        Adolf Hitler. Mein Frieden.

Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl

Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc, 1952. "First Edition" is so stated on the copyright page. Very Good condition in a Good+ dust jacket. SEE PHOTOS. The jacket is protected by a removable Brodart sleeve (removed for photos). NOT price-clipped ($3.00). The spine of the jacket is still distinctly red and quite bright (only a little faded -- much less than many other copies which are very faded or even no longer red at all but sun-bleached to white. If you care about condition, be sure to see a photo of the jacket's spine when considering other copies). The jacket has a few small edge chips and a crease to the corner of its rear turn-in flap. SEE PHOTOS. Top edge tinted red. Square and unmarked. NO owner's name or bookplate. NOT a remainder. This is the first printing of the first American Edition, and the first to be translated into English. The rear panel of the dust jacket does NOT have a numeric code [explained below]. Endpapers are illustrated with photographs, tinted BROWN [explained below]. This is a desirable copy of a book tough-to-find in First Edition. [Note: We have examined several other copies of this title, also dated 1952, that had green-tinted endpaper photos or plain white endpapers. However, all of them lacked the "First Edition" statement on the copyright page. Unlike this first edition, many of these later printings had the code "125" on the rear panel of the dust jacket at the lower left bottom corner]. Illustrated with 3 diagrams (floor plans) of the annex, and brown-tinted endpaper photos. Anne Frank's diary encompasses the period from June 1942 to July 1944, during which time the Frank family was hidden by friends in a Dutch warehouse. This book was first published in 1947 in Dutch as HET ACHTERHUIS. First issue jacket with $3.00 price at top right, just below the front inner flap code ("A.F.:T.D.O.A.Y.G.") SEE PHOTOS. Szonyi 51 and 184: "The famous account of a [German born] Dutch Jewish girl's ordeal in hiding, THE DIARY captures both the physical claustrophobia of hiding and a sensitive adolescent's hopes for the future." Laska 1500. Edelheit 3696. Snyder 149: Anne Frank (1929-45) was a German-Jewish girl who with her family hid from the Gestapo in Amsterdam for two years and died in Belsen concentration camp. An immediate sensation, her diary was translated eventually into thirty-two languages and later became a successful stage play and motion picture." A Snyder asterisk item, meaning one he regards as "outstanding." Bound in the original black cloth, stamped in shiny silver on the spine. Complete with dust jacket. 5.25" wide by 7.5" tall.. First Printing of the First US Edition. Hardcover. Very Good condition/Good+ dust jacket. Illus. by Suess, Ursula (jacket design). 285pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

En attendant Godot: pièce en deux Actes

Paris: les èditions de Minuit, 1952 First edition, first printing. Original publisher's white paper wrappers, lettered in blue and black. Near fine or better, with some faint creasing to the spine, a hint of faint soiling to the otherwise fresh wrappers, very minor toning to the otherwise clean pages. Overall, a very bright and handsome copy. En attendant Godot is an absurdist play about two main characters, Vladimir and Estragon, who converse in witty and amusing banter while they wait for Godot, who ultimately never arrives. Beckett, an Irish author and native English speaker, moved to France and subsequently transitioned from writing in English to French, including this play. In 1954, Beckett translated this text from its original French into English, and it was published in London by Faber and Faber in 1956 under the English title Waiting for Godot. The play originally premiered in Paris at the Théâtre de Babylone in January 1953, and this true first edition uses the text from that production; the subsequent English edition contains the text used by the Criterion Theater for its production of the play after the London premier in August 1955 at the Arts Theater, including the "small number of textual deletions" that were made as per Lord Chamberlain's requirements in accordance with the strict UK theater censorship of the 1950's. Many subsequent productions have since altered Beckett's original text, leading to a bit of a discrepancy as to which version is the definitive text, but this French text is irrefutably the original. Regardless, Waiting for Godot is a theatrical masterpiece- "its form is unusual: its contents weird, its chief themes are madness, boredom, suffering, cruelty: yet the effect of its inspired cross-talk is hilarious.". 1st Edition.. Soft Cover. Near Fine.

The War Speeches of the Rt Hon Winston S Churchill

London: Cassell and Company Ltd., 1952. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. This the first edition, first printing of the three-volume "definitive" edition of Churchill's war speeches, published during Churchill's second and final premiership. During his long public life, Winston Churchill played many roles worthy of historical note - member of Parliament for more than half a century, distinguished soldier and war correspondent, author of scores of books, ardent social reformer, combative cold warrior, Nobel Prize winner, painter. But his enduring preeminence owes most to his indispensible leadership during the Second World War, when his soaring and defiant oratory sustained his countrymen and inspired the free world. Of Churchill, Edward R. Murrow said: "He mobilized the English language and sent it into battle." Between 1941 and 1946, Churchill's war speeches were published in seven individual volumes. In 1952, during Churchill's second premiership, the publisher reissued the War Speeches as a new, three-volume edition. This edition is, in many ways, superior to the original seven wartime editions in both aesthetics and content. Gone is the cheap economy paper of the wartime editions. The binding is a heavy navy cloth with attractive, uniform dust jackets. Further, the books measure a substantial 10 x 6.25 inches. New speeches are added, as is a very helpful index. Some of the original speeches considered peripheral are eliminated while others are retitled and chronological dates are replaced with brief transitional or introductory notes. These sets have become scarce in the original dust jackets in collectible condition. Here is a near fine first printing set in very good dust jackets. The blue cloth bindings are square and tight with sharp corners and bright spine gilt. The contents are bright and notably clean; the only place in the set we find even a trace of spotting is to the first free endpapers. Even the page edges are atypically clean. The sole previous ownership mark is the same previous owner's initials and last name inked to the first free endpaper of all three volumes. The dust jackets are unclipped with only minor wear to extremities, mostly the spine ends. We note mild toning to the jacket spines, minor soiling and spotting, and a small ink mark near the author's name on the Volume Two spine. The only loss of note is a .25 inch chip to the Volume Three lower rear face, and the only damage of note a barely discernible three-inch closed tear to the Volume Three upper front face. The dust jackets are protected in removable, archival quality clear covers. Bibliographic reference: Cohen A263.1(I-III).a, Woods/ICS A136(a.1), Langworth p.303.
