Der Prolog der hebräischen Bibel. Der literar- und theologiegeschichtliche Diskurs der Urgeschichte (Genesis 1-11) [Gebundene Ausgabe] von Andreas Schüle (Autor) Reihe/Serie Abhandlungen zur Theologie des Alten und Neuen Testaments ; 86

TVZ Theologischer Verlag, 1968. Complete in two octavo volumes: xii,84; xxii,317,[1]pp. 77 Dream Songs: Publisher's navy blue calico cloth, spine lettered in gilt, top edge stained pink, pale yellow end papers; white illustrated dust jacket dust jacket printed in black, yellowish-brown, and deep pink, and priced $3.95. About Fine (one tip bumped), in about Fine jacket. His Toy: Publisher's navy blue calico cloth, spine lettered in gilt, top edge stained pink, pale yellow laid end papers, typographic dust jacket printed in green, yellow and purplish pink on black background, priced $6.50. Signed by Berryman on front flyleaf and inscribed: "To Joseph Hass / John Berryman [underscored]." (Haas was the Chicago Daily News reporter who interviewed Berryman on several occasions, as well as, perhaps, more famously, Bob Dylan.) About Fine (slight fading to topstain); About Fine jacket (slight toning and wrinkling to rear panel's upper edge, trivial spots lower edge). Stefanik A11.1.a and A16.1.a. Fine- ¶ In the mid-1950s, Berryman began an intensive written analysis of his dreams that "led him toward a new sort of poem, a short, jazzy lyric spoken by a persona, or sometimes by a number of voices. The new poems, which would eventually become The Dream Songs, explored deep recesses of the unconscious, Oedipal tendencies, intense feelings of loss, . . . By the early 1960s he had a suitcase of these new poems, written primarily in eight-line stanzas and spoken by a character named Henry, whom Berryman later described as a white middle-aged man who has suffered an 'irreversible loss.' . . . Berryman put a substantial group of the poems together and published them in 1964 as 77 Dream Songs. . . . Four years later, he published a larger collection of Dream Songs titled His Toy, His Dream, His Rest, bringing the total number published to 385. . . . The themes of The Dream Songs are many, including: love, death, fame, history, politics, and the individual in relation to society. The sequence includes a number of memorable elegies for fellow poets, and remarkable individual poems brooding over the death of a father. However, it is the voice and character of Henry, and the unique style of the poems, driven by Henry's humour, depression, and strange associations, which continue to fascinate readers." (Literary Encyclopedia) Note: With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed.

DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? - DIRECTOR BERTRAM BERMAN'S COPY

Garden City: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1968. First Edition. First Printing. Octavo (21.5cm); light gray cloth, with titles stamped in gilt on spine; dustjacket; [6],210pp. Director Bertram Berman's copy, signed by him (in ink) along with his address at CBS on front endpaper, directly beneath the rubber-stamped address of Raritan Productions, Inc. Base of spine gently nudged, touch of offset along hinges due to binders glue, else a fresh, very Near Fine copy. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $3.95), lightly edgeworn, with subtle fading to green lettering along spine, and a small triangular chip along upper edge of front panel, discreetly and archivally mended on verso; Very Good+. Arguably Dick's best-known and widely-read work, a novel set in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco, where Earth's life has been damaged by nuclear war and where most animal species are endangered or extinct. This copy from the library of filmmaker Bertram Berman, formerly a program executive and producer with CBS, who in 1968 purchased an option on Dick's just-released novel. Dick, clearly thrilled about the prospect of a film adaptation of one of his works, sent a lengthy letter to Berman full of ideas about how the book could be translated to film. Dick provided Berman with suggestions on everything from casting (Gregory Peck for Deckard; Dean Stockwell for Jack Isidore, et al.), tone, plotting...even down to the particular sound the weapons would make. And, of course, "There could be room for more sex." Berman's project failed to get off the ground, and his option expired in the mid-1970's, opening the way for other parties and, eventually, Ridley Scott. The full text of Dick's May 21, 1968 letter was published in The Philip K. Dick Society Newsletter #18 (August, 1988). A compelling association copy of a major film source book, one which is set to captivate a new generation of viewers with this years Blade Runner 2049 sequel. Levack 12a.

Unique Photo-Album Presented in Friendship to Ambassador and Mrs. Rolf Pauls by the President of the Weizmann Institute of Science and Mrs. Meyer W. Weisgal [SIGNED]

Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot 1968 - Oblong Quarto. 28 plates with 39 silver gelatin photographs (5 x 7"), all tipped onto black card stock with tissue guards, all titled in white ink under the photographs. Original padded black leather album bound with leather strings and mounted, decorative stamped metal plate bolted to cover with turquoise ornamentation at corners. Black leather pocket with signed typed card sewn to inside black silk cover: "Dear Lilo and Rolf, May our bonds remain closely knit despite the distance that will now separate us," signed in two hands "Yours Meyer and Shirley." Dr. Rolf Friedemann Pauls was the first German Ambassador to Israel and served in this capacity from 1965 to 1968.The photo-album is divided into two sections, one documents the campus of the Weizmann Institute of Science, the second documents four dignitaries during visits on the occasion of the bestowal of Honorary Fellowships by the Weizmann Institute of Science. The first part containing 23 of the photographs showing various institutes on campus, e.g. the Ullmann Institute of Life Sciences, the Dannie N. Heineman Accelerator Laboratory and the Tandem van de Graaf Accelerator, the Michael Institute of Nuclear Science, the Daniel Sieff Research Institute, the Wix Auditorium and Central Library, the Wolfson Institute of Experimental Biology, the Final Resting Place of Chaim and Vera Weizmann, and a number of other institutes and residential areas. The second section contains 16 photographs divided into three parts: Konrad Adenauer's visit in 1966 with seven photographs showing the German Chancellor with Mrs. Chaim Weizmann (1), Dr. Nahum Goldmann and Meyer W. Weisgal (2), Meyer W. Weisgal (3), Adenauer at the Weizmann grave (4), Adenauer's response to his honorary Fellowship Award in the Wix Auditorium (5 and 6), and Adenauer with Meyer W. Weisgal and President of the Weizmann Institute Abba Eban (7). German Chancellor Ludwig Erhardt in 1967 with five photographs, two of them with Ambassador Pauls: the greeting by Meyer W. Weisgal (1), Weisgal reading out the Chancellor's Honorary Fellowship Citation (2), Erhardt's response in the Wix Auditorium (3), Erhardt with the head of the Dannie Heineman Laboratory and Ambassador Pauls (4), and Erhardt and Pauls at the grave of Chaim and Vera Weizmann (5). Experimental nuclear physicist Wolfgang Gentner in 1965, prior director of the Synchrocyclotron Department at CERN and the Max Planck Institute of Nuclear Physics at Heidelberg, with four photographs: with Meyer W. Weisgal and Abba Eban (1), with Gentner's response to his Honorary Fellowship (2), Gentner with the incased scroll (3) and Gentner with Ambassador Pauls (4). The Weizmann Institute is a public multidisciplinary research university in Rehovot, Israel. It was founded as the Daniel Sieff Research Institute in 1934. When Chaim Weizmann became President of the State of Israel in 1949, the institute was renamed the Weizmann Institute of Science in his honor. Ambassador Rolf Friedemann Pauls was the son of a Protestant clergyman. Pauls became a career officer in the infantry of the Wehrmacht. Due to a serious injury while the commanding officer of a company in Russia Pauls lost his left arm. In 1944 he was awarded the Knight's Cross. According to General Hans Speidel, who belonged to the inner circle of the conspirators in the raid to assassinate Hitler on July 20, 1944, Pauls was part of the plan but escaped arrest due to the silence of others. At first Pauls appeared to be an inappropriate choice for the post of Ambassador to Israel and his inauguration on August 19, 1965 was met by counter-demonstrations. Paul's tenure was generally judged as successful. From 1968-1973 Pauls was appointed to the post of Ambassador to the United States, after that to China from 1973-1976 and to NATO from 1976-1980. In the mid-1950s, Berryman began an intensive written analysis of his dreams that "led him toward a new sort of poem, a short, jazzy lyric spoken by a persona, or sometimes by a number of voices. However, it is the voice and character of Henry, and the unique style of the poems, driven by Henry's humour, depression, and strange associations, which continue to fascinate readers."
