1968 Original FRANK SINATRA - SIGNED - SCREENPLAY / SCRIPT "THE LADY IN CEMENT" Rare Early Sinatra Signature

TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX / ARCOLA-MILLFIELD 1968. TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX / ARCOLA-MILLFIELD : , 1968. ORIGINAL FINAL SHOOTING SCRIPT / SCREENPLAY of the TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX / ARCOLA-MILLFIELD PRODUCTION of "THE LADY IN CEMENT". The film Starred FRANK SINATRA as Tony Rome, and Raquel Welch. This Original Screenplay is SIGNED by FRANK SINATRA on the Title Page. The screenplay is dated FEBRUARY 21, 1968. It was Written by Marvin Albert and Jack Guss, (based on the novel by Marvin Albert). Though the title-page states "Final", this was clearly still a work-in-progress. There are numerous blue colored sheets dated 3/4/68 and 3/5/68 that are mixed in with the white sheets, obviously with changes, corrections and/or additions. Also, the film was released on November 20, 1968, nine months after this "final" draft screenplay, meaning there was time for many other changes. Printed blue-paper covers, bound with 3 brass brads, mimeographed inner pages, 8.5x11", white paper mixed with blue paper, 133 pages plus the title page, pages printed on one side only. LADY IN CEMENT is a 1968 Detective Film, Directed by Gordon Douglas and starring FRANK SINATRA as TONY ROME and Raquel Welch as Kit Forrester. A sequel to the 1967 film "TONY ROME" that also Starred Frank Sinatra. Based on the novel by Marvin H. Albert, Lady In Cement was released on November 20, 1968. Condition: The front cover has staining and shorelining from what looks to be an old coffee spill that was quickly wiped up, there is also a bit on the back cover; the covers are creased and worn where they overhang the inner pages; the front page edges (edges of the closed screenplay) have some foxing; the title page has a splattering of old coffee drops to its blank upper front margin and a vertical crease where the page may have once been folded, but the printing remains clear and clean, and Frank Sinatra's signature is bold and bright; the last page has a small amount of very light old staining; the rest of the inner pages are very nice - complete, tight, bright, clean and unmarked. Though coffee (perhaps from Sinatra's cup?) was spilled on the front cover, this screenplay remains solid and nice, with its Original Covers, and the Wonderful EARLY SIGNATURE of the Great FRANK SINATRA. VERY RARE FRANK SINATRA - TONY ROME SCREENPLAY, SIGNED BY SINATRA. Good

Isadora (Original screenplay for the 1968 film)

Universal City, CA: Universal Pictures, 1968. Draft British script for the 1968 film. A high spot for Vanessa Redgrave in the 1960s, a story that follows the life of the free spirited modern interpretive dancer Isadora Duncan. From Dan Pavlides at Allmovie: Trained in classical dance, Duncan shattered the traditional conformities in her art and her personal life. The film begins at the end of her life as she recalls the past while dictating her memoirs to her male secretary. Her uninhibited sexuality and insistence on personal freedom and expression shocked more conservative and narrow-minded patrons and audiences. She brought in elements of classic Greek dance during the height of the jazz age and had children in and out of wedlock. Married to sewing-machine heir Paris Singer (Jason Robards) and the Russian poet Sergei Essenin (Ivan Tchenko), her life was a rollercoaster ride of success and tragic failures. Two of her children drowned when her chauffeur left the car unattended and the vehicle plunged into a river. Duncan lived by her own rules, often shunned by the very people who had so passionately embraced her pioneering efforts in dance, women's liberation and free thinking. Redgrave was nominated for an Oscar for her performance. The film's locales are international and range from California to Europe and the Soviet Union. Shot on location in various places in England, Italy, France, and Eastern Europe. Red studio wrappers, with a die-cut title window in the British style. Title page present. 142 leaves, roneograph. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine, internally bound with two gold brads.

[Two Homemade Photo Albums]: E 6th St [and] The Grossman's East Chatham Building Book

New York. 1968-1971. Two tall octavo volumes. Unpaged. A few images loose or detached but all are present, very good or better. Homemade photo albums and journals made by Jill Grossman for her husband the noted publisher Richard Grossman. The Grossman's East Chatham Building Book (133 photographs, various sizes, both black and white and color, many captioned, hand-drawn map) photographically records and captions the construction of the Grossman's New York State House in East Chatham between 1968-1969, and is presented and dedicated to Richard by Jill in 1971. It shows the couple building the house: framing, raising walls, roofing, painting, gardening, gathering firewood, smoking pot, and generally living an idyllic country life. E 6th St (handpainted boards with applied handwritten title. 41 photographs, various sizes, both black and white and color, mostly uncaptioned, applied title page elements) is dated in 1970 (probably completed in 1971, as the final picture is dated on Christmas in 1970), shows a few images of their apartment but mostly concerns itself with scenes from New York's then-gritty streets, including images of the Fillmore East marquee, storefronts, a wall with layers of stripped posters, graffiti, posters advertising Bella Abzug's Congressional Campaign, and street characters. Richard Grossman made his living and his fame as a small publisher, publishing books such as Ralph Nadar's Unsafe At Any Speed and Helen Hanff's 84 Charing Cross Road. The creator of the books, Jill Kneerim, was Grossman's second wife (later divorced) and is a respected literary agent. These charming handmade books capturing a brief but interesting moment in time in the life of the liberal New York publisher. .

Oktober 1466/1467/1469, wahrscheinlich in Rotterdam; † 11./12. 2001: A Space Odyssey (Original oversize double weight photograph from the 1968 film)

Beverly Hills, CA: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer [MGM], 1968. Vintage oversize borderless double weight black and white set design photograph from the 1968 film. Shown is a sample interior from the space station featured near the beginning of the film, the "Hilton" sign marking Kubrick's groundbreaking use of ordinary commerce in a futuristic context. The director's sprawling, science fiction epic traces the evolution of human intelligence under the influence of an unspecified alien force. The film's high scientific accuracy, coupled with bleeding-edge special effects and minimal use of dialogue, make "2001" universally recognized as one of the most influential films ever made. Winner of an Academy Award for Best Special Effects, and nominated for three others including Best Director. Set variously in the desert, in space, in deep space, and on the astral plane. Shot on location in Scotland, England, Arizona, and Utah. 11 x 14 inches. Near Fine. National Film Registry.

np [New York City]: (Boke Press), (1968). First printing. Wraps. Very good. 4to. Side-stapled wraps. Offset du- plicated and printed tête-bêche with onion-skin end-papers. One of 500 un- numbered copies. Very good overall. INSCRIBED by both Warsh and Waldman to Izzy Young. Also includes a TLS from Waldman to Young, approx. 85 words dat- ed May 29th, 1968. In part: “IÂ’m afraid we might be getting a shack in Maine or something - The Berrigans have already left & so things have quieted down a bit, but St. Marks Place is really get- ting to our nerves.” Young was a central figure throughout the 1960s NYC music and literary scenes. He founded the Folklore Center, produced Dylan's first concert in 1961 (Dylan even wrote a song for/about him, "Talking Folklore Center"), and was close to Sanders, helping to print several titles from from his Fuck You Press on the mimeo machine at the Center. Handsome collaboration from Waldman and Warsh, with covers designed by Joe Brainard, published by BrainardÂ’s press, and with a warm as- sociation. Warsh has written of this book: “I like this book [...] because of JoeÂ’s covers, and because of the format. Anne and I had just married, and this was his gift” (Schlesinger and Birmingham 2). YOUNG JAPAN: Yokohama and Yedo A Narrative of the Settlementand the City from th

Tokyo 1968, Oxford Univ. Blue cloth, very good, 2 vols. 418+. 449p., introduction by Grace Fox. Reprint of the 1883 New. York edition, 1 color illustration, 14 x 22.5 cm.,as new set. unclipped dj. in mylar protectors, excellent, flawless copy.. A MOST IMPORTANT EARLY BRITISH PRIMARY RESOURCE ON JAPAN An important primary source, written by the former editor of the "Japan Herald," the "Japan Gazette," "Far East," "Nisshin Shinjishi" among several other publications, the author was especially qualified in reporting the news. This current work is his most exhaustive account of both foreign and Japanese activities in Yokohama from its early opening in 1858 back to 1789. * During this 21 year Period, history was made, for Japan was now open to the West, and the flow of ship and goods made Japan aware of her backwardness. Printed in Yokohama at the author's private printing office, this work covers the author's personal observations of the arrival of Lord Elgin, Mr. Alcock, Japanese experiences with foreigners, murdered Russians, assassinations of foreigners, the murder of Mr. Henry Heusken, Mr. Oliphant and rebel Satsuma forces, Ohara Mission, account of Choshu forts cannon attacks upon foreign vessels, Sir Harry Parks, life in Yokohama, trade, start of "Japan Times," Chamber of Commerce, &c. * This work also covers "The King of Liu-kiu's own Story. * Perhaps the most comprehensive early resource on Yokohama & foreigners there done during this period. * All editions were identical in this aspect, and the contents are identical. A contemporary insight to Yokohama life. ALWAYS RARE ! * NOTE ON THE PUBLISHER, PRINTING LOCATION OF THIS WORK: On the verso of the title page it states: Vol.1: "Printed at the Private Printing Office of the Author, No.16, Yokohama, Japan." . Vol. 2: "Printed at the "Japan Gazette" Office, no.70, Main Street, Yokohama, Japan." . While the title page states at the bottom, "London, Trubner & Co., Yokohama, Kelly & Co 1880, 1881" this book was only published in Yokohama, but distributed by Trubner in London. The publisher "Kelly" is referring to a later change in that publisher's name to "Kelly & Walsh." . Regardless of the above irregularities, the book was clearly privately printed in Yokohama at John R. Black's office. A very rare and early Yokohama printing in English. *** Color scans can be sent by email. Sixth New York Film Festival (Original serigraph poster, one of 144 signed by Pearson)

New York: Lincoln Center / List Art Poster and Print Program, 1968. Original serigraph designed by artist Henry Pearson for the Sixth New York Film Festival, held at Lincoln Center on September 17-28, 1968. One of 144 copies (this being No. 138) SIGNED and NUMBERED by Pearson. The New York Film Festival was founded in 1963 by Amos Vogel and Richard Roud, and to this day serves as a major taste-maker for American cinephiles, bringing the best films from around the world by directors established, new, and forgotten. The 1968 festival began with Jiri Menzel's "Capricious Summer," concluded with Milos Forman's "The Fireman's Ball" and featured "The Boy with the Green Hair" by Joseph Losey and "They Live By Night" by Nicholas Ray among its retrospective features. As influential and forward-thinking as the festival is, it is matched by its iconic poster designs. Developed by Vera List, a New York City art collector and philanthropist, the poster program commissioned some the most famous artist of the day to design posters that would function as much as art as advertisement. In addition to Pearson, artists who have designed posters for the festival include Larry Rivers, Saul Bass, Bruce Conner, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, Robert Rauschenberg, and Cindy Sherman. Amos Vogel (1921-2012) was one of the most influential cineastes in New York City. He is best known for his bestselling book "Film as a Subversive Art" (1974) and as the founder of the New York City avantgarde ciné-club Cinema 16 (1947-1963), where he was the first programmer to present films by Roman Polanski, John Cassavetes, Nagisa Oshima, Jacques Rivette and Alain Resnais as well as early and important screenings by American avant-gardists of the time like Stan Brakhage, Maya Deren, James Broughton, Kenneth Anger, Sidney Peterson, Bruce Conner, Carmen D'Avino and many others. In 1963, together with Richard Roud, he founded the New York Film Festival, and served as its program director until 1968. In 1973, Vogel started the Annenberg Cinematheque at the University of Pennsylvania and was eventually given a Chair for film studies at the Annenberg School for Communication, where he taught and lectured for two decades. Minor cracking to some of the titling, else Fine. Serigraph, 29.25 X 45 inches, linen backed and rolled. From the estate of New York Film Festival founder Amos Vogel.

Ink drawing of Charlie Chaplin a' la Vigo's "Zero de conduit," 1968

N.p.: N.p., 1968. Two color ink drawing of Charlie Chaplin in silhouette, titled "Chaplin a' la Vigo's 'Zero de conduit'" by noted radical caricaturist Robert Osborn. The title makes reference to French filmmaker Jean Vigo's 1933 film, "Zéro de conduite," and the drawing, unpublished, was a gift to Osborn's friend Amos Vogel, inscribed at the bottom left corner, "For Amos / 68." Accompanying the drawing is a 3-page note from Osborn to Vogel, executed in calligraphic style black ink, reading: "dear Amos / this, in gratitude for all you do for us. It is vastly appreciated. / Bob Osborn / 2 / P.S. / As I told you you do the whole cultural community a GREAT service / Take "Fairy Tale" - I'd never have seen it save for you. / Also that good Sue Salter has been VERY helpful.... & cheerful!" One of Osborn's last great exhibitions was devoted to Chaplin. Reviewing that show in The New York Times, art critic John Russell wrote: "Few people have a nimbler, wittier or more versatile way with pen and pencil than Robert Osborn." Osborn (1904-1994) was nothing if not the artist's artist. The New York Times obituary for him noted that his "sardonic and often savage drawings in books and magazines have arrested readers with their images of bloated power, violence and death. At the same time, he could be wittily ironic about society's pretensions, spoofing subjects like psychiatry, suburbanites and social climbing." He characterized himself as "a drawer" whose figures "seemed to come right out of my subconscious." Garry Trudeau called him "one of the very few masters of illustrative cartooning." Robert Motherwell wrote that his drawings were "so alive that they seemed to writhe on the page with an uninhibited energy .... Osborn's art is a call to responsible action." Motherwell was among those who compared Osborn's graphic work to that of Daumier, Goya, Saul Steinberg, as well as to the sculpture of Alexander Calder, who was a friend of Osborn's. Amos Vogel (1921-2012) was one of the most influential cineastes in New York City. New York: Grossman Publishers, 1968. First Edition. Slipcased. Near Fine/Near Fine. Henry Miller. Presentation with Self Portrait by the Author-Artist in black ink: Signed & with "Selbst Bildnis" [Self Portrait] written; 4to (8 3/4" by 11 1/4"), color frontispiece by the author plus 19 of his illustrations in full color; khaki cloth boards with white and orange lettering; photographic endpapers of Miller painting; dust jacket (unclipped); navy blue woven cloth-covered slipcase (9 1/8" by 12"); 117 pages + [2] List of Exhibitions & Colophon. Very Fine copy of this personally inscribed and embellished volume summarizing the author-artist's "lifelong experience in painting." Henry Miller (1891-1980) was an American writer well known for his innovations and departures from existing literary forms. His semi-autobiographical novels blended character study, social criticism, philosophical reflection, explicit language, sex, surrealist free association and mysticism. His most significant works are Tropic of Cancer (1934), Tropic of Capricorn (1939), and The Rosy Crucifixion trilogy (1949?-59), all based on his artistic life in New York and Paris. Due to charges of being pornographic, Miller's novels were banned in the United States until 1961. Dedication in ink on the fly leaf: "To Pierre / from his 'some times' painter / friend / Henry Miller 27/1/72." Full page Self-Portrait by Henry Miller on the same fly-leaf in black ink and signed. In addition to his literary abilities, Miller created or copied many watercolor paintings--often of an avant garde nature-- and wrote books on this field. He was a close friend of the French painter Grégoire Michonze. This volume also contains a suite of letters Miller wrote to Emil Schnellock, preiously published privately in 1944. It is estimated that Miller painted 2,000 watercolors during his life, and that 50 or more major collections of Miller?'s paintings exist.[ The Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin holds a selection of Miller's watercolors,[ as did the Henry Miller Museum of Art in machi City in Nagano, Japan, before closing in 2001.[ Miller's daughter Valentine placed some of her father's art for sale in 2005. Open and closed ends of slipcase have slight sunning. Dust jacket has a transparent protective sleeve and is Near Fine, except for a minor stain to the rear and penciled notation to price.

Lee Marvin and Jean Seberg on the set of "Paint Your Wagon" (1968)

Los Angeles: Paramount Pictures, 1968. Vintage oversize double weight candid photograph of Lee Marvin singing "Wanderin' Star" to Jean Seberg on the set of the Western musical "Paint Your Wagon" in 1968. Shot, struck, and mounted by the film's still photographer, Bob Willoughby. Willoughby has written on the verso in holograph pencil: "Lee Marvin & Jean Seberg / 'Paint Your Wagon.'" With two of Willoughby's ASMP rubber stamps (Pacific Palisades and New York addresses) on the verso. Full provenance available. After studying with Saul Bass at the Kann Institute of Art in Los Angeles, Willoughby began working as a photographer for magazines such as "Life," "Look," and "Harper's Bazaar" in the late 1940s. It was while on assignment covering Judy Garland in a "A Star is Born" that Willoughby's ability to capture his subjects' spontaneity, humor, and vulnerability, resulting in images that were far different from more traditional film stills, came to Hollywood's attention and earned him his first "Life" magazine cover. Willoughby spent the next 20-plus years working as a set photographer for every major studio, documenting some of most important films of the era and creating intimate portraits of some of Hollywood's greatest celebrities. Technically and stylistically innovative, Willoughby built the first remote radio-controlled cameras used on film sets, pioneered the use of the "silent blimp" for 35mm cameras, and created brackets to mount his cameras directly over the movie cameras to capture the same images. Willoughby moved his family to County Cork, Ireland in 1972, working on only a handful of films through the late 1970s and early 1980s, though he would continue to photograph, exhibit, and publish books for the remainder of his life. The stills in this collection were given by Willoughby to friends in Kilbrittain, Ireland just prior to his move to Vence, France in 1989, where he would remain until his death in 2009. Perhaps more than any other photographer, Willoughby is responsible for creating the the look of mid-century celebrity and moviemaking in the popular imagination, with his images printed in magazines literally every week of his career. But beyond being prolific, Willoughby's legacy rests with his ability capture the essence of the actors he photographed, as well as the films with which those photographs were associated. As Sydney Pollack said in his introduction to Willoughby's autobiography, "Sometimes a filmmaker gets a look at a photograph taken on his own set and sees the 'soul' of his film in one still photograph. It's rare, but it happens. It happened to me in 1969, the first time I looked at the work of Bob Willoughby during the filming of "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" Willoughby's photographs are in the permanent collections of ten museums, including The National Portrait Galleries in Washington, DC and London, the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, The Museum of Modern Art, and The Tate Modern. 9 x 13.25 inches. Near Fine. Pitt 3009.

Candy (Original screenplay for the 1968 film, copy belonging to director Frank Perry)

New York: Francis Productions, Inc, 1968. First Draft script for the 1968 film. Copy belonging to Frank Perry, with his name in red holograph ink on the title page. Perry considered making the film, but it was ultimately directed by Christian Marquand. This draft is credited solely to Southern, though Buck Henry was ultimately given full credit for the adaptation from the novel by Southern and Mason Hoffenberg. In her memoir, "Trippin' with Terry Southern: What I Think I Remember," Gail Gerber details at some length the tangle of legal problems over the publication of "Candy" in the US and abroad. Publication was poorly controlled, resulting in numerous pirated editions and lawsuits involving Maurice Girodias (Olympia Press), Putnam, and small US paperback publishers such as Lancer, Greenleaf, and Brandon House. She notes, "Despite the popularity of the novel, Hollywood was always leery about getting involved with properties that have 'clouded title,' so it was no surprise that Frank Perry gave up on the idea of directing the film version of 'Candy,' much to Terry's disappointment." Black studio wrappers, with title (CANDY) and Studio Duplicating Service address in yellow. Title page present, undated, noted as First Draft, with credits for screenwriters Southern and Mason Hoffenberg. 136 leaves, mechanincally reproduced,. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good plus, bound with two gold brads.
