Peter O'Toole, Katharine Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins, and Timothy Dalton on the set of "The Lion in Winter" (1967)

N.p., N.p. 1967 - Vintage oversize double weight photograph of Peter O'Toole, Katharine Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins, and Timothy Dalton hosting a feast in a scene from "The Lion in Winter". Shot, struck, and mounted by the film's still photographer, Bob Willoughby. The photographer has written at the top of the verso, in holograph pencil: "B.W.-16." Also with Willoughby's ASMP rubber stamp showing his New York address, a reference number, and a 1967 copyright date. Full provenance available.Winner of three Academy Awards, including Best Screenplay, and nominated for four others, including Best Picture, Best Actor (O'Toole), and Best Director. Shot on location in France, Ireland, and Wales. After studying with Saul Bass at the Kann Institute of Art in Los Angeles, Willoughby began working as a photographer for magazines such as "Life," "Look," and "Harper's Bazaar" in the late 1940s. It was while on assignment covering Judy Garland in a "A Star is Born" that Willoughby's ability to capture his subjects' spontaneity, humor, and vulnerability, resulting in images that were far different from more traditional film stills, came to Hollywood's attention and earned him his first "Life" magazine cover. Willoughby spent the next 20-plus years working as a set photographer for every major studio, documenting some of most important films of the era and creating intimate portraits of some of Hollywood's greatest celebrities. Technically and stylistically innovative, Willoughby built the first remote radio-controlled cameras used on film sets, pioneered the use of the "silent blimp" for 35mm cameras, and created brackets to mount his cameras directly over the movie cameras to capture the same images.Willoughby moved his family to County Cork, Ireland in 1972, working on only a handful of films through the late 1970s and early 1980s, though he would continue to photograph, exhibit, and publish books for the remainder of his life. The stills in this collection were given by Willoughby to friends in Kilbrittain, Ireland just prior to his move to Vence, France in 1989, where he would remain until his death in 2009.Perhaps more than any other photographer, Willoughby is responsible for creating the the look of mid-century celebrity and moviemaking in the popular imagination, with his images printed in magazines literally every week of his career. But beyond being prolific, Willoughby's legacy rests with his ability capture the essence of the actors he photographed, as well as the films with which those photographs were associated. As Sydney Pollack said in his introduction to Willoughby's autobiography, "Sometimes a filmmaker gets a look at a photograph taken on his own set and sees the 'soul' of his film in one still photograph. It's rare, but it happens. It happened to me in 1969, the first time I looked at the work of Bob Willoughby during the filming of "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?"Willoughby's photographs are in the permanent collections of ten museums, including The National Portrait Galleries in Washington, DC and London, the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, The Museum of Modern Art, and The Tate Modern.9.5 x 7.5 inches.         The Normans in the South, and The Kingdom in the Sun. [The Normans in Sicily].

London: Longmans, Green, 1967-1970.. TWO SIGNED FIRST EDITIONS. Later re-published together in a single volume, 'The Normans in Sicily', (1992). Octavo, pp. xvi, 355; xv, 426. SIGNED by the author in black ink to each title page. Orange end-papers. In publisher's black cloth with gilt titles to spine. Both vols. with original pictorial dust jackets. Slight reading lean to each vol.; very light spotting to end-papers of first vol. Minor chipping to head and tail of jacket spine to first vol. Exceptionally bright clean jackets. Very good overall. Viscount Norwich is the son of Conservative politician Duff Cooper. He began a long career as a writer and amateur historian after leaving the Diplomatic Service in 1964. These are his first and third published monographs (not counting 'Mount Athos', 1966, which he wrote with Reresby Sitwell), which constituted the first English-language historical survey of the Norman kingdom of Sicily. Either one of these landmark publications is rare in first edition, especially so signed, and are hardly ever seen together. It is particularly apt that we can offer them for sale this year, shortly after the publication of Norwich's new book on Sicily, and during the British Museum's exhibition 'Sicily: Culture and Conquest.'

International Design Award (1997). Er wurde zum Ehrenmitglied der Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts berufen (1995) und erhielt den Ehrendoktortitel des Royal College of Art in London (1997). Seine Arbeiten sind in allen großen internationalen Museen vertreten, u. a. im Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York und in der Neuen Sammlung in München. Hans J. Wegner starb im Januar 2007 im Alter von 92 Jahren in Dänemark» (Carl Hansen & Son). 1800 gr. Schlagworte: Architektur - Innenarchitektur, Design [Attributes: Soft Cover]

Impaginazione di Michele Provinciali. 4to. pp. 342. Perfetto (Mint). Prima edizione (First edition).

Nedeln - Kraus Reprint Ltd 1967 - A scarce reprint of this Calendar of State Papers from during the reign of Edward VI to James I, complete in twelve volumes. The volumes here are facsimile reprints of those published between 1856 and 1872by Her Majesty's Stationery Office and offer a detailed and rare insight into the workings of government, monarchy and military during the eras concerned. Each volume contains a preface offering information about the period. A important set of historical documents. Condition: In cloth binding with gilt detailing.         Official document drafted by the California State Legislature being a "Resolution relating to memorializing John Coltrane".

[Sacramento:] California State Legislature, 28 July 1967 - Folio (460 x 282 mm). Framed, mounted and glazed within the original frame (the patterning of which echoes the typographical border surrounding the document), overall size 677 x 500 mm. In excellent condition. A quite remarkable document issued by the California State Legislature (House Resolution No. 477) a mere 11 days after Coltrane's death in Huntington Hospital, Long Island, on 17 July 1967 at the age of 40. He is buried at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York. The resolution passed by the legislature remarks that the Members officially "express their deepest sorrow to the bereaved widow of this musical genius, John Coltrane. [and] that the Chief Clerk of the Assembly be hereby directed to transmit a suitably prepared copy of this resolution to the widow of John Coltrane, Mrs. Alice Coltrane". Jazz and bureaucracy are not comfortable bedfellows and the piece is unintentionally comic as the State Legislature's heartfelt but grandiloquent wording in highlighting the key moments from Coltrane's career is prefaced by a thundering "Whereas", as in "Whereas, 'Trane,' as he was known to fellow musicians, was born in Hamlet, North Carolina." From the collection of the distinguished jazz critic Ralph Gleason, with accompanying typed letter signed from the office of George N. Zenovich, Majority Floor Leader in the California Legislature, to Gleason enclosing the document (dated 29 August 1967, official paper); and accompanied by a 4-page press release issued by ABC Records (the parent company of Impulse!) relating to Coltrane's death.
