Finian's Rainbow (Original screenplay for the 1947 film)

Burbank: Warner Brothers / Seven Arts, 1967. Final Script for the 1968 film, based on the 1947 musical by E.Y. Harburg and Fred Saidy (and written for the screen by them). Working copy, with occasional holograph markings throughout the text in pencil and colored pencil, though the original use of the script is not known. & & Warner Brothers optioned the musical shortly after its premiere in 1947, but Harburg and Saidy were unwilling to tone down the racial satire to fit studio demands, holding out until the option was about to expire and Warner agreed to a script with only minimal changes twenty years later. Coppola was an odd choice to direct, with his realistic, New Hollywood Cinema approach to filmmaking at odds with the fantastical nature of the material, and the results were decidedly mixed, despite a widely-loved performance by Clark. & & The original Broadway production opened at the 46th Street Theater on January 10, 1947, ran for 725 performances and won the 1947 Tony Awards for the Best Actor (David Wayne) as well as Music Direction and Choreography. The film was nominated for Best Sound and Best Score. & & Yellow studio wrappers, stamped FINAL on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 59 and dated June 21, 1967. Distribution page present, with receipt intact. Title page present, with credits for screenwriters-playwrights Harburg and Saidy and composer Burton Lane. 130 leaves, mimeograph, with blue revision pages throughout, dated variously between 3/10/67 and 9/15/67. Raised bands stamped in gilt. Edges of boards lightly bumped in some volumes and some light rubbing to the rear board of vol 1. Deaccessioned from a special collections library with their ex-libris on front pastedown of each volume. Limited to 1000 numbered copies, this being #270. A fantastic facsimile of the 12 volume French edition of Blaeu's le Grand Atlas, originally published in 1663 in Amsterdam. This faithful facsimile contains all the original maps, plans and in-text drawings, and many of the maps are reproduced in colour. Blaeu's atlas was a monumental production and was intended to be part of a larger work containing maps of ocean and the heavens. Although only the parts included in the facsimile here were published, they were still the largest and most expensive work published in the 17th century. A beautiful facsimile in a simulated period binding..

1200 gr. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
