published to date, and some said the poetry read as though Bukowski just needed a break. Inscription reads: To Jimmy Gilner You're 12 areal sweet cat +great poet too.I hope some ofthis poetry-shit(enclosed)happens to run onthru yoursoul-veins. sure,Charles Bukowski8-3-'68. The book without the original jacket can be found in prices ranging from $400 to $800 (depending on condition), yet examples of this book in a similar condition original dust jacket sells for $9000 and up. Warhol's famous 'Stockholm Catalogue', published on the occasion of his first European solo show at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, February - March, 1968. The concept for the catalogue was developed by Kasper König, who commissioned Factory stalwart Billy Name, and a teenage Stephen Store, to photograph how Warhol and his coconspirators lived and worked.
