        On the Road

New York: Viking. 1957. First. Fine in a very near fine dustwrapper with the red on the spine very slightly faded, a little rubbing at the spinal extremities, and a few very short, unobtrusive tears. Still certainly a considerably nicer than usual copy with none of the usually pernicious restoration seen in so many copies. .

        The Cat in the Hat

Random House 1957 - While clearly loved, this copy remains well-kept. The pages show a little gentle spotting at the first five leaves, prior owners' names penned neatly at the front free endpaper, and two more faint spots at the last two pages, but are otherwise clean and surprisingly bright; the entirety of the page block was bound as a single sewn signature in paper (not glossy) pictorial boards (with no number printed at the lower spine); the boards now show rub-through at the lower corners and spine heel, gentler rubbing at head and heel edges and spine head, a short, closed tear in the lower joint, and just a little faint age-toning at head and heel, otherwise quite clean and bright. The dust jacket is, unfortunately, priceclipped but has a description at the front flap describing the anticipated success of the book and its raison d'etre (the rear flap has a picture and biography of the author, and no publish/print location); the chalkboard depicted at the rear says only "Educators hail The CAT in the HAT*" and gives four reviews, a miniature repeat of the front cover, a publisher's address in New York 22, N.Y., and no mention whatever of the Beginner Books to come. The jacket shows a short, closed tear with accompanying creases at the lower rear, a very short crease and tear at the upper rear, short, partially open tears with creasing at the spine head and heel, modest surface creasing at the spine and foreedges, rubbing and a little chipping at corners and spine tips, a little toning and surface soil evident in the white areas of the rear panel, three tiny scratches at the lower front, and a little faint pencil ghosting inside the letters of the title at front where a child traced them - an oddly charming touch, considering the fact that this book, upon its hope-filled first printing, was to change our very concept of child literacy education in the United States. The jacket is now protected in a clear, removable, archivally safe sleeve, and the book now resides in a climate-controlled room. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        Kino-Erlebnisse". Eigenh. Manuskript (Fragment).

      O. O. u. D., [Januar 1957]. - 1 S. Gr.-4to.
