Walker evans
WALKER EVANS: MESSAGE FROM THE INTERIOR. NY: The Eakins Press, 1966. First Softcover Edition. Signed and inscribed by the photographer. Very Rare. An original Signed copy of the finest and most influential photographic books of the 1960s. Walker Evans (1903-1975) was the iconic American Social Realist photographer and could be considered one of America's greatest photographers. Much of Evans' work from the FSA period uses the large-format 8x10 in view camera, which when used directly in front of a subject would create the appearance of a dispassionate viewpoint. In 1966, "Message From The Interior" set a new standard for photographic reproduction and presentation: the twelve large sheet-fed gravure images, measuring about 14 inches by 14 inches, have been simply and beautifully printed in velvet-black ink. The photographs were taken between 1931 and 1962, from Maine to Alabama. The profound afterword by John Szarkowski is a milestone of appreciation for Evans's work. This book has been Signed & Inscribed by Walker Evans on the front-free endpaper "to Alan Trachtenberg from Walker Evans, affectionately. New Haven 11/23/71". The men were friends and colleagues teaching at Yale University. This large folio-sized book in the original stiff paper wraps is complete and unrestored, but it was at one time exposed to moisture, causing light rippling to the paper, some discoloration to covers and endpapers, and slight discolored spots on the edges of a few plates, not affecting any of the images. There are no writing or markings, no torn or missing pages, and with each plate protecte … [Click Below for Full Description]

Clark Ashton Smith
Indianapolis: Privately Printed, 1966. Indianapolis: Privately Printed. Indianapolis, Privately Printed, 1966. Limited Edition. Hardback. 2/2 Copies. Limited edition compiled and collated from the files of early Weird Tales and Strange Tales magazines by William S. Johnson and William R. Griffiths. The present copy is copy number two (of two). Offered with an invoice from the binder (dated 1966) and a card from Griffiths to Johnson with a short hand-written (by Griffiths) Symons poem. Xeroxed magazine pages, bound. The other copy is most likely bound differently as the invoice from the binder notes only a single copy being bound. Locke argues, in Spectrum, for the classification of the present item as a book (as distinct from simply a bunch of photocopied pieces), and should be classified as such within Smith / Weird Tales bibliographies. [Locke, Spectrum, vol two, p101]. An interesting piece. Collects 22 short pieces from the two magazines, and a preface of sorts. [7255, Hyraxia Books]. . Fine. Hardback. Limited Edition. 1966.

Ed Ruscha
1966. Condition: Very Good. First edition. First Printing of 1,000 copies with the extra two inch flap at the end. A very good copy in white printed wraps with some darkening to the spine; foil covered slipcase is lightly worn with a few small splits, else very good. Housed in a custom made quarter leather over blac cloth clamshell box. Ed Ruscha: Editions 1959-1999, B4. Roth pages 182-185. Open Book pages 198-201. Parr and Badger Volume Two, 142-3. Architect Peter Hoyt's copy with his ownership signature on the inside. Peter Hoyt was part of the Learning from Las Vegas team that studied under Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown and eventually produced one of the most important and controversial books of architectural theory published in the twentieth century. When the team went to Las Vegas in the fall of 1968, they flew first to Los Angeles and met with Ed Ruscha along with many other LA notables by way of Esther McCoy. The Venturis felt that the way Ruscha was looking at the LA landscape would be helpful in their understanding of the Las Vegas strip. They even hired a helicopter to photograph Las Vegas from the air, looking at patterns of use in much the same manner as Ruscha approached photographing Los Angeles. Ruscha's books on gas stations, parking lots and other spaces were very important influences on the visual aspects of the Learning From Las Vegas study. [Attributes: First Edition]

Sinatra, Frank; Ed McMahon, Nancy Sinatra (starring); Nelson Riddle, Gordon Jenkins (musical directors); Dwight Hemion (director); Sheldon Keller, Glenn Wheaton (screenwriters)
Columbia Broadcasting System [CBS], Los Angeles. Final Draft script for the 1966 television special. Ed McMahon's presentation copy, with his name in gilt on the front board. McMahon served as the show's announcer. The second of five annual television specials by Frank Sinatra, after his departure from Columbia and the founding of Reprise Records saw him more in control of his career and revitalized artistically. In the same way he did with his now-legendary Reprise recordings, Sinatra up-ended the whole idea of a 1960s television special by focusing the special's content entirely on performance. Nominated for nine Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Variety or Musical Program, winning one. Title page present, dated 6/3/66, noted as Final, with credits for producer and director Dwight Hemion, screenwriters Sheldon Keller and Glenn Wheaton, and associate producer Carolyn Raskin. 65 leaves, with last page of text numbered 58. Mimeograph, with undated blue revision pages. Pages Near Fine, lacking the wrappers, housed in a Very Good plus green faux leather covered spring binding. [Attributes: Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

Uelsmann, Jerry N.
Original b&w silver gelatin photograph, 6 13/16 inches H [ 17.3 cm.] x 5 inches W [12.7 cm.] Printed on a single weight, glossy photographic stock. Titled, dated Jan. 21, 1966, and signed by the photographer on the reverse of the unmounted image, with the following inscription: "Dear Barbara Morgan - Enclosed you will find a copy of my 'Post-Visualization' paper - I hope you find it interesting - Thank you for your kind invitation to visit next time I'm in the N.Y.C area. Warm regards - Jerry N. Uelsmann. P.S. Should you ever find yourself in Florida - I would enjoy having you visit - and perhaps informally meet some of my students-" This image is one of the very first that the photographer made using a montage of separate negatives. The subject is Jack Welpott, the noted photographer, who along with Jerry N. Uelsmann, were the first to receive M.F.A. degrees (1959) under Henry Holmes Smith at Indiana University. Although earlier photographers have used multiple negative printing to make montaged images, it is Uelsmann who is considered the master of this technique. This is one of the most widely know of Uelsmann's photographs and given its proximity to the date of the exposure, it may be considered a vintage print; coupled with a noted photographer as his model, and the presentation of this to another iconic photographer, who also utilized the montaged image upon occasion, this is a fine and desirable print. 1966. Father Charles E. Coughlin was an American Canadian Roman Catholic Priest born in Hamilton, Ontario and ordained to the priesthood in Toronto in 1916 with the Basilian Fathers. He taught at Assumption College, also operated by the Basilians, in Windsor, Ontario. When his religious order was re-organized in 1923, he moved to Detroit. In 1926, he ministered at the Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak, Michigan, and began his radio broadcasts, reaching an audience of 30 million people. In 1934, he organized the National Union for Social Justice (later the Christian Front) through which he argued that neither capitalism nor democracy had a future in America.
