Das Kind im Berghotel I. Aquarell.

1957 - In Aquarell monogrammiert. - Katalog Galerie Westenhoff 1986, Kat. 28. GO Archiv Nr. 85. . - In den Ecken lose unter Passepartout montiert.         Town

1957 - FAULKNER, William. The Town. New York: Random House, (1957). Octavo, original tan cloth, original acetate dust jacket. Housed in a custom slipcase. $3000.Signed limited first edition, number 227 of 450 copies signed by Faulkner. The second novel in Faulkner’s celebrated Snopes trilogyâ€"which began with The Hamlet (1940) and ended with The Mansion (1959)â€"emerges as a study in contrast: while there are “lots of narrative eddies, many of them swirling with good humor,” passages such as Eula’s suicide are “wrenching, and one understands why the author told Jean Stein that he had been reduced to tears while writing it. He was saying good-bye to his fantasies” (Parini, 394-96). While the book received many negative reviews, “reviewers in the main missed… the grandeur of the scheme, the size of the enterprise, the attempt… to write the epic not only of Yoknapatawpha but of the South… [Faulkner] had not completely forsaken the adventurousness of his earlier work” (Karl, 959).         From Russia, With Love (a James Bond novel).

London: Jonathan Cape, 1957., 1957. First Impression, Binding A. Publisher's hardback binding in pictorial dustjacket by Richard Chopping, correctly priced at 13/6. A beautiful near fine copy. The book is particularly fresh with bright foil-work and clean page edges. Jacket also crisp and fresh with a trivial amount wear to spine ends and one small chip to crown, ever so slightly age-toned to backstrip. Most unusual in this condition. This entry in the legendary James Bond series is an absolute classic; 007 does battle with SMERSH, the Soviet organisation of vengeance, interrogation, torture and death, and in particular their fearsome executioner Red Grant.         Atlas Shrugged (First Edition, inscribed in the year of publication)

New York: Random House, 1957. First Edition. First Edition. INSCRIBED in the year of publication: "To William W. Brainard, Jr. / With the compliments of our mutual friend John C. Gall / Cordially / Ayn Rand / 9/17/57." A wonderful association copy of the author's masterpiece. Brainard was a "gentleman farmer" from New Jersey ("a livestock farmer in a dinner jacket, per TIME Magazine), and distinguished himself on the popular level by being a judge at the Westminster Dog Show in 1958, 1972, and 1976, and as director of the American Whippet Club. The "mutual friend" John Gall mentioned by Rand is one of the inspirations for another major character in the book, John Galt. Fine and unread in an about Fine dust jacket. Jacket is unrestored, with uniformly deep colors and a brilliant, unblemished and unfaded topstain--only a touch of rubbing at the crown to note and none of the usual toning to the spine. Only once before have we seen an association copy inscribed in the year of publication. In a custom quarter leather clamshell box.

        Night Fighter [Double Signed]

Published by Collins 14 St. James's Place, London First Edition 1957. 1957. First edition hard back binding in publisher's original black paper covered boards, gilt title and author lettering to the spine. 8vo. 8½'' x 5½''. Contains 382 printed pages of text with monochrome photographs throughout. Minor foxing to the top edge. Near Fine condition book in Fine condition dust wrapper, not price clipped 18s. The partnership of Rawnsley and Cunningham began in the winter of 1940 and in the first five months of 1941 it was responsible for the destruction of a dozen enemy aircraft, by 1944 the score was nearing 20. Rawnsley skillfully recreates the strange world in which he and Cunningham flew; the hazards and weariness of night flying, the patient mastering of the idiosyncrasies of airborne radar and spectacular rewards that the cathode tube and flying of exceptional quality could and did together achieve. Double SIGNED by the author [observer and navigator] and the leading night fighter pilot of the second world war to the half-title page 'C. F. Rawnsley' and 'John Cunningham'. Unique. Small newspaper obituary loosely enclosed. Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection, it does not adhere to the book or to the dust wrapper. Member of the P.B.F.A.
