        SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH

Framed Photograph. Fine, handsome presentation. A fine black-and-white photograph (7-1/2" x 10-3/4") matted and framed to an overall size of 13" x 17". The photo depicts the President and Lady Bird standing in front of the White House painting of Abraham Lincoln. On the mat beneath the photograph in the hand of Lady Bird is INSCRIBED "To His Excellency the President of the Republic/of Liberia and Mrs. Tubman - / with warm best/wishes - Lady Bird Johnson/March 27, 1968." Next to the First Lady's signature and beneath his image the President has also SIGNED the mat. William V. S. Tubman was the President of Liberia from 1943 to 1971. Under his leadership the Liberian Government declared war on the Axis Powers, women were given the right to vote, and racial discrimination was outlawed. He died in office in 1971 and was replaced by the Liberian Vice-President, William Tolbert, Jr. Surely some thought went into the setting for this photograph as it was President Lincoln who, as the Great Emancipator, recognized the independence of Liberia in 1862 during the American Civil War. Prior to the Presidency of Lincoln, Liberia was not recognized as a country because earlier presidents were reluctant to accept a black ambassador in Washington, DC. Liberia declared its independence in 1847 and based its constitution on that of the United States. Personal State gifts given by the President of the United States to another country's leader are rarely offered in the marketplace. Given Johnson's civil rights record, this item is all the more exceptional.

Original Poster for a 1968 Performance by Cream at The Fillmore West and Winterland (BG-110)

Los Angeles: Bill Graham No. BG-110-OP-1, 1968. First printing single poster for separate March 7 and March 8-10 performances by Cream at Bill Graham's Fillmore West and Winterland, respectively, in San Francisco. First issue, per the points in Eric King's poster guide, issued on uncoated index stock. & & Designer and artist Stanley Mouse made the interesting (and in the brief history of this band, unique) choice of printing the black and teal artwork against a cream-colored background. Together for only a little more than two years, Cream had at this point just released their second, defining record, "Disraeli Gears" (which included "Sunshine of Your Love," "Strange Brew," and "Tales of Brave Ulysses") and would complete "Wheels of Fire" ("White Room," "Politician") later in 1968. At the end of that year, after virtually defining the rock power trio concept, the group would make the decision to disband. Fine condition. 13-31/32 x 21-1/16 inches. A pristine example.         1,2,3 To The Zoo

Cleveland and New York: The World Publishing Company, 1968. First edition. Thin quarto, original cloth. Signed by Eric Carle on the title page. Fine in near fine price-clipped dust jacket with a small chip on the front panel, and wear at the spine ends. The artist's first solely authored and original picture book. 1,2,3 To the Zoo features a band of animals traveling to the zoo by train. Children can count out the members of each group as they pass by, car by car. Carle's colorful trademark collage art makes this wordless counting book a fun and educational way to put children on the right track to numerical comprehension. Without any words at all, Carle is able to relate a masterful tale that captures the essences of zoology and mathematics in such a way where even a child can grasp the importance of these disciplines.

Clarke to his protege, one-time secretary, and longtime friend Ian Macauley; "To Ian - my second Book-of-the-Month Clubber! (This is where I came in in 1952.) All the best, Arthur. 24 Nov '68". Despite the inscription, this isn't the book club edition. Macauley was the dedicatee of Clarke's first published hardcover novel, *Islands in the Sky*, and was an award-winning *New York Times* journalist. He also edited Clarke's book of collected essays, *Greetings, Carbon-Based Bipeds!* (2000).         PAVANE

London: Rupert Hart-Davis,. 1968. boards.. Slight spine lean, else a fine copy in fine dust jacket. (#142589). First edition. "Papal domination of Europe has slowed progress and a dystopian medievalism has lasted into the twentieth century" - Sargent, British and American Utopian Literature, 1516-1985, pp. 313-4. "... a striking work of the imagination." - Burgess, Ninety-nine Novels: The Best in English since 1939, p. 104. With his second book, Roberts came fully into his own as a writer. PAVANE superbly depicts an alternate history in which -- Elizabeth I having been assassinated, the Spanish Armada victorious and no Protestant rise of capitalism in the offing -- a technologically backward England survives under the sway of the Catholic Church Militant. The individual stories are moody, eloquent, elegiac and thoroughly convincing." - John Clute, SFE (online). Anatomy of Wonder (2004) II-910. Pringle, Science Fiction: The 100 Best Novels 58. Survey of Science Fiction Literature IV, pp. 1660-64.

[Photographie originale] Neuf tirages photographiques autour de Jean-Michel Folon pour son exposition à la Galerie de France, 1968

1968. Photo. Illus. by Ugo Mulas. Très bon. Aucune reliure. 9 tirages gélatino-argentiques d'époque. Feuilles : 37,5 x 28,5 cm (environ), images : 34 x 24 cm (environ).
