Prima edizione di 100+XXV es. numerati e firmati da Baj e Peret (First edition of 100+XXV numbered copies signed by Baj e Peret). 4to (cm 35x26). pp. 28+incisioni. . Ottimo (Fine). . Baj. 19.63 / Marcel Duchamp'' (Caprile, 1990). [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Paris, Arted 1964 - 1st Edition. Original Boards with Original Dust Jacket. 4to. 207 pages ; 28 cm. Includes 97 plates of Zadkine’s work. In English. "Ossip Zadkine (1890 – 1967) was a Russian-born artist who lived in France. He is primarily known as a sculptor, but also produced paintings and lithographs. He was born to a Jewish father and a mother of Scottish origin His best-known work is probably the sculpture The Destroyed City (1951-1953) , representing a man without a heart, a memorial to the destruction of the center of the Dutch city of Rotterdam in 1940 by the German Luftwaffe. " (Wikipedia, 2016) This copy is warmly inscribed by Zadkine in 1965 to the notable Judaica Collector Michael M. Zagayski and his wife. "Zagayski began collecting as a youth in Poland and had accumulated an impressive number of valuable items which were looted by the invading Nazis, in 1939, when he was attending a Jewish Agency meeting in Geneva. Only a year later he began a new collection Mr. Zagayski came to the United States during World War II to serve as a vice-consul of the Polish Government in Exile. " (Jewish Telegraphic Agency) Two items laid in. First, a 1955 catalog from Mr. Zagayski’s sale of a 1150 AD eition of Josephus’ "The Jewish War" and Volume II of the fist Hebrew Bible printed in Spain. Second, an additional set of photographs of Zadkine’s sculptures printed in 1958. SUBJECT(S) : Sculpteurs -- France -- Biographies. Zadkine, Ossip. Dust Jacket has a very small tear, but on the whole this is a very beautiful copy. Jacket, book, plates, inscription, and additional laid in materials are all in Very Good Condition.         Ace of Pentacles

New York: James A. Carr & Robert A. Wilson, 1964. First trade edition. 8vo, 72 pp, bound in gilt-stamped blue cloth. Lacking the unprinted glassine jacket. With a wine label laid in. This copy is inscribed by Wieners to Dave Haselwood on page 23, with the printed label from a bottle of Paul MAsson Rhine Castle wine carefully removed and laid in. The inscription occurs directly below the brief and enigmatic poem "The Pool of Light" - "A shimmering fern leaf, 2 upraised em-/ blems of gold / lift an instant, trem-/ blings revolved. / O Switzerland, O Schon castle, o land across / the Rhine." The label is bracked by embossed gold emblems above a pastoral view of the castle. We'd always been puzzled by this wistful but beautiful poem, but the presence of the label makes us think that the poem is a meditation on this label or one like it. Wieners wasn't a stranger to Rhine castle wine. In "Poet Be Like God," by Kevin Killian and Lewis Ellingham, there is an account of "A Famous Evening", as Kyger termed it, when Wieners introduced Kyger to Tom Field and Michael Rumaker, who taught them how to make a proper martini of Rhine Castle wine and gin. Haselwood printed Wiener's first book, the Hotel Wentley Poems, so named because Haselwood had loaned him his room at the Hotel Wentley where the book was written. A beautiful association linking Wiener's first and second books, and one which illuminates one of the best poems in the book. Near fine with a faint 2" area of staining to the front board (from Rhine castle wine, we hope). Lacking the unprinted glassine jacket.

Kaluga: Kn. izd-vo, 1964. 55 pp.: ill. 4vo. A fine copy. Original cloth binding with the decoration in ink. The title page is signed by Yuri Gagarin. Together with: a postcard, 'The Day of Cosmonautics' (1965) depicting the monument in Tsiolkovsky's honor in Kaluga. The postcard is signed by Gagarin. Together with: a photograph of Gagarin visiting Kaluga, the hometown of Tsiolkovsky. This little collection of three items shows the bond that existed between the main Soviet theorist of space travel-Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (1857-1935)-and the first man in space-the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968). Tsiolkovsky was the pioneer of cosmonautical theory and his contemporaries considered him more a dreamer than a scientist-the dreamer obsessed by the idea of putting a man in space. Ridiculed at the time Tsiolkovsky nevertheless continued to publish his works and he stood by his belief that space-travel was possible. Yuri Gagarin proved it 26 years after Tsiolkovsky's death. In 1961, Gagarin laid the first brick of Tsiolkovsky's museum in Kaluga-the first museum in the world dedicated to cosmonautics.

The Kuwait Urbanization. Documentation Analysis Critique. [Kuwait, Kuwait Government Printing Press, 1964].

1964. Folio. LXXII, 646 pp. Inscribed by the author. - As the first Arab urban planner in Kuwait, Saba George Shiber (1923-68) recalled an Arab identity for the development of the Central Business District. Through numerous newspaper articles and conference papers, later compiled in this publication. Shiber expressed his divergence from the means of production implemented by European experts during their previous years in the country. By that time, architecture served as a medium to render the ideal in the construction of a nation; it became the framework and the element which supported the "the Man of Kuwait".

        The Passionate Pirate

North Hills: Bird & Bull Press, 1964. Octavo. 91pp. One of 200 copies. A biography on the life and work of Thomas Bird Mosher, the remarkable New England publisher and literary pirate. The Passionate Pirate is one of Morris's earlier titles. In making it, he was plagued with both papermaking and printing problems, since he had recently acquired a new papermaking beater and a new printing press. The first bindings on the books were disastrous and the entire edition had to be rebound. This copy is inscribed by Morris "For my good friend Remy Green" and dated 11/15/64. Remy Green worked for the J. Barcham Green company, which operated the Hayle Mill in Kent, England. Morris was in frequent contact with Remy and his father Jack when he first began his papermaking journey in the 1950s. Morris says of his initial correspondence with Jack Green: "I really sent a barrage of questions and I must say that Mr. Green was extrememly kind as he not only answered them all, but to this day continues to give help and advice." When Jack was ill in August 1957, Remy replied to one of Morris's letters, and afterwards they became "good friends," and Remy met with Morris several times when he visited the United States. In addition to the inscription, this copy has a J. Barcham Green Ltd. stamp to the front flyleaf, dated 1 December 1964. One of the Press's more desirable pieces, with an interesting association, considering the issues Morris had in creating it. A fine copy in morocco-backed decorated paper boards, housed in a drop-back box with leather spine label. (Bird & Bull Bibliography A5; "Omnibus", p. 38, 43-49).

A Confederate General from Big Sur

Grove Press, New York 1964 - True First Edition with no statement of printing on the copyright page and the price $3.95 on the dust jacket. The book is in Fine condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket is clean and mostly bright, but has toning and foxing to the white portions of the front panel and spine. This is the author's first novel. From Wikipedia: "In the summer of 1961, while camping in southern Idaho with his wife and daughter, Brautigan completed the novels A Confederate General From Big Sur and Trout Fishing in America. A Confederate General from Big Sur was his first published novel and met with little critical or commercial success. But when Trout Fishing in America was published in 1967, Brautigan was catapulted to international fame. Literary critics labeled him the writer most representative of the emerging countercultural youth-movement of the late 1960s, even though he was said to be contemptuous of hippies. Trout Fishing in America has sold over 4 million copies worldwide." [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

A very good copy in the publishers deep red cloth with blind stamped title to the front board and publishers logo to the rear, spine lettered in gilt, which is just a little dulled.         Lyndon B. Johnson Signed Photograph.

Color photograph of J. Edgar Hoover and President Lyndon B. Johnson speaking at the White House's Rose Garden on May 8, 1964, an event which honored his 40th year as the FBI Director. Signed and inscribed, "To Deke De Loach, with high regard and best wishes, Lyndon B. Johnson." The recipient Deke DeLoach worked at the FBI for nearly thirty years and, in 1965, was promoted by Hoover to Deputy Director. During his post, DeLoach was the third most senior official in the FBI after J. Edgar Hoover and Clyde Tolson and was the lead investigator in both the Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., assassinations. The photograph measures 7.75 inches by 9.25 inches. Matted and framed, which measures 12.5 inches by 14 inches. A nice association.

Eigenh. Brief mit U. Wohl Wien, 21. IV. 1964.

1964. ¾ S. Gr.-4to. Mit eh. adr. Kuvert.

New York: Fleet Publishing Corporation, (1964.) : , 1964. SIGNED hardcover first edition - SIGNED by the book's subject with his birth name, "Cassius Clay" -- a rare signature and especially so in this rather hard-to-find book, the first published biography of the great heavyweight champion. Issued later in the same year in which Clay took the heavyweight crown away from Sonny Liston (in their February 1964 bout), the book includes an account of the turbulent months that followed -- including the new champ's relationship with Malcolm X and his conversion to Islam, the controversy over his draft status, his much-publicized trip to Africa, and his suspension by the World Boxing Association (in effect as the book ends), which delayed his rematch with Liston until May 1965. Illustrated with photographs. Includes his professional boxing record. 116 pp. Good only in a good dustjacket (bumped at several corners, also bumped and dented at bottom center of front cover - hard enough to have created a short split in the board; jacket is price-clipped and has several ragged tears and associated creasing along the bottom edge of the front panel, along with internal tape repairs. .
