This is an account of the Loomer family, written by the late Larry Loomer, a well known antiquarian bookseller in Windsor Nova Scotia and author of Windsor, Nova Scotia : A Journey in History. The Loomers Of Carleton County [New Brunswick] is intelligently compiled within an historical framework, and supported by references. Mr. Loomer's literary talent and his skill as a researcher come together to make this book a fascinating read. The author has added many pen notations to lower margins, and has extended the book by [5] pages of hand printed notes to rear, all contributing favourably to enhancing and further developing the text. All pen notations are legibly printed. The maps are hand drawn, both clear and a pleasure to examine. This book is very scarce, being one of only four copies, and was never available for sale, this being the author's own annotated copy, the other three having been distributed to institutions. Wear to fore-edge and lower edge, tight binding, with many penned annotations and cancellations by the author. A very good copy. 1,000.00 [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Screenplay]: The Pumpkin Eater. Release Script

Mai Harris, London 1964 - Unbound folio sheets mimeographed on rectos only and stapled along the top edge. Some modest wear and tear, mostly on the first and last leaf, two different types of staples used (possibly some of them added later), very good or better. Some modest evidence of handwritten changes. Laid in is a small note indicating that this was purchased (by Edwin V. Erbe) from Serendipity Books for $75 in 1975. Pinter's first screenplay adaptation for a feature film based on the work of another author -- he had previously adapted his own work, or prepared scripts for television. The 1964 film, directed by Jack Clayton, featured Anne Bancroft, Peter Finch, James Mason, Cedric Hardwicke, and Maggie Smith. Pinter won a BAFTA for this screenplay.       Mallorca, Spain. 2 November 1964 - Six and one half closely typed octavo pages, plus covering t.l.s., as well as a relatively clean typescript, 7 leaves, probably secretarial, of a revised draft. Fine. Addressed to William Arrowsmith, in response to a questionnaire for ARION magazine. Discursive, vintage Dahlberg, in response to the query "What do we mean by the word 'classic'?" Dahlberg holds forth on the value and necessity of a knowledge of the classics, while unhesitatingly pointing to new classics, as well as to the merits and demerits of the works of his contemporaries: Pound, Tate, Bourne, Herbst, Eliot, Murray, et al. He continues in response to queries about the nature of education, teachers, etc. He sums up: "Still, had I to repeat my youth, I should look for the Olive of Minerva in our pantheons of learning. The American college is no cloister.Spite of natural human error, and the influence of the Mammon literary agora, it is conceivable that our Thoreaus, Melvilles and Poes will not be obscure wraiths in our own day.The parables are more important than the raiment and the meat; for the poet can somehow endure indigence but not the neglect of his books." Six of the seven pages of the response bear manuscript insertions and corrections, some very substantial. The second typescript, also 7pp. is relatively clean and incorporates Dahlberg's revisions as evident in the worked over text of the earlier draft. It was typed on a different typewriter, and may have been prepared by a staff member of ARION. Published as Billings C108.

Vintage, Original 1964 Jewish Museum Exhibition Poster

New York: Jewish Museum. An original photo-offset 1964 exhibition poster for John's epochal and quite controversial show at the Jewish Museum. Measuring 23 by 29 inches, in very good condition, with a few edge wrinkles, particularly to the upper right, and a small closed tear to the lower left edge, but overall in excellent shape. This poster was actually produced as a show invitation and/or announcement and was sent through the mails, folded into a small packet, with resultant creases and postal markings; this example was never folded, never mailed, and has been stored flat for the past 49 years. Recent auction records do not show an unfolded example being offered, making this quite rare
