Set of all six manned Mercury launch photographs, each signed and inscribed by the astronaut on the rocket to astronaut Walter Cunningham

NASA, 1961-1963 - The Birth of the American Space Program A One-of-a-Kind Collection of Signed Mercury Mission Launch Photographs. Brilliant color photographs, each 10 ¾ x 14 in, matted. Fine. A MAGNIFICENT COLLECTION of photographs of all six manned Mercury missions, with each Mercury astronaut inscribing his launch photograph to fellow astronaut Walter Cunningham, later the Apollo 7 lunar module pilot. Project Mercury, which began on October 7, 1958, one year after the launch of Sputnik I, aimed to put a man in orbit, to study the effects of space flight on humans, and to return men safely to earth. The collection is accompanied by a typed letter signed by astronaut Walter Cunningham stating, “This collection of six launch pad photos, one for each of the manned Mercury missions, were obtained by me personally shortly after being selected as an Astronaut [October 1963]. It was tangible proof to any visitors or old friends that I was actually acquainted with these ‘heroes’ and could bask in their reflected glory. The time would eventually come when I would serve the same function for many others. Walter Cunningham, Apollo VII.” The wonderful, inspiring inscriptions are as follows: 1. “To Walt Cunningham, warmest personal regard and high expectations-Alan B Shepard Jr. Shepard was the first American in space. 2. “Best Wishes to Walt, Gus Grissom.” Grissom was the second American in space. As a result of Gus Grissom’s death in the tragic 1967 Apollo I launch pad fire, his signature on photographs of this significance is rare. 3. “Best Regard to Walt- we’ve had some big days as here shown, but there are even bigger ahead. Good luck, Walt JA Glenn Jr.” Glenn was the first American in orbit). 4. “To Walt with a sincere ‘Welcome Aboard’ warm personal regard and great faith in your future contributions to the space program. Scott Carpenter.” 5. “Best wishes Walt, come up sometime, Wally Schirra.” 6. “Best regards to Walt, Gordon Cooper.” Cooper was the first American in space for more than 24 hours.

        Weegee: An Autobiography

Ziff-Davis, 1961. Ziff-Davis, 1961. First edition of the famed photographer's autobiography. Octavo. Inscribed by the author, "To Frances Colley Weegee". Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with light shelfwear. The acclaimed street photographer of Naked Hollywood and Naked City is known for his documentation of the lurid undersides of stardom and commerce in mid-century Los Angeles. His use of distortion through trick lenses and multiple exposures is part of the Weegee-trademark, but it is also an artful glimpse into Weegee's perception of the underlying themes of Hollywood profiling. Ultimately, Weegee's work can be seen as a noirish glance into the urban life of the early Twentieth Century, while his autobiography is an insight into the behind that glance

Also, laid in is a card signed by Albers.Henri Cartier-Bresson is perhaps the greatest photographer of the twentieth century, The Europeans, along with The Decisive Moment are his finest books. Many of his best photographs also have startlingly broad political and sociological connotations, which gives the ordinary subjects extraordinary dignity, even grandeur.

New York: Random House, 1961. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/very good. A Very Good copy of the first edition, first printing (slight lean, some minor marking to the spine, outer bottom corner of some pages a bit ruffled), in a Very Good price-clipped toned dust jacket (some small chips and tears), CONTEMPORARILY SIGNED, PLACED, AND DATED BY KAREN BLIXEN [whose Pen Name was Isak Dinesen] on the half-title where she has signed "Rungstedlung 1961." [Now the Karen Blixen Museum, Rungstedlung is the country house on Denmark's coast where Karen Blixen lived most of her life and where she most certainly wrote the stories presented in this book.] In "Shadows on the Grass", Karen Blixen offers her further recollections of her life in Africa, with many of the places and people which appeared in "Out of Africa" appearing again in these stories. So closely related are the two books that the two eventually (1985) began to be published in a single volume, and the two books together provided the basis for the 1985 Sydney Pollack film titled "Out of Africa" starring Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, and Klaus Maria Brandauer. Having an excellent Provenance, this copy belonged to Academy Award-winning actor Jack Palance; a bookplate from the 2006 sale of his personal property is loosely laid in. Signed copies of the book are quite uncommon to the market. A Very Good copy, CONTEMPORARILY SIGNED, PLACED, AND DATED BY KAREN BLIXEN in the year prior to her death. QUITE SCARCE.

Transcript des Aussage-Protokolls Eichmanns vor der israelischen Polizei 1960-1961. (Transcript of the complete cross examination/interrogation by members of the 6th Bureau at Police Headquarters in Israel)

Jerusalem, Police d'Israel, 1961.. 6 Bände (six volumes). 3564 doppelspaltig numerierte Seiten (3564 numbered pages). 8° quer, grünfarbene Orig.-Kartoneinbände mit hellblauen Leinenrückenstreifen (green card-wrappers with blue clothe backstrips).. "The enclosed material is to be considered "Confidential" and permission will have to be ovtained for purposes of publication or reproduction of the whole or any part of it, A. Selinger, Mahane Iyar, 3.2.61" im Vorwort. - With examples of Eichmann's corrections and emendations and clarifications throughout. He has signed the end of each volume. The text, which is in German, has been transcribed from 76 tone band. - In deutscher Sprache. Solide gebunden!

New York, Kerhonkson, etc. 1961 through 1971.. New York, Kerhonkson, etc. 1961 through 1971.. Whole numbers 6, 10, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 30, 34, 35, and 38, of thirty-eight numbers published. Fourteen issues. Quarto. Stapled, mimeographed typescript, some of the later issues accompanied by decorated or pictorial wrappers. Many issues folded for mailing, and showing signs of postal use, six issues (addressed to Dan Rice) rather heavily used, some occasional annotations, discolorations or marginal tanning, but in the main, a good lot. Edited by Diane Di Prima and Leroi Jones (by Di Prima alone after #26, with various guest editors). A highly important forum of poetry, and absolutely essential to the literary history of the era, THE FLOATING BEAR was conceived and distributed among fellow poets and friends as a means for the speedy transmission of works and ideas. The roster of contributors consists of a broad range of the most important young writers of the time. The distribution of FLOATING BEAR ranged from 117 to 1250 copies over its lifetime, though purely anecdotal bookselling tradition has maintained that issue number 24 was issued in a particularly small number of copies. Issue 38 is the joint INTREPID/BEAR number. This modest lot, consisting of tailings from several complete runs assembled in recent years, includes issues addressed to several different parties, including Dan Rice and Corinth Books. ANDERSON & KINZIE, p.699-700.

        Ms. Brief mit eigenh. U.

Göttingen, 17. XI. 1961.. 1 S. 4to..
