A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami [Prabhupada]; Allen Ginsberg, Denise Levertov, Thomas Merton (intro)
The Macmillan Company, New York 1968 - Small Octavo. Hardcover First Printing, First Edition. 1968. Ex-Library with the usual treatments. Purple dustjacket with altered Vishvarupa image, intact and lightly crinkled at extremities and with library sticker on spine. 318pp. Bound in original blue cloth with gilt lettering. Extremities rubbed and sunned, tape residue from previous bro-dart cover. Binding strong, pages clean with fingerprints on edges. This is the true first edition, the "Macmillan Miracle" that introduced the Hare Krishna movement to a wide Western readership. Prabhupada's followers were attempting to get his translation published in America without success until encountering Macmillan, who needed a new Bhagavad-Gita translation for a series of world scriptures they were publishing. The result is a heavily abridged version with no illustrations (even the dustjacket image was edited to remove extra arms and legs), with appreciations from Ginsberg and Merton to give it credence. This edition is still hotly debated within ISKCON regarding the persons involved in the original editing and abridgement. Purple dustjacket with altered Vishvarupa image, intact and lightly crinkled at extremities and with library sticker on spine. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Kronenberg's Nederlandsche Bibliographie van 1500 tot 1540 (The Hague 1923-1971). The second volume is a continuation, listing relevant books found in nearly fifty other libraries throughout Belgium. The project was completed in 1994 by two further volumes - not offered here - compiled by Geneviève Glorieux and Bart Op de Beeck: III: Aliae Bibliothecae Regni Belgarum, in which the holdings of 93 other Belgian libraries are registered (ISBN 9060044320); and IV: Indices (ISBN 9060044339). ¶ Superior copies in new condition.
