Hunt, John; Edmund Hillary (Tenzing Norgay)
London: Hodder & Houghton, 1953. First edition of this account of the 1953 British conquest of Everest. Octavo, original blue cloth, with eight color photographic plates, 48 half-tone plates and many in-text illustrations after pen-and-ink sketches. Signed by Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay (on the frontispiece of Norgay opposite the title page), Jim Whittaker, Jon Krakauer and Thomas Hornbein. Hillary and Norgay became the first two individuals to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953 as part of the 1953 British Everest expedition led by British Army officer John Hunt. Hunt named two two-man teams to make the final ascent to the summit and placed Hillary with Nepali-Indian Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay who had participated as a high-altitude porter in three official British attempts to climb Everest from the northern Tibetan side in the 1930s. Tenzing later wrote that Hillary took the first step onto the summit and he followed. They reached Everest's 29,028 ft summit - the highest point on earth - at 11:30 am on May 29th 1953. The event marked a culminating moment in mountaineering history, and one of the great achievements of human stamina and will which garnered worldwide attention. American mountaineer Jim Whittaker was the first American to reach the summit of Mount Everest as a member of the 1963 American Mount Everest Expedition led by Norman Dyhrenfurth. American mountaineers Thomas Hornbein and Willi Unsoeld were the first to attempt an ascent of Everest's West Ridge. American mountaineer John Krakauer wrote the 1997 bestselling book Into Thin Air, … [Click Below for Full Description]

Ray Bradbury
New York: Ballantine, 1953. True first edition. Very good inscribed-signed by Ray Bradbury. Fahrenheit 451 Ray Bradbury New York: Ballantine, 1953. Softcover, wrappers. Very good. First Edition, First Printing. Paperbound, which preceded the hardback trade edition a month and half before Ballantine Books released the general hardbound issue. The one Bradbury book that keeps getting more costly each year; especially a first edition copy from 1953 as is the copy offered here. A have a high spot book in the science fiction genre. Ray Bradbury considered Fahrenheit 451 to be the only science fiction book he wrote. I'm not so sure about that but what is incredible is that Fahrenheit 451 never once went out of print since it it's strangely prophetic dystopian future about society and books was presented to a public starved for a new take on science fiction. It was from a unique and unusually creative mind that everyone could relate with. From 1953 until the present time Fahrenheit 451 never once went out of print invading schools as required reading and embedding itself into the American culture. That one fact should be enough to move a person to buy this now moderately priced first edition with an inscription to the owner of Phantom Bookshop and friend for nearly three decades, John Anthony Miller. (Miller had an association with Ray Bradbury for 28 years and hosted many very successful book-signings by this author at Phantom Bookshop. A Letter of Authenticity is included regarding the inscription and signature. Sorry to say but I am seeing forged Bradbury signatures on the mark … [Click Below for Full Description]

Yutkevich was also a notable film historian, teaching at the Moscow Institute of Cinematography, where he was given the rank of professor in 1940.
