Gr.-4°. Kultur an. "Cultural Anthropologists who use photographic documentation in research or teaching, will learn much from this monumental attempt to provide acomprehensive, illustrated "natural history" of a marginal contemporary Malaysian Society." (American Anthropologist, Vol. 61, Dec.1959, S. 1133). "This first edition was largely destroyed by fire during the air-raids and was soon out of print......"(Zitat von Segawa aus dem Vorwort der zweiten und einzigen weiteren Auflage).

        Death Comes as The End

For the Crime Club by Collins, London, 1945.. For the Crime Club by Collins, London, 1945., 1945. FIRST EDITION. 8vo., Publisher's orange cloth in original pictorial dust-wrapper priced 7/6. Book is near fine, but for some nominal age-realted handling, in near fine jacket showing some dustiness to upper panel. White rear panel is particularly fresh. A most attractive copy. A groundbreaking novel in which Christie anticipates the modern popularity of historical detective stories by setting her murder plot in ancient Egypt. The book was fully researched, with each chapter scrutinised by leading Egyptologist Prof. Stephen Glanville, who was a colleague of the author's husband, British Museum archaeologist Max Mallowan. Christie accompanied the pair on many excavations and travelled extensively throughout Egypt and the Holy Land. She had a great knowledge of the area and was a junior member of archaeology team. 'Death Comes as the End' is one of several of her books set in the Middle East. Other classics include 'Murder on the Orient Express'(Syria,1934), 'Murder in Mesopotamia' (Iraq,1936), 'Death on the Nile' (Egypt,1937), 'Appointment with Death' (Jerusalem, 1938), and 'They Came to Baghdad' (Iraq,1951).

        Animal Farm

London: Secker and Warburg,, 1945. London: Secker and Warburg,, 1945. A Fairy Story. Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine in white. With the dust jacket. Fading to head and tail of spine, cornersof boards a little bumped. An excellent copy in a rubbed and slightly chipped jacket with a couple of tiny closed tears and small puncture to front panel. First edition, first impression. Literary agents Christy & Moore's copy with their label pasted on the front free endpaper, beneath the pencil inscription: "File copy. 17.8.45". Christy & Moore were Orwell's literary agents throughout his literary career, from 1932 until his death. In 1932, after his manuscript for Down and Out in Paris and London was rejected by both Jonathan Cape and Faber & Faber Orwell gave it to his friend Mabel Fierz so that she could re-use the paper clips, or do what she liked with it. Fierz took it to Leonard Moore of Christy & Moore who had it published by the new publishing house Gollancz. It was in a letter to Moore, regarding the publication of Down and Out that Orwell first used his pseudonym.
