        Setting Free the Bears

NY: Random House. (1968). The first book by the author of such bestsellers as The World According to Garp and A Prayer for Owen Meany, among others. Unlike his later books which, after Garp, sold literally hundreds of thousand of copies -- millions, if one includes the paperback sales -- this book sold slightly over 6000 copies in two printings. Slight play in the binding; very near fine in a fine dust jacket but for a corner crease to the front flap. First Edition. Hardcover.

Andy Warhol: Moderna Muséet Exhibition Catalog

Stockholm: Moderna Muséet. 1st Edition. Soft cover. Very Good. FIRST EDITION, profusely illustrated with full-page black and white photographs. Warhol's Moderna Muséet catalog "is a fine example of the catalogue-as-artist's-book, a form that ostensibly began with the Dadaists and Surrealists, and is produced with some of the roughest reproductions ever seen, which are entirely appropriate, and supplemented by a long section of Factory snapshots by Billy Name. The genre was revitalized by the Pop movement, and Warhol in particular, which demonstrates his position as a latter-day Dadaist. The Moderna Museet publication especially had a great influence upon Japanese photography in the late 1960s and 1970s, particularly the photobooks of the Provoke era" (Parr and Badger, Vol II).Published by Moderna Muséet, Sweden, in 1968 as an exhibition catalogue for the show "Andy Warhol" at the Moderna Muséet in Stockholm, February - March, 1968.Stockholm: Moderna Muséet, 1968. Quarto (approx. 8.5 x 10.5 in.), original illustrated paper wrappers. Small piece of tape at top of spine; superficial split at center of glue binding (as often), everything holding.         Listen to the Lambs

New York, W. W. Norton & Company Inc., , 1968. Octavo. Original quarter sand cloth on black textured paper boards in dust jacket. Small bump at the tail of the spine, dust jacket clipped and a little crumpled head and tail of the spine, but otherwise a very good copy. First Edition. "What it's like - a Negro in the land of Mister Charlie - jazz, hate, "Negritude", the meagre hope for the future, the holocaust of the riots - by one who has lived it, and wants the white world to know." A cult classic American popular music autobiography, wherein Otis relates his integration as a Greek-American musician into the Watts Negro community of the 1930's and 40's, as well as his adventurous life beyond that time. Otis was one of the most successful bandleaders of his era, a rhythm and blues pianist, vibraphonist, drummer, singer, bandleader, and impresario, who wrote and popularized "Harlem Nocturne," then went on to discover The Coasters, Etta James, Big Jay MacNeely, Jackie Wilson, Hank Ballard, and Little Willie John. In the 1950's, he wrote "Willie and the Hand Jive" and "Every Beat of My Heart." His son is the multi-talented Shuggie Otis, a cult figure in American soul and pop music, who is best known for writing the 1970's hit, "Strawberry Letter 23." Otis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. A rare book, chronicling an extraordinary life in jazz, blues and rhythm and blues. An excellent copy of an extremely scarce title.
