Meist sind es große Formate und nicht immer hat man gute Rahmen 70x90 zur Verfügung und meine Bilder wirken in den hellgrau-ziegelroten Rahmen sehr gut. Es könnte ein Mann sie in einem VW wenn wir bei 20-30 Bilder bleiben ohne weiteres transportieren - so man die Sitze hinten herausnimmt. Nach Wien bekam ich einen großen BMW - da war es überhaupt kein Problem. [ ]&quote;. - Zunächst Autodidakt, besuchte Weber von 1911-13 die Kunstgewerbeschule in Erfurt, arbeitete für die &quote;Leipziger Illustrierte Zeitung&quote; und war im Ersten Weltkrieg als Kriegszeichner eingesetzt. 1917 illustrierte er mit Paul Lingens Requiem das erste von mehr als 60 Büchern. 1925 gründete er die &quote;Clan-Presse&quote; zur Herstellung eigener Lithographien. 1928 trat er in Kontakt zum Widerstandskreis um Ernst Niekisch, für dessen Zeitschriften &quote;Widerstand&quote; und &quote;Entscheidung&quote; er politische Satiren zeichnete. Er illustrierte auch Niekischs Schrift &quote;Hitler -- ein deutsches Verhängnis&quote; (1932). 1937 wurde er von der Gestapo verhaftet, nach der Entlassung entstanden die Blattfolgen &quote;Die Schachspieler&quote; und &quote;Die Gefangenen&quote;. Nach Kriegsende begann er mit der Gestaltung der Handwerkerbilder, der sog. Winheimer Drucke, 1954-67 war er Mitarbeiter des Münchner &quote;Simplicissimus&quote;. - Siegfried Salzmann war von 1971 bis 1984 Direktor des Wilhelm Lehmbruck-Museums in Duisburg und anschließend bis 1993 Direktor der Kunsthalle Bremen.

      New York: Alfred A. Knopf 1961. First edition. Fine in a lightly rubbed near fine dustwrapper with very light edgewear. Inscribed by the author to publisher and bibliographer Stuart Wright: "for Stuart with my thanks for what he did with a magazine article. Walker. Covington February 6, 1980." Wright was the publisher of the Palaemon Press, which published fine press editions of most of the best Southern authors of the time. Presumably Percy is referring to the fine press edition of Bourbon which Wright published as a private edition in 1979, and later republished in another edition in 1981. Estimates of the size of the printing of The Moviegoer vary, with strong cases for both 1500, and 3000. The Moviegoer was awarded the National Book Award over both Catch-22 and Franny and Zoey. The author's exceptionally scarce first book and a highspot of modern Southern literature, inscribed copies have become very uncommon, and are seldom found with notable associations.

Moncrif (1687-1770) was a French writer, courtier, and academician now best known for his Histoire des Chats, first published in 1727. In letter form, Moncrif discusses the role of cats throughout history and his work can be read both as a satire of pedantic academic writing and a sincere tribute to the domesticated feline. "Let us calm ourselves ... one day we shall see the merits of Cats generally recognized. It is impossible that we should not come to feel that in our Cat we possess a friend who is the best of company, an admirable Pantomimist, a born Astrologer, a perfect Musician, in short the union of the talents & the graces" (p. 104-5).

        The Soft Machine

      Paris: Olympia Press. (1961). First. First edition. Wrappers. Small perforations to five interior pages, evidently from the printing process, otherwise fine in wrappers (with "New Franc" price on the rear wrap) in a lightly rubbed, else fine dustwrapper. Inscribed by the author to the actress Ruth Ford: "For Ruth Ford, All the best, William S. Burroughs." Ford, the Mississippi-born sister of surrealist author Charles Henri Ford, was a beautiful model and actress, first in Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre, and later in films and theater. Notably, she starred on Broadway in Jean Paul Sartre's No Exit in 1946, under the direction of John Huston (the last of five Broadway plays he directed). Her apartment in the Dakota became a salon for authors such as Tennessee Williams, Edward Albee, Terrence McNally, and Truman Capote. A chance encounter between Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents in her Manhattan living room led to their collaboration, with her Dakota-neighbor Leonard Bernstein, on West Side Story. Similarly, she brought together Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight to create the celebrated stories of Eloise, the little girl who lived at the Plaza.Ford is well known also for her long friendship with William Faulkner, which began with her dating his brother Dean in the early 1930s. Faulkner was openly smitten with Ford for many years. He wrote his experimental 1951 title Requiem for a Nun, a sequel to his early and controversial novel Sanctuary, with her in mind. He further declared, to the consternation of his agent and publisher, that it was her dramatic property (Requiem for a Nun was a mixture of stage play and novel). Stage production of the title stalled for years, partly because Faulkner's experimental drama did not lend itself to live theatre, and partly because the producers were unsure of Ford's suitability. Faulkner was adamant that it was her dramatic property, and in 1959 she adapted the play herself and starred in its London production opposite her second husband, Zachary Scott. Her stage version received enthusiastic reviews in both London and New York, but did not fare so well with audiences and closed after a short run on Broadway. Ford continued to act on both stage and screen well into the 1980s. She passed away in 2009 at the age of 98. .

He attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence in 1917. Although he never abandoned painting, Marini devoted himself primarily to sculpture from about 1922. From this time his work was influenced by Etruscan art and the sculpture of Arturo Martini. Marini succeeded Martini as professor at the Scuola d’Arte di Villa Reale in Monza, near Milan, in 1929, a position he retained until 1940. During this period, Marini traveled frequently to Paris, where he associated with Massimo Campigli, Giorgio de Chirico, Alberto Magnelli, and Filippo Tibertelli de Pisis. In 1936 he moved to Tenero-Locarno, in Ticino Canton, Switzerland; during the following few years the artist often visited Zürich and Basel, where he became a friend of Alberto Giacometti, Germaine Richier, and Fritz Wotruba. In 1936, he received the Prize of the Quadriennale of Rome. In 1938, he married Mercedes Pedrazzini. He accepted a professorship in sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan, in 1940.       Kao Ling-Mei,, Hong Kong: 1961 - A folio volume with full page color plates of one of the best known and most prolific Chinese artists of the twentieth century, known as Zhang Daqian, 1899 - 1983 (original name Zhang Yuan). Zhang Daqian's lotus paintings and landscapes are especially noteworthy. Zhang and his brother studied painting as children, and traveled to Japan to study textile dyeing techniques. Zhang studied traditional painting in Shanghai, and began to meticulously copy ancient masters' works. He later studied ancient Buddhist wall paintings, enriching his own understanding of religious imagery. Contents of this folio include: on the art of painting; on painting plum blossoms, orchids, chrysanthemums, bamboo, flowers & plants; flowers and plants in the Mo Ku style, peonies in the elaborate style; on landscapes; on copying old masters; snow scenes; on nature, feeling and attitude; paper and ink; brush and water; birds, fish, animals, humans, classical ladies; painting eyes; of inscriptions, seals and mounting. Over time, Zhang became a highly skilled forger; one of his forgeries was acquired by the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in 1957. In a recent Museum exhibition, titled "Zhang Daqian Painter, Collector, Forger" (Dec. 2007 - Sept. 2008), Zhang is described as follows, "As a painter, he was known for his singular ability to mix traditional techniques and styles with contemporary ideas and currents. As a collector, he accumulated important examples from all genres of Chinese painting and left behind copious seals and inscriptions. As a forger, Zhang so mastered the art of deception that his fakes were purchased unwittingly by nearly every major art museum in the United States. Of particular interest is a master forgery acquired by the Museum in 1957 as an authentic work of the tenth century. The painting, which was allegedly a landscape by the Five Dynasties period master Guan Tong, is one of Zhang’s most ambitious forgeries and serves to illustrate both his skill and his audacity."Folio, 114pp, 74 plates. Blue cloth covers in pristine condition, traditional binding with title in Chinese on cream silk at front cover, gilt illustration of two figures at lower right, and red stamp. Housed in a gold and black patterned silk (slightly faded) fabric covered slipcase with title label laid down at front cover in English and at rear cover in Chinese; with loop and peg fasteners. Second edition of third volume with the blind stamp of Bruce K. Denebeim (1927–2012), the co-founder of the American Pacific Bank and a keen yachtsman.

        Three Programs for Events Held at Yoko Ono's Chambers Street Apartment

      New York. 1961. Four mimeographed typescript sheets, printed rectos only. Quartos. Overall very good with two sheets bright and fresh but two faded and somewhat toned, all with various old folds. Three programs from the historic concerts and performance series organized by La Monte Young and held at Yoko Ono's Chamber Street apartment that featured many of the top artists of New York's avant-garde scene including John Cage, Dick Higgins, Walter DeMaria, Terry Riley, Jackson Mac Low, Robert Morris, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Jim Dine, and Ono. The series closely paralleled the European shows being produced by George Maciunas of his newly developing Fluxus movement, that itself was inspired by The Dadaist. The Chambers Street shows led Maciunas to invite Ono to join his fledgling group and helped coalesce the various artists that would become the core members of Fluxus.The first two sheets are for a two-night musical performance by Inchiyanagi on January 7 and 8, 1961 featuring various performers such as Young, Mac Low, Richard Maxfield, Simone Morris, David Tudor, and with a number dedicated to John Cage. The verso of the first sheet has several lines of pseudonymous verse in pencil that we suspect may be that of Mac Low. The second sheet, which we assume was handed out the second night and calls this "#2 in the series presented by La Monte Young," warns the audience "THE PURPOSE OF THIS SERIES IS NOT ENTERTAINMENT," and promotes the next event featuring Henry Flynt, whose program is also included here. That program, "#3" dated February 25 and 26, describes the event as "experimental concert Jazz, Flynt-music, or poetry [that] will be improvised" with accompaniment by Young, De Maria, Morris, and others. The fourth sheet (and third program) focuses on the poetry, music and theater work of Mac Low. Also held over two nights, April 8 and 9, 1961, the pieces are based on works composed between 1955 and 1961 and performed with help from Diane Wakowski, Robert Dunn, Shimon Tamari, Joan Kelly, John Perreault, and Iris Lezak.A wonderful collection of ephemera from a pivot moment in the development of Fluxus. .
