Walt Disney boldly signs a letter about the Snow White Coronation Ball, with his distinctive flourish

Burbank, CA, February 5, 1952. 7" x 10.25". "Single page TLS on Walt Disney's letterhead, 7"" x 10.25"". Signed ""Walt Disney"", and dated ""February 5, 1952"". Page lightly toned to outer edge, with a few small stains. Pencil marks located to front. Expected folds. Stapled to the personal postmarked envelope which includes Disney's typed address of ""Walt Disney/2400 South Alameda Ave/Burbank, California"", 7.5"" x 4"", with age toning along the left outer edge.A wonderful letter with great content, boldly signed by Walt Disney with his large distinctive flourish. He was writing to Governor Payne of Maine, addressing the ""the beautiful scroll"" he received, inviting him ""to attend the Snow White Coronation Ball at the Somerset Hotel in Boston"". Snow White was enjoying a huge resurgence as it was being re-released in February at the time of this letter. But perhaps of most interest was his revealing response, as he addressed both the strong production schedule during this high growth period for Disney Studios, and most certainly alluded to what was to culminate in the March 27th announcement of a $1.5 million development called Disneyland. ""… this affair could not come at a worse time for me. We are in the middle of getting under way our heaviest production schedule in years, and I have so many important decisions to make in the next few weeks that to leave here for only a few days would present a serious problem""A fantastic letter for a Disney aficionado. Would be stunning framed!"

Schwarz Editore 1952 - FIRST EDITION, 7/300 COPIES (from an edition of 350 copies) signed by the author, printed on Fabriano paper with the title-page printed in black and blue and a facsimile of a manuscript page printed in green, 5 plates from pencil drawings by Giorgio Morandi, pp. 84, [iv], 4to, original wrappers printed in black and blue, a little corner creasing, tissue jacket a little frayed and browned to edges with backstrip panel lacking, Clipping of Charles Tomlinson's translation of the opening 'Monologhetto' laid in, good. A presentation copy of this late work from perhaps the foremost Italian poet of the twentieth-century - inscribed by the author on publication 'Per la Signora Antonini e Giacomo Antonini, il caro amico, Giuseppe Ungaretti'. The recipient was an eminent literary critic, with his wife Moussia, who shared with the poet the shame of a fascist past - whilst Ungaretti played an active role in Mussolini's government, Antonini collaborated more discreetly as an informer to the OVRA ((Opera Volontaria di Repressione Antifascista).

        Autograph postcard signed

1952 - ROOSEVELT, Eleanor. Autograph postcard signed. India, 1952. Printed photographic postcard, measuring 5-1/2 by 3-1/2 inches, inked manuscript hand on verso, stamps and postmarks above address. $3600.Printed photographic postcard depicting the Lahori Gate in Fort Delhi addressed entirely in Eleanor Roosevelt's hand to a Mr. Robert Largo and with a message also written by Roosevelt that reads: "Dear Mr. Largo, Thank you for your wise note. Very Sincerely. Eleanor Roosevelt."This wonderful autograph postcard was written during Eleanor Roosevelt's trip through Asia in 1952. Her travels took her through the Middle East, then to Pakistan, then India, and finally to Nepal. Ultimately, her favorable impressions helped to influence America's perceptions of India as both a potential democracy and as a potential ally. In a speech, Roosevelt said, "So I've come back with tremendous hope that India is going to be the country of Asia"""a statement that had consequences for India's future in trade and politics. With two India stamps affixed to verso and usual postal markings.A fine autograph signed item. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

The Old Man and the Sea

New York: Charles Scribner's & Sons, 1952. First edition. Octavo, original light blue cloth. Near fine in an excellent first issue dust jacket with the blue tint and $3.00 price with light rubbing and wear to the extremities. Upon its publication in 1952 by Charles Scribner's Sons, The Old Man and the Sea was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction the following year and was cited by the Nobel Committee as contributing to the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Hemingway in 1954. The novel reinvigorated Hemingway's literary reputation. It initiated a reexamination of his entire body of work. The novel was received with such alacrity, that it restored many readers' confidence in Hemingway's capability as an author. Indeed, the publisher even wrote on an early dust jacket, calling the novel a "new classic," and it was compared by many critics to such revered works as William Faulkner's "The Bear" and Herman Melville's Moby-Dick.

The Spanish Heritage of the Southwest: Twelve Drawings by Jose Cisneros

Texas Western Press 1952 - El Paso: Texas Western Press, 1952. Deluxe Edition. Folio (12.5" x 9.25"). Signed by Francis Fugate, Jose Cisneros, and Carl Hertzog. Original dustjacket over adobe block design boards; Of the 525 numbered copies, this is one of 50 printed on tan Ticonderoga Paper, one of a reported 24 with the first plate hand colored by Cisneros [Lowman, Printer at the Pass #78], and one of likely even fewer with the hand colored border on the frontis map. Dustjacket shows a clean 1/2 inch tear at top, as well as a few smaller tears along bottom edge. Back shows a 1 x 1/4 inch puncture near top and a smaller puncture near bottom at spine fold, as well as some light dampstaining along spine and some toning to the lower 1/4 of the back panel. Head and tail of spine are chipped. Boards are clean and square with only very light shelfwear. Pages have toned a bit, but are clean and unmarked. Binding is sound. The initial release of Hertzog's Texas Western Press, with type hand-set by his students under his supervision. Lowman states nine copies with all drawings hand painted, bound in morocco, and 24 with just the first drawing colored. A 1983 Reese catalog, however, mentions a letter from Hertzog stating that only one copy had all the plates hand colored, and that Lowman's description of the various bindings is incorrect. Regardless, this edition is the scarcest after the all-plates-colored copy. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
