MAN RAY
- Paris, Marcel Zerbib, 1968. 1 vol. (215 x 140 mm) de 40 pp., broché, couv. illustrée. Edition originale. [Click Below for Full Description]

No. 170, Mars 1968: 'Bazaine'. Text by Rene Char et d'Andre Frenaud. This issue contains 6 original colour lithographs with 1 being double page and 15 reproductions (7 in colour, 1 double page) on totally 32 pages (including cover). Complete as issued. Published with the sheets unbound and inserted into the fully printed cover. Work includes: original colour lithographs and offset reproductions. Description: ‘Derriere le Miroir’ accompanied each exposition at the Galerie Maeght in Paris France. The first issue appeared in 1946, The last #253 of the collection in 1982. DLM is born out of the passion of Aime and Marguerite Maeght. The first issues were intended by Aime Maeght to be spread among a large public, with original lithographs. 10.000 Copies were printed and distributed through kiosks. This failed completely and the remaining copies were sold by weight to finance the printing of issue 4, which was printed at only 1500 copies and was the catalog for the George Braque exhibition at the Galerie. Jacques Kober and Rene Char wrote the texts. This concept was continued in later issues combining great writers with great artists. In 1947, Adrien Maeght, joined the firm of his parents and assisted his father in the layout and execution. The artists created original lithographs to illustrate DLM. Mourlot did the lithographic printing and the text was printed by Union in issues 4-115. From 116-148, DLM was shot in the studios of Aime Maeght. Since 1960 an edition 'deluxe' was issued, on Arches paper, limited to 150 copies. In 1964, Adrien Maeght created the printing firm ARTE wh … [Click Below for Full Description]

William Copley editor, SMS NY, New York 1968 - "The Letter Edged in Black Press; SMS 2; 1968; 7 minutes record; 11" x 7.5" Marcel Duchamp disk. ESQUIVONS LES ECCHYMOSES DES ESQUIMAUX AUX MOTS EXQUIS. Edition was ostensibly 1000+ of each box, though in fact far fewer were made, and 90% remained unsold until 20 years later they were rediscovered in an attic, many having been damaged over time. At first there were several dozen subscribers, and almost no other sales, which is why the Terry Riley and La Monte Young 5 inch tapes were produced in less than 50 copies each. Now "complete" sets of SMS either are missing those two items or have them in cassette form, having been remade under licence (including the elaborately designed black boxes) a quarter of a century later. This Duchamp multiple is, verso, a 45 rpm recording of his lecture, "The Function of Art the function of the spec/tateur " Verso: Facsimile of one of his eight pun disks, die cut white lettering on brown card, as new What follows is a perhaps useful description from a Christies Catalogue in 2010 selling a different one of the 8 original pun/disks: Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) ?Disk Inscribed with Pun inscribed 'L'enfant qui tête est un souffleur de chair chaude et n'aime pas le chou-fleur de serre chaude.'? White letters mounted on disk, painted black and mounted on record ?Diameter: 11¼ in. (28.6 cm.) ?Executed in 1923. Pre-Lot Text ???While living in New York during the fall of 1920, Duchamp wrote to his sister Suzanne and her husband Jean Crotti in Paris telling him that he acquired a "Moving Picture Camera," … [Click Below for Full Description]

Shortly after, he was transferred to the East and was sent to Ceylan. [Hairy Who]. NUTT, Jim
Chicago: Hyde Park Art Center, 1968. Close to fine, not mail circulated.. First Edition. Poster, offset lithograph on light blue paper, measures 21 1/4 X 16 1/2 inches. Exhibition poster announcing a show of work by members of the Hairy Who at the Hyde Art Center, Chicago, from April 5 through May 11, 1968. Lightly SIGNED by Art Green in pencil to verso. The exhibition, the group's third at the Hyde Art Center, would then travel to the San Francisco Art Institute (confusingly, a poster advertising the the San Francisco exhibit, also by Jim Nutt, mentions the show opening on May 5th!). The poster was designed to be folded in fourths, and then mailed. Unusually, this example is not folded, but instead lays flat, and shows the mailing stamps with postage permit and return address both stamped to verso.
