Various: United Nations Television, 1961-1967. Various: United Nations Television. 1961-1967. Nineteen 16mm films with sound (some color, some black and white) , each from 25-29 minutes long. Very good: most with typical outgassing from period film stock as usual; of the five films that have been digitized, four of them had to be spliced. Image quality varies: the color film is a bit off hue, one of the black and white films is blurry and the sound cut out halfway through Fabio's Journey; we note that Costco was used for digitization and believe all media would benefit from expert restoration. This is a collection of films produced by the United Nations for its United Nations Television series, “International Zone. ” It began airing on at least 58 television stations in the United States in late 1960 or early 1961 with many of the episodes hosted or narrated by Alistair Cooke. The countries shown in this collection include Senegal, Singapore, Ecuador, Peru, the Congo, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Egypt, Morocco, Tanzania, Brazil, Sri Lanka and Venezuela. An inventory of the films including their titles is available, along with any information we have been able to glean about the ones we have not digitized. The series presented a wide range of issues. It ran to at least 99 episodes and is now all but forgotten. Most in this group depict poverty-stricken regions adapting to the infrastructure assistance they received from the UN. A few relate purely to culture and one film describes the project that led to the adoption of the World Heritage Foundation. Acc … [Click Below for Full Description]

Juster, Norton; Feiffer, Jules
New York: Epstein & Carroll, 1961. First edition of this modern classic. Octavo, original blue cloth, cartographic endpapers, illustrated by Jules Feiffer. Signed by both Norton Juster and illustrator, Jules Feiffer on the title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with light rubbing. A superior example, rare and desirable signed by both Juster and Feiffer. "This book has been described by Naomi Lewis as ‘the best original modern book in the Carroll line'" (Carpenter & Prichard, 409). Anyone with an appreciation for the language and irony of Alice in Wonderland will consider this witty adventure a classic. The novel begins with a miserably bored lad who exclaims that "there is nothing for me to do, nowhere I'd care to go, and hardly anything worth seeing." Suddenly a tollbooth appears in his room, and, having no other interests, the lad Milo drives through it and sets off in his toy car for a mythic journey.

Glendale, CA: Arthur H. Clark Company, 1961. 404pp. Octavo [24 cm] Light blue cloth with dark blue printed title on backstrip. The extremities are moderately bumped and rubbed, there are a couple of very short splits in the cloth at the head of the backstrip, and there is a bit of trivial soiling on the covers. The threads of the signatures are just barely revealed in the inside margins of the text block in several places, however the sturdiness of the text block is not affected. Released a year prior to the red cloth trade edition. The correct first edition, issued in only a minuscule printing of 209 copies, none were offered for sale. They were given to descendants of John D. Lee as well as to friends of the publisher and author. This true first printing omits the last three paragraphs on page 376 regarding Lee's reinstatement to membership in the Mormon Church. Scarce edition of this important work. Americana Century 35. Joseph Heller
First edition, first printing, published by Simon and Schuster (New York, 1961). Book condition: near fine. Reddish topdye has a few minor nicks and may be a touch faded. Binding is only slightly separated at rear between rear endpaper and text block, but it is still holding well. The boards are gorgeous, square and bright. Great example. Dust jacket condition: near fine, perfect but for some light edgewear to spine ends with no loss. Crinkling at bottom of spine also extends a bit into the bottom of the front panel. A truly stunning example of this susceptible jacket, with price of $5.95 present on front flap, and jacket is now protected in a removable mylar sleeve. Warsaw, Wydanwnictwo Ministerstwa Obrony Narodowej, 1961. First Edition. First Impression. A true first edition, preceding the first English-language edition by nearly a decade. Uncommon. One of the finest works in the speculative genre. A highlight of any science fiction collection. Adapted for film three times, the best perhaps being the 1972 adaptation. The book itself is near fine with just the slightest wear to the edges, one closed tear and crease to the rear, upper spine tip and another short closed tear (4mm) to the top of the jacket. Two longer closed tears to the lower spine (25mm & 15mm). A wonderful book. In Andrews and Rennison's 100 Must-Read SF Novels [p86]. Diese spektakuläre, monumental proportionierte Karte zeigt die physische Geographie des Mondes, wie Krater, Meere, Berge und andere Formationen.
