Untitled [ Four Flowers], Original Serigraph By Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol, New York Circa 1962 - 1966 1964 - Image size approximately 29 1/2" x 7" (oblong), consisting of four characteristic yellow Warhol flowers in a line, the two center flowers a little smaller and higher than the two outer flowers, with a little lighter green shading to the flowers, on a background of an abstract bright green design over a black background; the left two flowers are nearly but not exact mirror images of the right two flowers. Signature of Warhol below image at lower left, probably in the serigraph. A rare image, not in the catalogue raisonne of Warhol prints, and without the [later] Warhol "factory" stamp. This was obtained by the original owner from a Southern California [Beverly Hills] gallery in the 1960's [as best I remember the gallery name was a woman's, and it was on La Cienega]. Professionally dismounted from backing board [it was originally sold mounted and framed], cleaned and de-acidified with archival materials by a museum-experienced conservator.         Sigma Portfolio 2-5, 12, and 15

[London: Sigma Project. 1964]. Loose mimeographed sheets stapled at one corner with printed rectos and two loose sheets. All but one measuring 8" x 13". Folded from mailing with light wear at a few corners and one with an address stamp and blue smudge, overall near fine or better. After the publication of Cain's Book, Trocchi moved to London with his family and for the next two years focused much of his time on the Sigma Project, consisting of a series of mimeographed portfolio mailings as a way of directly connecting with readers. The intent behind the project was to further his Situationist-influenced theory for cultural revolution based on a focus on one's "inner space" of self-consciousness as a way of influencing society. The Sigma Project included both political works and letters authored by Trocchi, as well as by William Burroughs, Stan Brakage, Michael McClure, and Robert Kelly. All the issues are difficult to obtain and to identify properly, which makes assembling a complete set particularly difficult. This partial set includes:• Sigma Portfolio 2 - Invisible Insurrection of a Million Minds. Written by Trocchi. [1964]. 8pp. Originally published in the Scottish literary journal Saltire Review in 1962. Trocchi lays out his idea behind the Sigma Project. OCLC locates five copies.• Sigma Portfolio 3 - Sigma: A Tactical Blueprint. Written by Trocchi. [1964]. 7pp. Originally printed in City Lights Journal 2. Plan of action. OCLC locates four copies.• Sigma Portfolio 4 -- Potlatch. Unsigned but written by Trocchi. [1964]. [1], 5pp. Solicitation for contributions for an "interpersonal log-book" to be entitled potlatch, along with several pages of Situationist text. OCLC locates three copies.• Sigma Portfolio 5 - Sigma General Information. Second impression. [1964]. 8pp. Anonymous essay discussing the Sigma Project in relation to theories from R.D. Laing, Wallace Berman, William Burroughs, and others. OCLC locates three copy.• Sigma Portfolio 12 - Subscription Form. [1964]. 1p. Brief overview of the Sigma Portfolio which is "outflanking the traditional trap of publishing-house policy, and by means of which the reader gets it, so to speak 'hot' from the writer's pen." OCLC locates one copy.• Sigma Portfolio 15 - [Letter to Potential Subscribers]. [1964]. 1p. List of Sigma Portfolios to date (11), along with a quote from the playwright John Arden on the Sigma Project. OCLC locates one copy. .

Second Annual New York Festival of the Avant Garde, August 30 - September 13 1964

New York: N. Seaman in association with C. Moorman. 1964. First. Program. Measuring 5.5" x 8.5". Single sheet folded once to make four pages. Very good or better with several light horizontal folds and some rubbing. Presents the complete program of works performed at the second festival of the Avant Garde, held at Judson Hall in 1964. The 10-day event featured performances of works by leading Fluxus artists and composers of experimental and electronic music. Organized by cellist Charlotte Moorman, a former roommate of Yoko Ono, this second year festival adopted the "avant-garde" designation following complaints from first year attendees who came expecting classical music and more traditional arts presentations. Among the highlights of this festival were the American debut of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Originale, directed by Allen Kaprow with music by Moorman, James Tenney, Max Neuhaus, and featuring Allen Ginsberg, Dick Higgins, Jackson Mac Low, and many others; the world premier of Stockhausen's "Plus-Minus"; the first of many collaborations between Moorman and her video artist Nam June Paik; John Cage's 26' 1.1499"; and Visage by Luciano Berio. Also included were numerous collaborative and solo works featuring Malcolm Goldstein, Robert Ashley, Joe Jones, George Brecht, Christian Wolff, Alvin Lucier, and many others. The program documents a fantastic assemblage of influential experimental artists. OCLC locates no copies. .

London: Jonathan Cape. Fine in Fine dust jacket. 1964. First Edition; First Printing. Cloth. A First Edition/First Impression (stating "First Published 1964" versus the second state "March 1964") in superior condition, conservatively rated as Fine in alike dust-wrapper. A throughout exceptional copy rarely seen in this condition; "When Ernst Stavro Blofeld blasted into eternity the girl whom James Bond had married only hours before, the heart, the zest for life, went out of Bond" (from the dust-jacket). Basis for the James Bond movie with Sean Connery and Karin Dor as Bond-Girl Helga Brandt. This film is the first Bond movie to deviate from the source material. Other than the Japanese setting, and several characters, the two stories are very different .
