        Concetto spaziale

The Double Helix: A Personal Account of the Discovery of the Structure of DNA.

London: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1968. First edition of the author's ground breaking work regarding the discovery of DNA. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by both James D. Watson and Francis Crick on the title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with some light rubbing to the spine crown. Rare signed by both Watson and Crick. "Science seldom proceeds in the straightforward logical manner imagined by outsiders," writes James Watson in The Double Helix, his account of his codiscovery (along with Francis Crick) of the structure of DNA. Watson and Crick won Nobel Prizes for their work, and their names are memorized by biology students around the world. But as in all of history, the real story behind the deceptively simple outcome was messy, intense, and sometimes truly hilarious. To preserve the "real" story for the world, James Watson attempted to record his first impressions as soon after the events of 1951-1953 as possible, with all their unpleasant realities and "spirit of adventure" intact.

        Letter - George C. Scott

      - Typed letter signed "George Scott" to New York City Mayor John Lindsay, 8vo., on personal stationery (New York: September 5, 1968); approximately 125 words; closed tear; unpublished. "Differences of opinion are what make a horse race," Scott informed Mayor Lindsay. "I'll agree with you on one point, that the littering of street has no specific time schedule, and a cleaner New York means working at it every day, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but you don't water down every street every hour, every day to keep pace with the litter. All I'm suggesting is you time your watering to convenience pedestrians." An exceptional letter. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

Weibliche Herrschaft im 16. Jahrhundert.

Jahrhundert.         Archive of production photographs and ephemera from "2001: A Space Odyssey," from the collection of scientific advisor Frederick I. Ordway III

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer [MGM], Beverly Hills, CA 1968 - Archive including 20 vintage linen-backed production photographs, a trade advertisement, a film program, and a souvenir booklet from the 1968 film "2001: A Space Odyssey." From the collection of NASA scientific consultant Frederick I. Ordway III, with images prominently featuring Ordway, production designer Harry Lange, Arthur C. Clarke, Stanley Kubrick, and others. One photograph is SIGNED by Ordway in white marker. All photographs mounted on matte board, as issued.Kubrick's sprawling, science fiction epic traces the evolution of human intelligence under the influence of an unspecified alien force. Along with "Blade Runner," Kubrick's masterpiece forever altered the standard for visual and conceptual sophistication in science fiction and genre films. The pre-production for the film set standards as well, as Kubrick hired one of the greatest science fiction authors of the 1960s, Arthur C. Clarke, to be his screenwriter, and hired over 20 scientists like Ordway to consult on every detail of the film. The film's high degree of scientific accuracy, coupled with bleeding-edge special effects and minimal use of dialogue, make "2001" universally recognized as one of the most influential films ever made. The development of the film was kept strictly under wraps, and behind-the-scenes material of any kind is rare. Winner of an Academy Award for Best Special Effects, and nominated for three others including Best Director. Set in space, shot on location in Scotland, England, Arizona, and Utah. Photographs 8 x 10 inches (20.5 x 25.5 cm), mounted on 11 x 14 inch matte board (30 x 35.5 cm). Trade advertisement 9 x 12 inches (23 x 30.5 cm), full color, creased.         Codex Cospi. Calendario Messicano, 4093, Biblioteca Universitaria Bologna.

Akademische Druck- und Verlagsanstalt, Graz 1968 - Description: 2 parts. Text: 31 pages with illustrations, fold out table and bibliography. Codex. Housed in a royal Octavo box (10" x 8 1/4) with leather spine. (Handbook of Middle American Indians volume 14, page 113) Fourth edition. The Codex Cospi also know as Codex Cospianus. Codice Cospiano, Codice de Bologna. Codice de Bolonia. Libro della China. is a book belonging to a group of five pictorial manuscripts known as the Codex Borgia Group. The cover which dates from the 17th century shows an inscription indicating that the codex was given as a Christmas present to Ferdinando Cospi by Valerio Zani, in 1665. Nothing is known of the history before this date. The first mention of the codex was made by Lorenzo Legati in his catalog of the Museo Cospiano. The first edition of the MS was by Edward King, Lord Kingsborough, in 1831, lithographed from tracings made by Agli. In the middle of the 19th century a task of commentation of the document was made by Cardinal Giuseppe Mezzofanti. A facsimile in photochrome-lithography was published in 1898 by J Florimond, Duc de Loubat; a commentary by Eeuard Seler in 1900. The third is by color photography and includes a page-by-page commentary. The fourth, this copy, is a photographic color facsimile. In this edition on leaf (two blank pages) is omitted and the back cover placed on the wrong side. The manuscript is well preserved. it is painted on deerskin, and protected by two 17th century covers which were probably made to replace former wooden covers. There are few data available for studying the colors used by micro-analytical methods. In the present study the colors have, for the first time, been described through the use of color-standards without recourse to chemical analysis. The style of art of the Codex Cospi has similarities with the style of paintings on pottery from Nochistlan in the Mixteca Alta region of southwestern Mexico; but there are also resemblances to the style of Cholula-Tlaxcala. The recto side consists of three sections in which calendrical data are linked with sequences of pictures. These arrangements were used for divinatory purposes. On the verso side, which at first had been left blank, eleven rituals were depicted by the hand of another painter. Rituals of this kind have been preserved of modern time, through much mixed with phenomena of acculturation. Karl Anton Nowotny was a pioneer and leading exponent of applying comparative ethnography to the study of pre-Columbian and conquest-era texts and codices. In this technique, the meaning and symbolism of the texts are analyzed and compared with the cultural practices and beliefs of modern indigenous Mesoamerican peoples whose traditions have been maintained. Nowotny used comprehensive ethnographic studies—such as those conducted by Leonhard Schultze in the 1930s among the Nahuas of the central Mexican altiplano—as a means of garnering further insight into the ancestral practices and beliefs underpinning the codices and related iconographies. Nowotny also contributed extensively to the study and interpretation of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican calendars, their functioning and how they were used. Building upon work by earlier scholars such as Eduard Seler, Nowotny and his contemporaries like Alfonso Caso and Paul Kirchhoff greatly added to the scholarly understanding of calendrical elements such as the central Mexican tonalpohualli, veintena and trecena cycles Condition: Some rubbing to box extremities and spine leather else a better than very good copy.         Codex Cospi. Calendario Messicano, 4093, Biblioteca Universitaria Bologna

Graz: Akademische Druck- und Verlagsanstalt, 1968. Description:2 parts. Rituals of this kind have been preserved of modern time, through much mixed with phenomena of acculturation.Karl Anton Nowotny was a pioneer and leading exponent of applying comparative ethnography to the study of pre-Columbian and conquest-era texts and codices. Building upon work by earlier scholars such as Eduard Seler, Nowotny and his contemporaries like Alfonso Caso and Paul Kirchhoff greatly added to the scholarly understanding of calendrical elements such as the central Mexican tonalpohualli, veintena and trecena cyclesCondition:Some rubbing to box extremities and spine leather else a better than very good copy.

Der Prolog der hebräischen Bibel. Der literar- und theologiegeschichtliche Diskurs der Urgeschichte (Genesis 1-11) [Gebundene Ausgabe] von Andreas Schüle (Autor) Reihe/Serie Abhandlungen zur Theologie des Alten und Neuen Testaments ; 86

TVZ Theologischer Verlag, 1968. His Toy: Publisher's navy blue calico cloth, spine lettered in gilt, top edge stained pink, pale yellow laid end papers, typographic dust jacket printed in green, yellow and purplish pink on black background, priced $6.50. Signed by Berryman on front flyleaf and inscribed: "To Joseph Hass / John Berryman [underscored]." (Haas was the Chicago Daily News reporter who interviewed Berryman on several occasions, as well as, perhaps, more famously, Bob Dylan.) About Fine (slight fading to topstain); About Fine jacket (slight toning and wrinkling to rear panel's upper edge, trivial spots lower edge). Stefanik A11.1.a and A16.1.a. Fine- ¶ In the mid-1950s, Berryman began an intensive written analysis of his dreams that "led him toward a new sort of poem, a short, jazzy lyric spoken by a persona, or sometimes by a number of voices. The new poems, which would eventually become The Dream Songs, explored deep recesses of the unconscious, Oedipal tendencies, intense feelings of loss, . . . By the early 1960s he had a suitcase of these new poems, written primarily in eight-line stanzas and spoken by a character named Henry, whom Berryman later described as a white middle-aged man who has suffered an 'irreversible loss.' . . . Berryman put a substantial group of the poems together and published them in 1964 as 77 Dream Songs. . . . Four years later, he published a larger collection of Dream Songs titled His Toy, His Dream, His Rest, bringing the total number published to 385. . . . The themes of The Dream Songs are many, including: love, death, fame, history, politics, and the individual in relation to society. The sequence includes a number of memorable elegies for fellow poets, and remarkable individual poems brooding over the death of a father. However, it is the voice and character of Henry, and the unique style of the poems, driven by Henry's humour, depression, and strange associations, which continue to fascinate readers."
