        Typed letter signed ("C. G. Jung"). Küsnacht-Zürich, 23. VI. 1954.

1954. Large 8vo. 1 p. Addenda. To E. A. Bennet, about disputes among his London disciples: "[...] There is something in that London group I noticed already quite a while ago: a sort of unnatural prestige psychology. The way they handled the situation seems to me awfully immature and clumsy. I can't understand Fordham. The way you dealt with the situation seems to me entirely reasonable and adequate. May I keep the copies of the correspondence you sent me for a while? They might be useful in case of further discussions. I have seen Dr. Philp whom I had met once in your house. I couldn't quite make out what his theological or psychological problems are [...]". - E. A. Bennet had been Jung's foremost advocate in England since the 1930s. - On headed paper; some slight edge damage. Includes a letter to Bennet by C. A. Meier, concerning the controversy Jung discusses in his letter, some letters of response from Bennet to Jung, Meier and others, typescripts of papers by Jung's associate, Toni Wolff, "Some Principles of Dream-Interpretation" (April 1934; 36 ff.) and "A Few Thoughts on the Process of Individuation in Women" (undated; 48 ff.), as well as an obituary brochure for Toni Wolff and some related material.

La Fiction de l'Attraction Universelle. Revue Mensuelle de Sciences Physiques. Dissertation. Objections. Vulgarisation. No. 1 (January 1954) through No. 11 (August 1957) (all published)

A scarce complete run in 11 issues of the scientific and literary periodical, each issue 4 pp., issued by René Pradel as a place to record his revolutionary scientific hypotheses, with topics including the "fiction" of gravitational force, the gyroscope and Foucault's pendulum, gravity's relationship with nature, the phenomenon of the tippe top, vortices, and retrograde rotation. Illustrated throughout with diagrams and sketches. Considerable toning, especially along old crease lines; some small tears. Tabloid. Self-wrpps., housed in a cardboard portfolio. Paris 1954-1957. Pradel was originally a watchmaker from the town of Sarcelles, who wanted to abolish Newton's idea of gravitational force and convince the world of his new ideas. The ideas presented here are often radical and sometimes at odds with accepted scientific theory. Incredibly scarce; as of June 2016, WorldCat locates only a single holding at the Bibliothèque Nationale, and none in North America.

Autograph letter signed ("Ernie"). [Madrid], 24. V. 1954.

1954. 8vo. 2 pp. on bifolium. To George Brown, the owner of a gymnasium in Manhattan, Hemingway's personal trainer, boxing coach, and friend. In early 1954 Ernest and Mary Hemingway suffered two near-fatal plane crashes in Uganda, and Hemingway's injuries were extensive. According to Carlos Baker, "The crash at Butiaba and the fire at Shimoni had [...] left him no more than a shadow of his former vigor [...]". - "Just got your letter of Jan 14 George forwarded back from Nairobi. Sure glad you liked the first hooks piece with the pictures. We'd only been out 4-5 weeks then and I wasn't really in shape. In 5 months of that stuff got down to under 190 before those crashes. Now no exercise since Jan 23-24th except early necessary damaging exercise (pitching rocks left-handed with a busted back type of exercise). Good thing I was in shape though. All doctors look at you like some kind of freak like Joe Grimm because you are alive. Am tired of being so smashed up. But always remember you and your head. We beat this one I guess but the smashed vertebrae etc is a no good rap [...]" ([Madrid], May 24, 1954).

Liber secretorum ... De virtutibus herbarum: & animalium quorundam. Eiusdemq[ue] liber De mirabilibus mundi: & etiam de quibusdam effectibus causatis a quibusdam animalibus &c.(Colophon: Venice, Johan Baptist Sessa, 12 February 1502). Small 4to (21 x 15.5 cm). With a large woodcut portrait of the author at his desk. Gold-tooled maroon morocco (ca. 1870/90?) for James Carnegie, 9th Earl of Southesk (1827-1905), gilt edges.

Earl of Southesk sale, Sotheby, 18 October 1954, 255 (this copy); EDIT16 CNCE 29555 (2 copies); Honeyman 51 (this copy); KVK & WorldCat (5 copies). Rare early edition (one of perhaps four or five early editions with the main text set in a roman type) of two works written ca. 1300 by an unidentified follower of Albertus Magnus concerning the extraordinary properties (magical, astrological, medicinal, etc.) of 16 plants, 45 minerals or gems and 18 animals (including many birds), and concerning the "wonders of the world". The first includes means to become invisible, feel no pain, arouse love, interpret dreams and make prophesies. The second includes mental manipulation of matter, cures for diseases, magic made with fire or light, means of breaking charms, and seeing the future in dreams. The woodcut is remarkable for its depiction of both numerous books with bosses, clasps, etc., and numerous accoutrements, such as a wedge-shaped book stand, a copy stand in the form of a four-sided pyramid on a pedestal, pens, ink wells and penknives. Senna used it again in 1504 on the title-page of John Pecham's Perspectiva communis. Though this edition, like many others, attributes the works to Albertus Magnus (ca. 1194?-1280) on the title-page and at the end of the texts, the attribution is believed to be spurious. An attribution to his follower Henry of Saxony (d. ca. 1378) has also been challenged. With a faded inscription in red ink below the colophon, in a 16th-century italic hand. With the engraved armorial bookplate of James, Earl of Southesk, on the front pastedown. With a short worm trail at the head of the last 2 leaves, and a small marginal chip (repaired) and tear, neither approaching the text, but otherwise in very good condition. The binding shows some small minor blemishes and its spine is slightly faded, but it is otherwise fine. A rare early edition of a popular book of botanical, mineral and zoological wonders.

Ha'argaz Cooperative /Printed by Erez of 82 Frishman Street, Tel Aviv., Tel Aviv, Israel 1954 - The leaves are printed on one side only, this being a mimeograph. A second seder in Israel is like a "third seder" in the diaspora, since in Israel one celebrates only one seder. Back in 1954 Haargaz was not yet the big conglomerate is later became. The reference in one of the pages to Jerry cans is because Haargaz produced those for the IDF, in addition to other products. The fancy Chausson buses introduced in Israel in the mid 1950's were painted in Haargaz, as were many other products. in 1954 Haargaz had grown to Haargaz and Amkor (the refrigerators manufacturer).         Les Fondements du Judo par Yves KLEIN, Quatrième Dan du Kodokan. Préface de Ichiro Abe.

Paris, Bernard Grasset, 1954. 14 x 23 cm, 205 p., couv. ill. coul.
