BECKETT Samuel
Paris: Les ditions de minuit, 1968. Paris: Les éditions de minuit, 1968. Fine. Les éditions de minuit, Paris 1968, 14,5x19,5cm, broché. - First edition, one of 100 hors commercenumbered copies on B.F.K. de Rives, the only large paper copies with 662 other B.F.K. de Rives. Handsome autograph inscription dated Février 1968 and signed from Samuel Beckett to his friend the painter Geer (Van Velde) and his wife Lise. Samll stains to upper cover, marginally and slightly sunned. "What to say of the sliding planes, the shimmering contours, the cut-out figures in the fog, the balance that any little thing can break, breaking and re-forming themselves under our very eyes? How to talk about the colors that breathe and pant? Of the swarming stasis? Of this world without weight, without force, without shadow? Here everything moves, swims, fells, comes back, falls apart, re-forms. Everything stops, non-stop. One would say it's the revolt of the internal molecules of a stone a split second before its disintegration. That is literature" (The van Veldes' Art, or the World and the Trousers, in Cahiers d'Art n°11-12, Paris 1945). Beckett here is not talking - despite how it may appear - about his literary oeuvre, but about the paintings of Geer Van Velde, going on to add a few lines later "[Bram] Van Velde paints distance. G[eer] Van Velde paints succession." This elegy, published on the occasion of the double exhibition of the Van Veldes (Geer at Maeght's and Bram at the Galerie Mai) is the first important text on these painters, more or less unknown to the public at the time: "We've o … [Click Below for Full Description]

Beresford, Elisabeth
Ernest Benn Limited, London, 1968. Beautifully well preserved copy of this extremely scarce first edition of the children's book that possibly started the drive towards recycling! Signed to the recipient who was a children's librarian, ".Best wishes from Elisabeth Beresford and the Wombles." I think she may have been joking but who can tell?! This dedication is signed on a simple piece of notepaper which has been stuck on to the front free end paper. The glue shows through a little to the top side of the note paper. The dust jacket is just a tad edge worn and chipped with a tiny bit of loss at the foot of the spine at the back hinge. Signed copies of Wombles books, especially the first in the series, are very scarce indeed. Details of provenance on request. Photos available on request. LENNON, John
(Harmondsworth), Penguin Books, (1968). Original wrappers. 160 p. Illustrated by John Lennon. Reprint. Spine and upper cover partly discolored. Upper cover partly detached.l With an original signed drawing by John Lennon and the signature of Yoko Ono, on a card stapled onto the halftitle. It shows the well-known caricature of a bespectacled Lennon and smiling Ono.Drawing and signatures were obtained on March 28, 1969 by eleven-year-old Lorenzo Ledel, who accompanied his mother, Dutch journalist Emmy Ledel-Huf (1922-1992), to her interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono during their legendary Bed-In for Peace in the Presidential Suite at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel. Ledel-Huf's extensive interview was published in the local newspaper Het Parool (original newspaper clipping inserted in the book). The young Ledel, sitting on the edge of the bed of the world famous artists, obtained a total of ten signed cards. Shortly after, he sold these to his classmates for one guilder each. This is the last surviving card and the only card with a drawing. The large original drawing that Lennon gave to the boy on the same occasion has been lost over time... A very appealing relic, reminiscent of a great happening.

MOSBY, Joann, Larry D. Powell, and Andrew Johnson
New York, Germany, Vietnam, 1968. Unbound. Very Good. A collection of 27 letters to Joann Mosby from two different men serving overseas during the Vietnam War. The letters are near fine with very good or better envelopes with tears from opening. A small archive of letters sent to Joann Mosby from two men serving during the Vietnam War, PFC Larry Powell and PFC Andrew Johnson. The first group of letters from Lowell are written while he's stationed in Germany with Co. A 97th Signal Battalion as a telephone installer which he says "I sure don't know what they sent me over here for they need a telephone installer like another hole in the head. I have it pretty easy right now." He later said they changed his post to a switchboard operator while he says "isn't that a laugh." Lowell often writes about finding Europe boring and asking for transfers. "I'm thinking about putting in for a transfer. I'll get sent to Vietnam if I do. It can't get any worse than Europe. This place just isn't what's happening!" Although Larry and Joann never met he does sign all his letters "love ya" and some pages include drawings of hearts. In late 1966 Larry was promoted to Sergeant and his letters bear the new title in his address. He is shipped to Vietnam "Nom" in early 1967. In a letter before leaving Europe he writes to Joann saying she probably won't want to talk to him anymore because he'll probably be "shipped home in a pine box." Although he says this he continues to write to Joann from Vietnam. He writes "I am in Nam now. I am at Bien Hoe about 22 miles from Saigon." He continues, "there is … [Click Below for Full Description]

MAN RAY
- Paris, Marcel Zerbib, 1968. 1 vol. (215 x 140 mm) de 40 pp., broché, couv. illustrée. Edition originale. [Click Below for Full Description]

No. 170, Mars 1968: 'Bazaine'. Text by Rene Char et d'Andre Frenaud. In 1947, Adrien Maeght, joined the firm of his parents and assisted his father in the layout and execution. The artists created original lithographs to illustrate DLM. Mourlot did the lithographic printing and the text was printed by Union in issues 4-115. From 116-148, DLM was shot in the studios of Aime Maeght. Since 1960 an edition 'deluxe' was issued, on Arches paper, limited to 150 copies. In 1964, Adrien Maeght created the printing firm ARTE wh … [Click Below for Full Description]
