PERCY, WALKER
New York: Knopf, 1961. First edition. A fine copy in quarter-backed red cloth and blue paper-backed boards with gilt and black spine lettering and designs on the spine and front panel, with slight toning to the endpapers, in a fine, professionally-restored dustwrapper, bright and without blemish. This book narrates the life of a young stock-broker in New Orleans, troubled by the decline of Southern tradition, family problems, and his traumatic experiences in the Korean War. Movies and books seem more real to him than life itself. He decides to journey to other places in search of himself and of life itself. Percy's voice caught the attention of serious readers and he won the U.S. National Book Award for this book. Time magazine included the novel in its "100 Best English-language Novels" and the Modern Library ranked The Moviegoer sixtieth on its list of the hundred best English-language novels of the twentieth century. It has been professionally restored and is bright and fine. The book is housed in a fine slipcase covered with black cloth and with a leather label and gilt titles to the spine. Percy's best-known work, which won the National Book Award in 1962. Time Magazine calls it one of the 100 best English-language novels written between 1923 and 2005. V.S. Naipaul
Andre Deutsch, 1961. First UK edition; a near fine book in a very good dust jacket. An outstanding copy of this novel ranked as one of the best works of fiction of the 20th century. This near fine book is clean and bright with a crisp tight binding and bright lettering on the spine; both spine ends show minor shelf wear including a crimp to the lower spine end, else fine. Housed in a very good dust jacket that is clean and vibrant, but does show moderate chipping to the top spine end and corners, light soiling to the back panel and edges, and mild shelf wear to the bottom spine end and edges. Overall, a beautiful copy of this important novel! Not remaindered, not price clipped, not ex-library; in archival protection. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

Isherwood, Christopher
Simon and Schuster, New York, 1961. First edition of this novel from the author of Goodbye Berlin and what many consider his finest novel. Octavo, original cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Monroe Wheeler ex dono Christopher Isherwood." The recipient Monroe Wheeler was an American publisher and museum coordinator and a close friend of Isherwood's. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Paul Bacon. Bremen, 1928. The Greek Islands, 1932. London, 1938. California, 1940. Four portraits, four settings, four narrators all named Christopher Isherwood. Here are the postcards home from a spiritual tourist looking for a new mode of life as well as a new place to live while Europe, and then the world, moves relentlessly toward war. Which of the guides he encounters can lead him to a better future? The businessman, the utopian, the guru, the geisha? Published in 1961, Down There on a Visit is based on material from a proposed epic that would also have incorporated The Berlin Stories. It is now widely regarded as the most accomplished of Isherwood's novels. "This is probably Isherwood's best novel. It offers the sheer pleasure of writing completely personal and yet completely controlled, radiant with observation, never wasting a word, funny and sympathetic" (Stephen Spender, The New Republic), [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

Three First Draft scripts, dated 2/10/61, 4/5/61, and 5/9/61, the first two being just over 60 pages each, with a credit for screenwriter Buchman (scripts likely not utilized by director Mankiewicz, who tended to script as he shot), and the third script with a credit for screenwriter MacDougall, weighing in at over 300 pages, likely the the last incarnation of the story as a script and the one used during production. Annotated post-production script detailing cuts for release of the film in Italy and for international release, noting Reels 1 through 15, and covering only the first half of the film. The script ends with INTERMISSION."All items will be packed in bubble-wrap and either a cardboard book-wrap or a box where appropriate. Ian Fleming
Jonathan Cape. THUNDERBALL by IAN FLEMING (Near Fine Condition) 1961 First Edition / First State (Jonathan Cape Ltd) Original Unclipped Richard Chopping Designed Dust Jacket A superb example of Thunderball by Ian Fleming; published in 1961 by Jonathan Cape Ltd. (No other publication dates) The book is in near fine condition - black clothed hardback cover with skeletal hand motif to front board and gilt lettering to spine. No issues other than very minor bumping at spine foot. The interior is clean and white throughout and has no age related issues whatsoever. I would class the condition as fine other than for the one issue which is a red book shop stamp at the foot of the front paste down page. The leaf ends are also perfectly white and give the book an extremely attractive tidy appearance. The spine and binding are fine and book is tight. The dust jacket is the correct version for this book and is in very good ++ condition with only a couple of issues to note that prevents me stating it as near fine. The front cover has some faint rubbing at the top edge and there is some small marks at the very edge top and bottom of rear flap. The one real issue of note is some rubbing and chipping at spine top. (See Photos) There is no sun related damaged and the covers and flaps are clean, bright and unmarked. The front flap has a blurb about this book and Ian Fleming; this continues to rear flap. The price is unclipped showing as 15s. net at the foot of front flap. This is a VERY GOOD EXAMPLE INDEED of Thunderball and is sold in full confidence that it will make a great addition to an … [Click Below for Full Description]

Facsimile. Amazing! Gutenberg Bible - 1455/1961 - Cooper Square Facsimile Edition Up for auction, and in beautiful condition except for some minor shelf wear (see pictures), is one of only 1000 copies of the Cooper Square Gutenberg. This is the only American full-scale facsimile of the first book ever printed using a printing press. And it is the second of only two ever full-scale facsimile editions printed worldwide. These very large and heavy Cooper Square tomes were printed using lithography and sheet fed gravure and hand bound with mahogany boards and leather. I have owned this amazing book for 15 years. A single sheet from one of this book sell for $50 to $120. Since I no longer have room for this amazing and large book in my library, I am selling it for very low price. Very few of these two volume sets have found there way into private hands. Most have been acquired by important libraries, universities and institutions; and are therefore out of the public market. Ward, Colin (Ed)
London: Freedom Press, 1961. Anarchy - First Series complete, issues 1-118, 1961-1970. Original card covers, each 32pp. Staples often rusted, minor rubbing to extremities, spines sometimes lightly faded, one or two with previous owner's names in, occasional light foxing to edges of text block, but generally quite bright and clean. Number 105 has the standard typographic cover as usual (not the suppressed graphic cover - see Poyner, page 272 for Segar's explanation). A complete set of the first series of Anarchy, in original wrappers, now housed in a black buckram case with label. Most issues are on a specific theme examined from an Anarchist perspective, ie. Crime and Punishment, India, Automation, Poverty, Spain, Education etc. Comfortably the best English language Anarchist periodical ever produced, it includes work by Ward, Bookchin, Walter, Chomsky and Goodman amongst many others. The cover designs, mainly by Segar, but also by others, were replicated recently in a book, edited by Poyner, called 'Autonomy', which also has a very useful index to 'Anarchy'. Noyce 35; Warwick Guide to British Labour Periodicals 78. First Edition. Card Covers. Good. Illus. by Segar, Rufus. 8vo. Pamphlets.
