THE DREAMING JEWELS (Pristine Signed Copy)

Gollancz 1968 - Gollancz, London. 1968. Immaculate copy of the novel of the jewel people. Quite pristine with flawless red boards as sharp as the recriminations of a virgin bridge who discovers that the groom is a eunuch on the honeymoon, a spotless, mint spine as immaculate as the biblical conception, clean, untouched white pages and a perfect dustjacket bearing the 21/ shilling price. An unbelievable copy. AS NEW and SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

THE EARTHSEA SERIES comprising A WIZARD OF EARTHSEA, THE TOMBS OF ATUAN and THE FARTHEST SHORE

Berkeley & New York: Parnassus Press / Atheneum , 1968-1973. First Editions, Early Printings.. First editions, early printings. Octavo, original cloth, dust jackets. Three volumes. A WIZARD OF EARTHSEA: First edition, either the second or third printing. Original blue-green cloth, titles on spine panel & illustration on front panel printed in black. 204 pp; decorative maps, chapter headings, title page, binding and dust jacket artwork, all by Ruth Robbins. Of several noted printings and bindings, this one bears the following points: no vertical smudge on title page, titles and illustration on covers printed without embossment. Inner hinges reinforced with a visible strip of white linen tape (denoting the issue sent to libraries); "11 up" on top front dust wrapper flap. One of 16,500 copies which made up the second and third printings (Curry issue B), although no mention is made of library bindings for these printings. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket, as new. THE TOMBS OF ATUAN: First edition, Third Printing. Original blue cloth titled and stamped in silver, red endpapers. 163 pp. Decorative maps, chapter headings and dust jacket artwork by Gail Garraty. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket, price corner clipped, Newberry Honour Book Seal on front panel, as issued. THE FARTHEST SHORE: First edition, second printing. Original black cloth titled and decorated in purple gilt, purple endpapers. 223 pp. Decorative maps, chapter headings and dust jacket artwork by Gail Garraty. A fine copy in a near fine dust jacket, price corner clipped, slight rubbing to extremities, a few tiny closed tears at edges. ¶¶¶ First and early printings of this set did not survive well, most copies having been distributed to libraries; it is extremely uncommon to find a clean early set that does not bear ex-library stigmata. A very sharp clean set, with no previous ownership markings, foxing, stains or other defects. ¶ Still the finest of fantasies. "With bookshop racks tottering under tales of polystyrene princesses and battery-powered swordsmen, the tough, clear vision of a Le Guin is the sort of magic the genre needs" - Cawthorn & Moorcock , FANTASY : The 100 Best Books (1988).

Nippon Gekijo Shashincho -- Japan, A Photo Theatre - signed by both Hosoe and Moriyama in 1969

The book itself is in good condition, with some fading to spine, as is typical for this title, but no other major issues. The fragile slipcase has one nick on the obverse, otherwise no major issues.         NINE SWIMMING POOLS AND A BROKEN GLASS.

Self-published, [Los Angeles, CA] 1968 - Artist's book. Color and black and white. Wrappers. Glassine dust jacket. Stitch bound and glued. [First edition of 2000 copies]. Very good condition. 7 x 5.5". Unpaginated. 64 pages. "Ruscha has referred to the blank pages in Nine Swimming Pools in characteristically prosaic terms, observing that it was the cheapest way to have the color printed and that the blank pages just fell as they may (which one might question). In addition, he has said that he could have added one or two more swimming pools at no extra cost, but wanted the book to contain nine pools rather than eleven.? In connection with Nine Swimming Pools, he said that it was not just the silence of the white pages that was important, rather that the extra pages were valuable because they gave body to the book."         The Boys in the Band

Farrar Straus Giroux, New York 1968 - First edition. A small stain to the bottom of the boards and text block, thus about very good in good dustwrapper with scrapes along the top of the front panel. Full-page Inscription from Crowley to the actress Ruth Ford: "Algonquin NYC 1/12/69, Ruth, I'm so glad that I am lucky enough to have found you. It's such a shame to think that there will be, and are some, who'll miss you and never even know how they've been cheated. With gratitude and with my love, Mart." Ford, the Mississippi-born sister of surrealist author Charles Henri Ford, was a beautiful model and actress, first in Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre, and later in films and theater. Notably, she starred on Broadway in Jean Paul Sartre's *No Exit* in 1946, under the direction of John Huston (the last of five Broadway plays he directed). Her apartment in the Dakota became a salon for authors such as Tennessee Williams, Edward Albee, Terrence McNally, and Truman Capote. A chance encounter between Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents in her Manhattan living room led to their collaboration, with her Dakota-neighbor Leonard Bernstein, on *West Side Story*. Similarly, she brought together Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight to create the celebrated stories of *Eloise*, the little girl who lived at the Plaza.Ford is well known also for her long friendship with William Faulkner, which began with her dating his brother Dean in the early 1930s. Faulkner was openly smitten with Ford for many years. He wrote his experimental 1951 title *Requiem for a Nun*, a sequel to his early and controversial novel *Sanctuary*, with her in mind. He further declared, to the consternation of his agent and publisher, that it was her dramatic property (*Requiem for a Nun* was a mixture of stage play and novel). Stage production of the title stalled for years, partly because Faulkner's experimental drama did not lend itself to live theatre, and partly because the producers were unsure of Ford's suitability. Faulkner was adamant that it was her dramatic property, and in 1959 she adapted the play herself and starred in its London production opposite her second husband, Zachary Scott. Her stage version received enthusiastic reviews in both London and New York, but did not fare so well with audiences and closed after a short run on Broadway. Ford continued to act on both stage and screen well into the 1980s. She passed away in 2009 at the age of 98.The first successful play to revolve entirely around the gay lifestyle. Basis for the 1970 William Friedkin film. A book seldom found signed, we've never seen one with a better inscription. A wonderful inscription and nice association. See this book in 3D on our site.         Biggles and the Deep Blue Sea

Brockhampton Press, London 1968 - 1968, 1st Edition, 1st Impression. 8vo., 184pp. Publisher's original dark red cloth boards with gilt titles to spine. The book itself is in fine condition, very firm spine tips, fore edge corners very firm and sharp, no wear or rubbing. The binding is very tight and square. There is some light spotting to the edges of the text block. Internally, the pages are very clean indeed. There are a couple of foxing spots over the first few pages and a short neat inscription at the top of the front free endpaper. Apart from those and some of the edge spots beginning to appear at the page edges, there are no marks, stains or blemishes. The book appears unread. The dust jacket has been price clipped and has a crease line down the upper fore edge, with a tiny 5mm x 1mm of surface rubbing. The top of the spine has very light surface rubbing at the extreme tip and there is a small, light drop mark of 10mm down the upper joint and two 1mm diameter ones on the spine. The two bottom fore edge corners have a miniscule amount of very light surface rubbing only. We have listed every dust jacket defect, but overall it is in stunning, near fine condition. Despite the very minor flaws detailed above, this book is in overall near fine condition.
