Dinny Gordon Junior [with] Original Dust Jacket Art

Macrae Smith, Philadelphia 1964 - Original gouache and pencil cover art for Dinny Gordon Junior by illustrator Evelyn Copeman depicting the winning teen ingenue smiling up at an all-American boy. The image measures approximately 7" x 8.5" (on 13" x 20" artist board). It is accompanied by a clear overlay with the title and author's name affixed, a sheet of tissue paper with various notes for the printer, and additional blank sheet with a warning about handling the original art, once attached to the board by tape but now loose. The art is fine and bright; the other items showing some toning from the tape, along with a few spots and a couple of tears. It is accompanied by a fine third printing of the book in an else fine price-clipped dustwrapper. In the article Dinny Gordon: Proto-Feminist, that appeared in the March 2006 issue of the Journal of American Culture, writer Joyce Litton posits that Anne Emery's most beloved character, Dinny Gordon, who had aspirations of a nontraditional career and delayed marriage, was a transitional character between the portrayal of the 1950s female in family life and the more enlightened feminist of the mid-to-late 1960s. While it's a little hard to tell from the jacket art, this volume has Dinny confronting not only the typical teen problems such as liking two different boys and losing her job as a result of a shoplifting incident, but also confronting the prejudice of her friends when a Jewish family moves into her neighborhood. Take that, Gidget.

Plan of the Royal Group of Docks 1964. Royal Victoria Dock, Royal Albert Dock and George V Dock.

Printed by Cook Hammond & Kell Ltd. Mitcham and Westminster 1964 - Colour printed map (overall 57 x 104 cm.), dissected into 40 sections baked on linen and folding into original red rexine buttoned covers, titled in gilt. Ownership inscription of Herbert Lloyd, pro/pla 1964-1974. "Based upon Ordnance Survey Map.corrected to 31st March. 1964" The three docks collectively formed the largest enclosed docks in the world, with a water area of nearly 250 acres (1.0 km2) and an overall estate of 1,100 acres (4.5 km2). This is equivalent to the whole of central London from Hyde Park to Tower Bridge. The docks finally closed in 1981. London City Airport opened in 1988 on the quay between the Royal Albert Dock and the King George V dock and as we know the whole area has been and continues to be massively transformed. This map is a fine record of the end of an era. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

A President's Country. A Guide to the Hill Country of Texas.

Austin: Alcade Press,, 1964. With drawings by Mac Tatchell. Octavo. Original red leather presentation binding, titles to spine gilt, saddle vignette to front cover gilt, turn-ins gilt, pictorial endpapers. Housed in a custom red cloth slipcase. Illustrated throughout in black and white. Negligible rubbing to extremities; an excellent, bright copy. First edition, first printing. Presentation copy, inscribed by the Johnsons on title page, "To Clark and Marney Clifford with appreciation of a pleasant few days here together. Lady Bird & Lyndon B. Johnson, July 7, 1966." Clark Clifford (1906–1998) was a hugely influential Democratic advisor, holding the role of Counsel to the President during Truman's presidency. Having left this role in 1950 to practice law, Clifford remained a trusted advisor to subsequent Democratic presidents. In July 1966 the Johnsons were staying on their ranch in Texas, where, on 4 July 1966 Johnson had signed the influential Freedom of Information Act. Johnson announced in a press conference on 5 July that Clifford would be joining him there "to review intelligence matters with me, and will stay overnight here at the ranch". They were joined on 6 July by Secretary of Defence Robert McNamara (1916–2009), whom Clifford succeeded as Secretary of Defence in 1968. Clifford was crucial in halting what he described as the runaway train of Johnson's war in Vietnam and convinced the President to deny Pentagon requests for still more troops and to instead seek a negotiated settlement of the conflict. When asked, with regards to Vietnam, whether he was a hawk or a dove, he remarked, "I am not conscious of falling under any of those ornithological divisions". Jack Maguire, a journalist for Texas Parade Magazine and executive director of the Ex-Student's Association of University of Texas, was commissioned by Johnson in the hopes that this work would give readers a sense of the Texas Hill Country where Johnson grew up, and which was so important in shaping his character. The book includes chapters on the region's geology, plant and wildlife, architecture, indigenous peoples and settlers written by experts on the topics, including Henry Shuffler, W. W. Newcomb, Jr. and Peter Flawn. Uncommon inscribed in the leather presentation binding, with four copies traced at auction, none with such an important association.

The Beatles Story on Capitol Records, Parts One and Two (Slipcase Edition)

The Beatles Story on Capitol Records, Parts One and Two (Slipcase Edition) - Signed by Author Bruce Spizer and Capitol President, Alan Livingston - First Edition, Number 8 of 200.A beautiful copy of this great title by Bruce Spizer. Limited edition, number 8 of 200 of the deluxe set; offering a slipcase to store both volumes (Signed by the author Bruce Spizer and ex Capitol President, Alan Livingston), two posters and a further signature from Spizer in each of the books. (There is a short dedication written by Spizer in volume 1 - See pic below)The books and slipcase are in near mint condition and there are no obvious blemishes or marks. All I would say is that the cover text color is slightly different from one volume when compared to the other, however, these volumes were produced a few months apart and I can only assume the color difference is part of the original printing process. It is not due to direct light induced fading.HardcoverISBN 10: 0966264932 ISBN 13: 9780966264937Publisher: Four Ninety-Eight Productions, 2000The Beatles records in close-up, packed with details, anecdotes, facts you never knew before about them. The authentic stories of all recordings, wonderful wit and humour of the Beatles themselves in off-the-cuff press conferences and much more! From the Author:Compiling these books brought back wonderful memories. In addition to reading numerous trade journals, magazines and newspaper articles from the sixties, I listened to the music in its purist form by playing the records. Playing the early Capitol albums on my vintage 1964 Beatles turntable transported me back in time. The record player hummed and the records sometimes gave off a popping sound from vintage scratches, but this only enhanced the experience. "Meet The Beatles!" was the first album I purchased. I still have that album, complete with my name printed on a record store sticker placed on the back cover.Although I enjoy listening to the Beatles on CD, it is more of a sonic experience than a journey back in time. There is a certain thrill about holding a colourful 12" x 12" record jacket that no CD can ever hope to duplicate. Those Capitol singles and albums were the records of my childhood that I will always remember. For Americans growing up in the sixties, the Beatles on Capitol were the greatest.

Print]: Take It Easy But Take It!

      - Print or broadside. Approximately 14" x 19". Slate print, printed in silver-white on black textured rag paper. A little creasing at the corners of the textured paper, slight remnants from mounting on rear, else near fine. Number 17 of 500 copies Signed by the artist and dated in 1964. Additionally Inscribed in the wide lower margin: "Dear Dave - The Middlefield Show is a success - financially & publicity-wise. Thanks for your help. Bill Kent. Oct. 1964." The image depicts a faux-classical couple: he with a long beard and a tail, in a priapic state of arousal, reaching underneath the long skirt of a woman dangling a cat-like animal from one hand. Kent was a critically acclaimed artist in the 1960s. He exhibited at the 1966 Whitney Biennial, and apparently drew some comparisons to Andy Warhol. However, the scandal created by his 1965 exhibition of slate prints, "Sex and Violence, Or Patriotic Prints," which caused him to lose his job as a curator, combined with his irascible character and contempt for the commercial art world, led him to leave the city to follow an ascetic path. He pursued the construction of monumental wood sculptures which have been compared to Brancusi, but he is now largely, but unjustifiably, forgotten. This print displays a sly and engaging pop aesthetic. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

        SLEEPING WITH ONE EYE OPEN

Stone Wall Press, Iowa City 1964 - Pulitzer Prize-winning poet's scarce first book, copy #195 of only 225 numbered copies. Apparently issued with a glassine, but not on any of the dozen or so copies we have seen. This copy has a mylar cover on it, but we don't believe it to be original. Sunning to the spine with just a touch of rubbing to the gilt lettering which is clear; contents bright and fresh. Near Fine [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
