Bergen Belsen, Undzer Shtime 1946 - 1st edition. Original cardstock binding, Oblong folio, 38 double-sided leaves. Published under the auspices of the Central Committee of the Liberated Jews in the British Zone. The text is in English, Hebrew, Yiddish and German. Each language has its own title page. Printed on Cardstock. Contains 115 photographs of the destruction of the Jews by the Nazis. Each page contains 3 or 4 pictures. The introduction of the book poignantly describes its purpose: "The incentive to produce this collection gave us our deepest desire to show the world the crimes of Germany, to give expression to the throttled cry of pain of the Jews. The desire to bring back our memories of Jewish Settlements which drowned in torrents of Jewish Blood. May the world have this knowledge and ponder on it. When words are too weakened too poor to convey the destruction and extermination of Jewish life, may these pictures found by accident on arrested SS soldiers, speak for themselves of the bestiality which will forever bring shame on human kind. " Lacks Attached fragile paper front coversheet, as usually found, spine rebacked, very clean and solid, Very Good Condition. (HOLO2-101-36A) [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

The Gormenghast Series: Titus Groan; Gormenghast; Titus Alone

1st Editions, 1st Printings. 438; 453; 222pp. Octavo. Three volumes: Titus Groan (1946); Gormenghast (1950); Titus Alone (1959). All three volumes bound in original red publisher's cloth with gold gilt lettering and decorations stamped to the spine. Corners slightly bumped on Titus Groan, with a very light spot of soiling to the top of the text block; Titus Alone has some mild shelf-wear to the bottom edge of the boards. Small gift inscription from previous owner to the ffep of Titus Groan. First state dust jackets on Titus Groan and Titus Alone, not price clipped; presumed first state jacket on Gormenghast, although it has been price clipped. A very moderate amount of sun fading to the jacket spines of Titus Alone and Titus Groan; the back panel of Titus Groan has some age toning and creasing to the top edge. Full page black and white illustration to the frontis of Titus Alone, done by the author; small black and white illustration to the title pages of Titus Groan and Gormenghast. All three volumes internally clean and, overall, in tight and bright condition.A wonderful set of the Gormenghast trilogy --scarce with first state jackets, especially in such good condition. This series follows the title character, Titus Groan, through infancy into young adulthood, as he struggles between his desire for personal freedom and duty towards the earldom of Gormenghast, to which he is the ruling heir. Peake intended to write at least two other works surrounding Gormenghast, but ailing health and his eventual death at age 57 prevented him from doing so. The art on the dust jackets and on the title pages and frontis were illustrated by Peake as well. An attractive and imaginative set.

KZ. Mauthausen. Bild und Wort von Dipl-Ing. S. Wiesenthal, ehem. pol. KZ.-Häftling Nr. 127371.

Linz u. Wien, Ibis 1946. 4°. 57 nn.       Sofia: Septembrijce, May . 1946 - 8°, 54 pp. with illustrations within text, [1], original illustrated blue wrappers (Very good, margins hardly are-toned, cover slightly dusty with scuffed corners). A rare children's poetry book with a strong WWII, Communist, pro-Soviet Union and Georgi Dimitrov propaganda, was written by a famous Bulgarian writer Assen Bossev (Asen Bosev, 1913-1987). The September in the title refers to September 1944, when Bulgaria during WWII left the Axis forces, and joined the Allies and the Soviet Union. In 1946, when this book was published, the Bulgarian Communist leader Georgi Dimitrov, and the president of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, formed an alliance, which fell apart two years later in 1948, when Yugoslavia also broke contact with the rest of the Communist Eastern Bloc countries. We could only trace one example in the libraries worldwide (National Library in Sofia).

Wilfred Rabbit and Augustus Fox [with] the original artwork

Slim 4to. London: Harrap, 1946. Slim 4to, [30]pp. printed in color with illustrations on every page and 7 full-page illustrations within the pagination. Original color-printed boards, blue cloth backstrip, a little darkened around the edges. The original artwork, present in two versions (see below). First edition of the book accompanied by a set of all the original watercolors for the book with the text written out calligraphically, and a second set of some 22 watercolors with the text in printed format (as in the final version) -- this latter probably being an early maquette or mock-up for the final version. The first set is likely to be the way Thornhill originally envisioned the book being printed but for whatever reason (perhaps cost) the publisher decided to set the text in type-- hence the mock-up and second set of watercolors. Other books by Thornhill include Puffer, Muffer and Pip-Pip (1943), Wilmot Lamb and his Friends (1946), Bosky Goldfish (1948), The Blue Elephant (1948), and The Winkle Society (1952). Oddly absent from institutions -- only four copies listed on OCLC, none in the US.
