Reeves, Rosser
Borzoi/ Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1961. First trade edition, published after the privately printed Ted Bates edition. Octavo, original blue cloth, slipcase. Signed by the author on the front free endpaper, "With a promise that this is a very short, short book! Rosser Reeves Oct 8, 1962. Fine in the original glassine wrapper in a fine slipcase. Rare signed. Rarely has a book about advertising created such a commotion as this brilliant account of the principles of successful advertising. Published in 1961, Reality in Advertising was listed for weeks on the general best-seller lists, and is today acknowledged to be advertising's greatest classic. It has been translated into twelve languages-French, Japanese, Spanish, Dutch, German, Italian, Portuguese, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Hebrew-and has been published in twenty-one separate editions in fifteen countries. Leading business executives, and the advertising cognoscenti, hail it as "the best book for professionals that has ever come out of Madison Avenue." (For typical comments see back of jacket.) Rosser Reeves says: "The book attempts to formulate certain theories of advertising, many quite new, and all based on 30 years of intensive research." These theories, whose value has been proved in the marketplace, all revolve around the central concept that success in selling a product is the key criterion of advertising. In the course of explaining his own hard-headed approach, Mr. Reeves shows why the ad campaigns for many products are just so much money poured down the drain. He has some devastating things to say abo … [Click Below for Full Description]

Joseph Heller
Simon and Schuster, 1961. First Edition, First Printing Signed by Joseph Heller First the Book. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1961. 443 pp. First edition, first printing stated. Signed by Joseph Heller on the front free endpaper. Bound in publisher's blue cloth with spine lettered in white. Very Good+. In a Very Good unclipped dust jacket, which exhibits very minimal edge wear. A nice copy for the first printing, signed by the author. Now the really rare part.... Joseph Hellers personal promotion papers in the Army Air Force training command to Second Lieutenant. At this point he was was doing the job for multiple months and this temporary promotion came with much needed fanfare. Joseph was known to be in the training corp of the Army's Air Force and all the dates match up. Also his address is listed in Brooklyn which matches his known place of residence at the time. One of the great military commentary books of our generation with personal wartime papers of the author. I have been approached many times by libraries to donate these to their rare book room but alas I'm a business, and it goes to the highest bidder. Any questions, please ask. Rand, Ayn
Random House, 1961. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine / Near Fine. A fine first edition in a near fine dust jacket, inscribed by Ayn Rand on the half title to Dorothy Austin "with congratulations for your courage." The recipient of this inscription may be the same Dorothy Austin who was an ordained Episcopal minister who taught at the divinity and medical schools at Harvard, and became a master of Lowell House at Harvard with her same sex partner, a Harvard professor. The reference to "her courage" may refer to her public openness about her sexual orientation long before it was widely accepted by her church and the world at large. Ayn Rand was critical of homosexuality, although she said her views were personal and not a matter of her Objectivist philosophy. First Printing stated on the copyright page. Housed in a custom-made collector's slipcase. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; In Dust Jacket]

Kerouac, Jack (Amram, David; Frank, Robert; Leslie, Alfred et al.)
New York, NY: Grove Press, Inc./ Evergreen Books Ltd., 1961. First Printing. Softcover. Near Fine. "Here is the complete Kerouac text, with photos selected by Robert Frank from the film Pull My Daisy- a short cinematographic exhibition of "Beat" life in a Bowery "pad" on New York's Lower East Side, with spontaneous performances by poets Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, and Peter Orlovsky, painter Larry Rivers, composer David Amram, and other characters drawn from the highest echelons of Beat society. It is directed by Robert Frank and Alfred Leslie in a departure from a screen play by Jack Kerouac." (from back cover) Among the most well-known, exemplary artifacts of the Beat Generation is the short film, Pull My Daisy, released in 1959 & with a tie-in book published a few years later in 1961. With the iconic Swiss-born American photographer Robert Frank (1924-2019, just deceased as of this writing) behind the camera & co-directed by the artist Robert Leslie (whose NYC loft is where the filmed action takes place), Pull My Daisy depicts some of the most important, influential figures of mid-20th century literature, art & music in a casual (albeit with an element of surrealism) setting as if the camera is among the participants looking directly at their doings. As Jerry Tanner, the late critic-editor of the legendary Village Voice, puts it in his introduction: "I suspect...one reason I like the movie: it shows me people I know doing the things they do. It shows me David Amram, for instance, whom I know the best of any here, exactly as David always is, all optimism and c … [Click Below for Full Description]
