MOSBY, Joann, Larry D. Powell, and Andrew Johnson
New York, Germany, Vietnam, 1968. Very Good. A collection of 27 letters to Joann Mosby from two different men serving overseas during the Vietnam War. The letters are near fine with very good or better envelopes with tears from opening.A small archive of letters sent to Joann Mosby from two men serving during the Vietnam War, PFC Larry Powell and PFC Andrew Johnson. The first group of letters from Lowell are written while he's stationed in Germany with Co. A 97th Signal Battalion as a telephone installer which he says "I sure don't know what they sent me over here for they need a telephone installer like another hole in the head. I have it pretty easy right now." He later said they changed his post to a switchboard operator while he says "isn't that a laugh." Lowell often writes about finding Europe boring and asking for transfers. "I'm thinking about putting in for a transfer. I'll get sent to Vietnam if I do. It can't get any worse than Europe. This place just isn't what's happening!" Although Larry and Joann never met he does sign all his letters "love ya" and some pages include drawings of hearts. In late 1966 Larry was promoted to Sergeant and his letters bear the new title in his address. He is shipped to Vietnam "Nom" in early 1967. In a letter before leaving Europe he writes to Joann saying she probably won't want to talk to him anymore because he'll probably be "shipped home in a pine box." Although he says this he continues to write to Joann from Vietnam. He writes "I am in Nam now. I am at Bien Hoe about 22 miles from Saigon." He continues, "there is a big batt … [Click Below for Full Description]

Features an article on Detective Comics by Bob Beerbohm when he was originally in Fremont, Nebraska - Announces circulation at 101 copies. Lists new subscribers with their addresses and want lists. Wolfe, Tom
New York: Farrar , Straus and Giroux, 1968. First edition. Hardcover. A fine crisp copy in a fine crisp dust jacket, almost like new. Signed by the author and dated Nov 19, 1989. Wolfe, through this book, is credited with exposing, and participating in a new, growing literary style called New Journalism. Wolfe presents an as-if-firsthand account of the experiences of Ken Kesey and his band of Merry Pranksters, who traveled across the country in a colorfully painted school bus named Further. Kesey and the Pranksters became famous for their use of LSD and other psychedelic drugs in hopes of achieving intersubjectivity. The book chronicles the Acid Tests (parties in which LSD-laced Kool-Aid was used to obtain a communal trip), the groups encounters with the (in)famous figures of the time, including famous authors, Hells Angels, and The Grateful Dead, and it also describes Kesey's exile to Mexico and his arrests.

Finney's recurrent theme of a lost past or alternate now where life and love are somehow better is most fully realized in THE WOODROW WILSON DIME and TIME AND AGAIN (1970), the latter being perhaps his most important novel. MANUSCRIPT]; Timson, Leonard; Timson, Enid
Various places, 1968. Beautifully executed sketchbook of historic ornament based primarily on artifacts in the Victoria & Albert Museum, containing thirty pages of pencil, ink, and watercolor sketches by English art student Leonard Timson (1879-1936). The range of ornamental details is wide, covering sculpture, ceramic, and stained glass designs, from a sixth-century Coptic frieze, to thirteenth-century Italian mosaics in porphyry and marble heightened with gold, to colorful seventeenth-century Spanish tiles. Most of the designs are marked "S.K.M." for the South Kensington Museum, formally renamed the Victoria & Albert in 1899: most notably, a fully-finished pen and watercolor painting of the stained glass window "The Adoration of the Magi," which came to South Kensington from the Cathedral of Cortona in Tuscany. Outside the galleries, Timson records local architectural and sculptural details from Cobham Church in Kent, Fairford Church in Gloucestershire (famous for its stained glass), St. Mary's in Buckinghamshire, and even, farther afield, the entrance gates to the Antwerp Zoo. Timson's style of sketching and his annotations are indebted to the work of Richard Glazier, a member of the South Kensington Circle (along with Owen Jones and Henry Cole), and head of the Manchester Municipal School of Art. Glazier's 1899 Historic Ornament was the most widely assigned art textbook in England in the early twentieth century, and Timson was clearly immersed in it. His sketchbook imitates Historic Ornament in lettering, layout, shorthand (including "S.K.M."), and choice of subjects. I … [Click Below for Full Description]

Finney, Jack (pseudonym of Walter Braden Finney)
New York: Simon and Schuster, [1968].. Octavo, cloth. First edition. A humorous parallel world fantasy. Finney's recurrent theme of a lost past or alternate now where life and love are somehow better is most fully realized in THE WOODROW WILSON DIME and TIME AND AGAIN (1970), the latter being perhaps his most important novel. His lost past themed 1950s stories influenced the work of Rod Serling, Richard Matheson and Stephen King ("The Ledge" is a homage to Finney's "Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket"). Waggoner, The Hills of Faraway 389. A fine copy in fine dust jacket. A very sharp copy. Uncommon in this condition. (#157544)

Wolfe, Tom
New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1968. First edition. Near Fine/Near Fine. A Near Fine copy of the book with slight soiling to the white boards and minor sunning to the top edge in a Near Fine dust jacket with minor wear at the spine ends and some slight bends at the top of the front panel and flap. Stamped "$5.95 9/68" on the front end paper, which seems to indicate that this is a review copy. Wolfe chronicles the adventures and experiences of Kesey and his band of "Merry Pranksters" as they travel the country in a bus, experimenting with psychedelic drugs in the hopes of obtaining intersubjectivity. An important chronicle of hippie culture. "Wolfe's style of journalism was something new, entirely his own, as young and exuberant and frenzied as the period he was depicting." (Contemporary New York Times Review). Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket.
