McCarthy, Cormac
New York: Random House, 1968. First edition. A Fine copy of the book in Very Good dust jacket. The dust jacekt has a couple longer tears at the flap folds and on the rear panel. Minor chipping and rubbing a the spine ends. Cormac McCarthy's second novel, published in 1968, "Outer Dark" follows the story of a brother and sister who commit incest - and their subsequent wanderings. His first book, "The Orchard Keeper," had won the 1966 William Faulkner Foundation for notable first novel and McCarthy is currently considered by critic Harold Bloom as one of the four greatest American novel writers working today. "There is not a page of this novel which does not depict swift and significant action. Nor does Mr. McCarthy waste a single word on his character's thoughts. With total objectivity he describes what they do and records their speech. Such discipline comes not only from mastery over words but from an understanding wise enough and compassionate enough to dare tell so abysmally dark a story." (Contemporary New York Times review). Fine in Very Good dust jacket. Fine in Very Good dust jacket.

SIEGELAUB Seth [a cura di]
New York, Seth Siegelaub / John W. Wender, 1968. 27x20,5 cm., pp. [50 - 204/254]. "Seth Sigelaub asked me to contribute twenty-five pages to a book to be reproduced by Xerox. I worked out a system of twenty-four permutaions of 1,2,3,4, using the linear system. The changes were made by rotating the numbers in four sections of four. Each example was drawn in the simple (not superimposed) method. Then, I wanted to make a more complete statement of this system and used different methods of change." (Lucy R. Lippard. "Six years: the dematerialization of the art object from 1966 to 1972", New York, Praeger, 1972). Tiratura di 1.000 esemplari. Edizione originale. Bibliografia: Maffei - De Donno 2009: pag. 29; Siegelaub 2016: pp. 116-121; Tonini - Maderuelo 2014: pag. 56, cat. n. 3 [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

(Hellerman, Fred) Arlo Guthrie, Venable Herndon, Arthur Penn
New York: Florin Corporation, 1968. Paperback. Very Good. Shooting script, orange-pink wraps, two nickle-plated rivets, 1968, 114 leaves, light wear and use throughout. The copy of FRED HELLERMAN, who was the musical director of the film as well as the producer of the 1967 record album of the same title. With notes by him throughout and with his name in pencil on front cover. Provenance: estate of Fred Hellerman. Hellerman (1927-2016) was an original member of The Weavers, formed in 1948 with Pete Seeger, Lee Hays and Ronnie Gilbert. Hellerman sang, played guitar, produced and composed. The Weavers are considered one of the foremost inspirations of the American folk revival. Blacklisted as communists in 1952, they broke up but continued to perform occasionally. Their records sold in the millions. Great association copy of this shooting script with many notes by Hellerman. Alice's Restaurant, featuring the music of Arlo Guthrie, represents a bridge between the folk scene and the hippie scene, with comedic commentary on pacifism and the Vietnam War.

COOK, Peter (Editor)
(Archigram) (1968), (London). 8vo. Original stapled folding envelope holding nineteen sheets: fourteen 8" by 5.5" approx.; five 16" by 5.5" (folded in half, as issued). Envelope very good, with an inch-long tear at head of spine, some light creases and touches of soil. One staple separated. Sheets about near fine to fine: bright, crisp, and clean. Complete. Issue of this important, beautifully designed little magazine of radical architecture published on the occasion of the 1968 Milan Triennale. The young Archigram group operated from a utopian futurist, Buckminster Fuller-inspired view, with technology at the forefront. As Mike Webb put it, Archigram originated "because we felt at the time that very exciting things were happening [in architecture], as indeed they were," particularly in the US -- but London still lacked an avant garde, and felt "empty and lifeless" [CLIP STAMP FOLD, p. 27]. ARCHIGRAM EIGHT is a series of loose sheets dealing with "the problem of direct personal provision: of comfort, facility, satisfaction, enquiry." Each sheet is marked within several categories including metamorphosis, nomad, indeterminacy, hard(ware)/soft(ware), emancipation, exchange/response, and comfort. An important record of avant-garde architecture (and radical '60s optimism), with gorgeous graphic design. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Kholmov, Ratmir Dmitrievich (1925-2006) and Mikhail Nekhemyevich Tal signed
Riga, Latvia: LPSR Saha Federacija, 1968. (9 3/4" x 5 1.2") original score sheet in Ratmir Kholmov's hand with score on both sides and signed on the verso by both contestants Ratmir Kholmov and Mikhail Tal. Played March 31 Round 4, 43 moves, in four game match which ended in a tie with all games drawn.Mikhail Nekhemyevich Tal was a Soviet Latvian chess Grandmaster and the eighth World Chess Champion (from 1960 to 1961). Widely regarded as a creative genius and one of the best attacking players of all time, Tal played in a daring, combinatorial style. His play was known above all for improvisation and unpredictability. Every game, he once said, was as inimitable and invaluable as a poem. He was often called "Misha", a diminutive for Mikhail, and "The magician from Riga". Both The Mammoth Book of the World's Greatest Chess Games and Modern Chess Brilliancies include more games by Tal than any other player. In addition, Tal was a highly regarded chess writer. He also holds the records for both the first and second longest unbeaten streaks in competitive chess history.Ratmir Dmitrievich Kholmov was a Russian chess Grandmaster. He won many international tournaments in Eastern Europe during his career, and tied for the Soviet Championship title in 1963, but lost the playoff. Kholmov was not well known in the West, since he never competed there during his career peak, being confined to events in socialist countries. His chess results were impressive, so this may have been for security reasons, as Kholmov had been a wartime sailor. But he was one of the strongest Soviet players fro … [Click Below for Full Description]

WILDE, Oscar and DINE, Jim
London: Petersburg Press 1968, 1968. Limited edition, 125/200 signed by Jim Dine. Unpaginated. 450x315mm. Bound in emerald green velvet over boards with the title blocked in silver on the upper cover. This is edition B of Dine's three editions of Dorian Gray. The original colour lithographs, etchings and text pages were prepared on zinc and aluminium plates by Jim Dine in February 1968 and subsequently printed on Velin Arches at the Atelier Desjobert and Atelier Leblanc in Paris. It contains twelve lithographs six of which are the signed set issued loose in Editions A and C. This copy lacks the four signed etchings which are called for in the publisher's notes. The distinctive and wonderfully louche binding is in very good condition with some slight loosening at the hinges and some very minor rubbing at the extremities. The contents are near fine with the lithographs in excellent condition. The text is a reproduction of a working typescript of Dine's stage version of The Picture of Dorian Gray. It contains manuscript corrections, drawings, and notes by Dine. Although the play was never performed, Dine's drawings for the costumes and his typescript were retained to create this beautiful artist's book. Paris: A.C Mazo et Cie, 1968. First edition. EXTREMELY RARE LIMITED EDITION OF Surrealist master RENÉ MAGRITTE'S Les Enfants Trouvés, number 43 of only 350 issues printed on Velin d'Arches. COMPLETE WITH TWELVE BREATHTAKING LITHOGRAPHS. "The art of René Magritte has had an influence far exceeding the confines of the art world. Imagery adapted from his paintings has been widely disseminated for more than half a century through advertising, cartoons, film, book jackets, and popular music... His work has continued to appeal to modern audiences hungry for the puzzling conjunctions of the everyday and the fantastic... The inscrutable nature of Magritte's work--coded, self-referential, and incongruous--has [moreover] intrigued several generations of artists," (Stephanie Barron). The first four illustrations (numbered recto) are magnificently unique, conceived by Magritte specifically for this production. While certainly distinctive, these images--as well as the final eight--represent a summary of his favorite ideas and symbols, many taken from recent pictures: the clouds, female torsos, and birds, to name a few. Eight following illustrations were originally created by Magritte for his mural "The Enchanted Domain". An awing 360-degree eight-panel mural, the masterpiece was painted to fulfill a commission by Gustave J. Nellens, owner of the Casino Communal at Knokke-Le-Zoute in Belgium. A massive undertaking for a famously reclusive artist, Magritte commented: "When asked to devise a series of pictures for the walls of a Casino gaming room, I did not think along the lines expected … [Click Below for Full Description]

Watson, James D.
New York Atheneum 1968. Octavo. Original blue boards, titles to spine gilt and to upper board in blind, red endpapers, top edge yellow. With the dust jacket. Contemporary photocopied review loosely inserted. Spine very slightly rolled, some small spots to the top edge of the text block, just a little fading and rubbing at the extremities of the cloth. An excellent copy in the bright, price-clipped dust jacket with a very small chip near the top of the spine panel and a little minor rubbing and some minuscule nicks at the edges. First edition, first printing and an unusually attractive copy in the bright dust jacket. The Double Helix is one of the most significant first-hand accounts of the scientific process written during the 20th-century. With "Pepys-like frankness," Watson describes science as it actually happens, including the frustrations, dead-ends, and gritty political battles on the path to intellectual glory. Richard Feynman praised Watson's account, writing that, "He has described admirably how it feels to have that frightening and beautiful experience of making a great scientific discovery". John F. Kennedy
Early in his brief administration, likely right at the very start, President John F. Kennedy and his original Cabinet met around the Cabinet Room conference table in the White House. A photographer from U.S. News & World Report, a very popular weekly news magazine at the time, was there to record the momentous event. Pictured in the photograph were (left to right): Postmaster General J. Edward Day, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Adlai E. Stevenson, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara, Secretary of Agriculture Orville L. Freeman, Secretary of Labor Arthur J. Goldberg, Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare Abraham A. Ribicoff, Secretary of Commerce Luther H. Hodges, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, Secretary of State Dean Rusk, President Kennedy himself, Secretary of the Treasury C. Douglas Dillon, and Secretary of the Interior Stewart L. Udall. A handful of copies of the photograph were made, and these were signed by all those pictured, and then distributed to the participants or the President's senior staffers. Robert McNamara and Arthur Goldberg are known to have each received one. The only other one that has surfaced is this, given to Fred Dutton, President Kennedy's Special Assistant to the President, who went on to manage Robert F. Kennedy's presidential campaign in 1968. Whether other examples have survived is unknown. A 16 by 20 inch black-and-white silver gelatin print photograph of Kennedy and his Cabinet, likely circa January-February 1961, signed by all. Kennedy has placed his signature near the lower right co … [Click Below for Full Description]
