Bible. English. 1611/1961. Authorized (i.e., King James Version).
[colophon: Cleveland: World Publishers Folio. [737] ff.. 1961] A fine full-size facsimile on specially made "antique" paper from the Ventura Mill at Cernobbio, Italy, faithfully reproducing the black-letter text of the first edition, first issue (the "He" issue) of the King James Bible. => The edition was limited to 1500 copies, of which this is number 878. It was printed by offset lithography and bound in full leather by Amilcare Pizzi of Milan in a handsome replica of the type of binding found on some copies of this edition. Binding as above with leather abraded at edges, spine-tips, and bands; joints open and fragile; lacks the slipcase. Interior fresh, clean, and lovely. A compromised copy, but a handsome and interesting production not necessarily easy to find on the market; a large volume priced to permit its strengthening by a conservator should that be wished for.

HELLER, Joseph
New York: Simon & Schuster, 1961. First Edition. Hardcover. This is a decent if not spectacular copy. The blue cloth is just a little faded but quite clean, the lettering still strong on the spine. A former owner's bookplate is on the front pastedown. Near Fine in a Very Good First Issue dustwrapper complete but for a 1/4" even chip at the head of the spine and two smaller chips at the base of the spine, one just touching the lettering in the publisher's name. There is a two-inch jagged closed tear near the bottom of the spine that just extends to the front panel but is barely visible under mylar. There is the soiling typically found on this dustwrapper along with mild sunning to the spine.. A very collectable copy. Author's uncommon and influential first book, basis for the popular film.
