Le Guin, Ursula K.
Gollancz 1968-1973. Ursula K. Le Guin (1968, ’71, ’73) ‘Earthsea’ trilogy. UK first editions, first prints with the ‘A Wizard of Earthsea’ being the uncorrected advance proof copy, published by Gollancz. The set is comprised of: ‘A Wizard of Earthsea’, UK uncorrected proof copy presented in a custom made slipcase. Near fine condition with the scarce proof dust jacket showing “APPX £1.25” price. the wrapper is moderately faded on the spine. The Tombs of Atuan, UK first edition, first print in fine condition with very minor shelf wear and a fine, unfaded, and not price clipped dust jacket. The Farthest Shore, UK first edition, first print in fine condition. We have never seen a UK proof copy of ‘A Wizard of Earthsea’. Contrary to today’s practice when publishers print several hundred and sometimes over a thousand proof copies for distribution to reviewers, uncorrected proof copies prior to 1980s were produced in only a handful of quantities. Consequently one can buy a first trade edition anytime as there seem to be a handful available. However, this is the only proof copy on the market. A landmark fantasy series which was accoladed multiple times, and which has had an enormous influence on fantasy writing including on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, David Mitchell, Andrzej Sapkowski and the list goes on. First and Fine [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

Lyndon Johnson
“Your countrymen, your colleagues, and I are deeply in your debt for the many services you have performed in the cause of peace and a better world. Few men in public life have been so intimately involved in the vital issues of our time. Very few have contributed so much to their resolution.” Lewellyn E. Thompson was one of the most important American diplomats of the 20th Century. He was the United States Ambassador to the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War, serving two separate tours in the administrations of Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson, and then acting as advisor to Richard M. Nixon. Few Ambassadors faced as many crises as Thompson did in Moscow - the shooting down of a U.S. U-2 reconnaissance aircraft over Russia, the great confrontation between the U.S. and Soviet Union over Berlin and the building of the Berlin Wall, very difficult summits between Soviet Premier Khruschev and Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy, the August 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, and tensions over the Vietnam War. But there were also steps toward better relations. At Thompson's suggestion, Nikita Khrushchev became the first Soviet leader to visit the U.S. in 1959. Thompson helped arrange (and was present for) the 1967 summit in the U.S. between President Johnson and Premier Alexei Kosygin in Glassboro, New Jersey, after the Six-Day War in the Middle East exacerbated tensions. Also in 1967, the Soviet Union and U.S. agreed to begin cooperation in space, with the joint Soyuz-Apollo program. The first treaty on Non-Proliferation of … [Click Below for Full Description]

Yoko Ono, John Lennon, Anthony Fawcett
n.p. [Coventry], [United Kingdom] [1968]. 22 x 20.2 cm.; staple bound; black-and-white; edition size unknown; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed Artist's book published in conjunction with "Acorn Event" held at "Coventry Cathedral on June 15, 1968, in which the couple famously created Acorn Piece, a conceptual sculpture in which acorns were planted facing east and west." (Kevin Concannon "Lost in the Archive: Yoko Ono and John Lennon?s Four Thoughts," in "Review of Japanese Culture and Society," Vol. 28 (2016), pp. 262-263.) Texts by John Lennon: "This is what happens when two clouds meet," and Yoko Ono: "This is what happens with two clouds meet" (the piece is John's idea but it was so good that I stole it). Additional text by Anthony Fawcett: "The concept of these sculptures by John Lennon and Yoko Ono is express by their statement 'this is what happens when two clouds meet'. It is both symbolic and humorous at the same time. The thoughts behind it are beautiful and its true fulfillment through the cycle of growth is an end in itself ? the best idea that can ever be conceived as a work of art ? mother nature is supreme, overriding man's artificial constructions. The seeds, although they can not be seen at this stage, are acorns and slowly the oak tress will develop. It covers all fields for them ? it's a game, a joke, but at the same time serious, in the idiom of their music, their writings or even. These ideas place them on a different level than other sculptures in the exhibition so they need to be looked at through new eyes. Cry, laugh, or walk into the sky. Le Guin, Ursula [LeGuin]
Parnassus 1968-1972. First editions, first printings of each of the three novels in Le Guin's acclaimed Wizard of Earthsea triology. Octavo, 3 volumes. Each book is signed by Ursula K. Le Guin on the title page. The Wizard of Earthsea is the first issue with the publisher's faint vertical smudge running through the R in "Wizard" on the title page; that continues through the round symbol and into the second U in "Ursula" below, ending at the I in "drawings", and the dust jacket priced at $3.95. A Wizard of Earthsea with illustrations by Ruth Robbins; Tombs of Atuan and Farthest Shore with illustrations by Gail Garraty. The Tombs of Atuan is near fine in a near fine dust jacket. The Farthest Shore is fine in a near fine dust jacket. The Earthsea Trilogy, set in the archipelago of Earthsea, tells the story of Ged, a wizard's apprentice at a school of wizardry. Just as LeGuin was seemingly inspired by Tolkien, J.K. Rowling must have been influenced by this beautiful epic fantasy. Each book in the trilogy is an award winner. The Wizard of Earthsea received a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award in 1969 and a Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1979. The Tombs of Atuan was a 1972 Newbery Honor Book, and the Farthest Shore received a National Book Award in 1973. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

[MALANGA, Gerard]. Ronald Zimardi (Compiler)
np [New York?]: np, nd [ca. 1968]. First Edition. Wraps. Good. 4to. Side-stapled legal-sized wraps. Cover printe offset, remainder mimeo. 10pp. plus cover. Cover image of Malanga and Tony Kinna (sic) from Malanga's film THE RECORDING ZONE OPERATOR. Good only. Rear leaf with noticeable staining and detatched from staples. Folded through middle. Creasing here and there, with moderate edge-wear and soil. Worn but complete. Undated, though the program notes mention Warhol's 25-hour "****" as having been recently released (it first screened in December 1967) and dates one quoted article as being from March 1968, which would place this event in early-mid 1968. Also mentioned is a Warhol film based on a "title created especially for Malanga by Tennessee Williams," "S & F," for which we have never seen another reference. A fascinating document, as it details Malanga's early relationship with Warhol, including how the two met, Malanga's early work as Warhol's assistant making silkscreen paintings, and Malanga's work with Warhol in triple-screen presentations of the "Screen Tests," wherein Malanga would read poetry as the Screen Tests were shown. Also included is a great deal of unpublished biographical information, some unique to this document and some reprinted (and in some cases, "updated") from other credited sources, and mention is made that Malanga has starred in "over two dozen underground films," whereas IMDB only credits him as having starred in 13 films as of 1968. Perhaps most important to the document is the discussion of the making--and in one case, the very existence … [Click Below for Full Description]

Dick, Philip K.
Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, NY, 1968. "In a future where technological sophistication has made the ersatz virtually indistinguishable from the real, the hero is a bounty hunter who must track down and eliminate androids passing for human." Quoted from Barron; Anatomy of Wonder 4, 4-135. "An eccentric adventure story, with many comic (and philosopical) touches." Quoted from Pringle; The Ultimate Guide to Science Fiction, pg 90. The novel is the basis for the classic science fiction film "Blade Runner," a 1982 American tech noir film directed by Ridley Scott, and starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos. Also, a sequal to "Blade Runner" starring Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling and Robin Wright was released in 2017. Fine in fine and bright dust jacket with only the merest hint of rubbing at the top and bottom of the spine panel and one tiny closed tear at the top. An exceptional copy. Housed within a handsome clam shell box. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

1968. "He needs to do a lot of soul searching for he is the kind of guy we fear. His opportunity to spread his views and his cleverness will continue to be a stumbling block before we reach peace here at home."JACKIE ROBINSON.Autograph Letter Signed, to Jon Anthony Dosa, ca. 1968-1969. Robinson clearly did not like Dolan's attitude or line of questioning. In a later memoir, Dosa wrote, "[Robinson] wasn't happy with the tough questions that interviewer Joe Dolan posed to him. I later sent him a bottle of champagne and received a very kind and impassioned letter from him." This is that letter.Complete TranscriptDear John-Thanks for the champagne.
