a 277-page typescript titled "Tales from the Shenandoah"

ca. 1961 - 28x21cm, 277 pp., Weighs 1200 grams. This is a typescript of an unpublished novel dealing with the nascent civil rights movement authored by the anti-Semitic conspiracy theorist [ and Ezra Pound disciple] Eustace Mullins. Pagination runs (2) [title & 1- page synopsis];1-9; 9-96; 116 -117; 122-126; 138-300; 302. Incomplete. Appears to be comprised of several different versions of this manuscript with varying paginations- uncertain if this was Mullins edited version or if this is incomplete. This appears to be among the final drafts, as an earlier version included Ezra Pound as a character, which Pound reportedly objected to and Mullins extensively revised. Mullins submitted this to the publisher of his Pound biography, who declined. ["a novel about a small town in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, consist of ten chapters, each one a vignette in the larger story. 300,000 words, The central figure is the Reverend Henry West, who becomes involved in sit-in demonstrations with Negroes, and falls in love with a 14-year-old mulatto girl, the illegitimate daughter of the Judge of the Supreme Court. The lives of all of the characters are intertwined and lead to a vigorous climax.,." - synopsis].

        Weegee: An Autobiography

Ziff-Davis, 1961. First edition of the famed photographer's autobiography. Octavo. Inscribed by the author, "To Frances Colley Weegee". Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with light shelfwear. The acclaimed street photographer of Naked Hollywood and Naked City is known for his documentation of the lurid undersides of stardom and commerce in mid-century Los Angeles. His use of distortion through trick lenses and multiple exposures is part of the Weegee-trademark, but it is also an artful glimpse into Weegee's perception of the underlying themes of Hollywood profiling. Ultimately, Weegee's work can be seen as a noirish glance into the urban life of the early Twentieth Century, while his autobiography is an insight into the behind that glance

Otherwise a bright, fresh copy, unsunned and apparently unused. & & Child's culinary impact was felt long before the latest craze in the wake of the 2009 film "Julie & Julia," starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams (particularly by those of us in her hometown of Pasadena). A scarce first in any condition, but, not surprisingly, most copies splattered with wine around the coq a vin recipe, glued with cheese on the soufflé page and seemingly dipped in hollandaise sauce, not to mention the copious notes written in the margins around family favorites. This copy suffers from none of those annoyances; a true collector's copy. about Fine in Near Fine. dust jacket.

        Le cantique des cantiques *

F.Mermod, Lausanne 1961.

The Death And Life of Great American Cities

New York: Random House, 1961. First edition of the author's tour de force. Octavo. Signed by the author, "Jane Jacobs Toronto 1978". Fine in an excellent near fine dust jacket. The Death and Life of Great American Cities was described by The New York Times as "perhaps the most influential single work in the history of town planning. . . . [It] can also be seen in a much larger context. It is first of all a work of literature; the descriptions of street life as a kind of ballet and the bitingly satiric account of traditional planning theory can still be read for pleasure even by those who long ago absorbed and appropriated the book's arguments." Rare signed.
