Truman Capote
Hamish Hamilton. fine in good dust jacket. Truman Capote (1966) 'In Cold Blood', UK first edition, first printing, published by Hamish Hamilton in 1966. Signed on the ffep by Capote with an inscription: "for Jim Oldroyd with all good wishes [Truman Capote]". We are not sure who Jim Oldroyd was, but a search indicates that he was a mathematician. In addition the buyer will receive a US first edition, first printing copy of the book. Condition: the signed UK first edition copy is in fine condition with no flaws whatsoever. The dust jacket is price clipped and has a tear on the front panel. Dust jackets, however, can be replaced, whereas this is the only signed UK first edition copy currently on the market. Inscribed copies trade at a hefty premium as Capote's signature has been subject to forgeries. The US first edition copy is in near fine condition, and the only flaws are a new price written over the printed price of 4 79 over the printed original price of USD 5.95 (see last picture), and the previous owner's name written in very thin ink on the half-title page (barely visible). 'In Cold Blood' was first published in four parts in 'The New Yorker' beginning with the September issue. Random House published the first hardback issue in January 1966. The book is considered a landmark non-fiction book, or 'non-fiction novel'. It was nominated for the Pulitzer but failed to win. The story of the quadruple murder in Holcomb, Kansas was researched together with the help of 'Mockingbird' author Harper Lee. It was adapted for cinema for the first time in 1967, and once more as a TV-m … [Click Below for Full Description]

A beautiful, fine copy in a near fine dust jacket, with price of $10.00 and 75s on front flap; jacket with a couple of small scuffs. Text was divided into two parts: Part One, Theory and Organization of Complicated Automata. Part Two, The Theory of Automata: Construction, Reproduction, Homogeneity. John Von Neumann's unfinished manuscripts are here edited by Burks and present Von Neumann's final concept of the theory of automata. Dr. Von Neumann was popular at cocktail parties - fellow scientists would give him complex math problems; Von Neumann would work them in his head, as he hopped from one foot to the other. Housed in a custom made quarter leather over blac cloth clamshell box. Ed Ruscha: Editions 1959-1999, B4. Roth pages 182-185. Open Book pages 198-201. Parr and Badger Volume Two, 142-3. Architect Peter Hoyt's copy with his ownership signature on the inside. Peter Hoyt was part of the Learning from Las Vegas team that studied under Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown and eventually produced one of the most important and controversial books of architectural theory published in the twentieth century. When the team went to Las Vegas in the fall of 1968, they flew first to Los Angeles and met with Ed Ruscha along with many other LA notables by way of Esther McCoy. The Venturis felt that the way Ruscha was looking at the LA landscape would be helpful in their understanding of the Las Vegas strip. They even hired a helicopter to photograph Las Vegas from the air, looking at patterns of use in much the same manner as Ruscha approached photographing Los Angeles. Ruscha's books on gas stations, parking lots and other spaces were very important influences on the visual aspects of the Learning From Las Vegas study. [Attributes: First Edition]

Unsigned proof, as all proofs in this series, other than the frontispiece.A superb proof on Japon paper specially made for The Story of Exodus, published in 1966, for which Chagall made 24 hors-text lithographs printed by Mourlot. An exceedingly rare original proof on Japon paper, the most attractive and best for color lithographs. Fernand Mourlot was undoubtedly the finest lithographic printer of the 20th century and was thus the friend and printer to the leading artists of his day. "Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miró, Braque, Dubuffet, Leger, Giacometti...added to their own expression and contemporary art a new field of research. With Mourlot, and thanks to him, lithography acquired both a personality and a future" (Pierre Cabanne, in Cinquante annees de lithographie).Having already printed two volumes of the Bible illustrated by Chagall, Mourlot contributed to the artist's lithographic training in the 1950s. It was during this period that Chagall began to visit Mourlot's workshop regularly in order to learn lithographic techniques and that he developed bonds of friendship with the staff of the workshop, most notably Charles Sorlier. It was thus at the peak of his power … [Click Below for Full Description]

Tennessee Williams
Very Good / No Jacket. New York: New Directions, 1966. First Edition. Soft cover. Very Good. Item #001996 New York: New Directions, 1966. First New Directions Paperback Edition ("First Printing" stated). SIGNED by the author "Another small contribution to Dakin[s?] campaign. Peace & Love, Tennessee 1972." Covers toned along edges with a small dent to bottom front corner near spine and some general smudging (amplified a bit by lights in photo, but more muted in person). Spine is straight and unbroken. Opens easily to after first page gathering, but binding is sound. Pages unmarked. Between 1972 and 1980, Williams's younger brother Dakin ran three unsuccessful campaigns for the US Senate and one for Governor. Of The Glass Menagerie, his favorite of his brother's plays, he said in an interview "Every word is so beautiful and right...And of course, Amanda Wingfield is our mother Miss Edwina, beyond any doubt. I used to hear those lines of dialogue every morning as a child: 'Rise and shine!' And her talk about gentleman callers is right there in the play. 'I understand the art of conversation,' she'd say. What she didn't understand was how to stop; she talked constantly. But because he drew the character from her, Tom gave Mother the 'Glass Menagerie' royalties, and she willed them to me. I'm living off them now, instead of the kindness of strangers." While the inscription and the signature's familiar lack of surname lead us to guess this copy was given to Dakin, we have not been able to determine so conclusively. Evans, Walker
Houghton Mifflin/ The Riverside Press, Boston/ Cambridge, 1966. First edition, first printing, with erratum slip. With an introduction by James Agee. Evans, in parallel with his FSA photos from rural Alabama (Let Us Now Praise Famous Men), took a series at the opposite end of America: New York's subway riders. With some tears and rubbing to the extremities of the dust-wrapper; very good. Parr & Badger 253; Roth 180. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Neumann, Robert, Schriftsteller (1897-1975).
1966. Zusammen 3 SS. 4to. An Gerhard Bormann, Oberstaatsanwalt i. [Click Below for Full Description]
