Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.: Univ of Chicago Press, 1941. This is NOT an ex library book. This is Part I only. Published June 1941. Translated from the German by Mrs. Keith C. Seele. Many of the plates are of archival photos. To the top corner of the front pastedown, in a very neat and small ink hand, previous owner name and date. Else a clean volume, and rather tight. Respectfully read. No dust jacket [as issued?]. A Very Good Plus copy. With thanks to The Oriental Institute, University of Chicago: "Ramesses III’s great temple complex at Medinet Habu is distinguished from other royal mortuary temples in Egypt above all by the circumstance that much of the temple structure itself still stands and that excavation has made comparatively clear the entire temenos with all subsidiary structures, fortifications, and the like. Thus in Medinet Habu as nowhere else in Egypt are revealed the entire plan of such a large and rich temple complex and to some extent the cult and administration carried on within its walls. This extensive architectural creation of Ramesses III is the subject of Volumes III and IV of The Excavation of Medinet Habu. Each individual structure can really be understood only in its relation to the entire layout. On the other hand, it is impossible to gain an idea of the whole without first understanding the significance of each part. We therefore begin our treatise with a discussion of individual structures and groups of buildings and close with a comprehensive picture of the entire complex. The present volume is concerned only with the structures of the inner temple area, and a description of the Ramesseum is included for purposes of comparison.". First Edition. Buckram. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall.

THE LAST TYCOON: AN UNFINISHED NOVEL; TOGETHER WITH THE GREAT GATSBY AND SELECTED SHORT STORIES [“May Day,” “The Diamond as Big as the Ritz,” “The Rich Boy,” “Absolution” and “Crazy Sunday”]

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1941. First Edition; First Printing. Hard Cover. near Good dust jacket. Octavo. A scarce first printing of Fitzgerald's final novel, edited by Edmund Wilson after Fitzgerald's death. Many feel it was shaping up to be his finest. Given its size it was packaged with several of his early short stories as well as The Great Gatsby. Surprisingly, this was only the fifth appearance of The Great Gatsby, preceded by the first two Scribner's printings in 1925, a British edition, and the scarce Modern Library edition in 1934. Also included in this edition are some of Fitzgerald's most successful short stories; a very nice copy in blue cloth; offsetting at the endpaper else contents clean and binding sound; there is a faint vertical soft crease to the first dozen or so leaves running parallel with fore-edge about 1/2” in (very minor); dust jacket retains its $2.75 price on the front flap; generally shelfworn with loss at the top and bottom of the spine affecting the author's name; now protected in a mylar cover; additional images available upon request.         ???????? Picture-Story Show: Ikky?-san

Tokyo: Shink?-sha ???. Showa 16. [1941]. Scarce Japanese kamishibai (paper theatre) stage, glass screen and complete set of 14 cards. Kamishibai frame illustrated by Koide Shin’ichi ????. Text and illustrations of the Ikky?-san story by Kiyohara Takashi ?????. Paper and card theatre shows some insect damage and wear with a few occasional marks. First card a little creased, cards foxed and soiled in places. Kamishibai or Japanese paper theatre had its heyday in the first half of the 20th century before television sounded the beginning of its demise. Kamishibai men, or very occasionally women, were most commonly itinerate street story tellers who sold sweets to their eager audiences of children as a way of ekeing out a living. They had wooden stages which they usually transported around by bicycle. When they arrived at the place where they would give their performance they attracted the attention of local children by clapping two wooden sticks together. With an audience assembled they began by selling sweet and then told their story using the illustrated boards, slipping one in front of another in the grooves of the stage as the story progressed. Kamishibai was influenced by the culture in which it thrived, with cinema being a particularly strong influence. It covered all styles almost always with a strong moral tone. During the Second World War kamishibai was extensively used to send out a nationalist message. Stories were exciting! The kamishibai men often leaving the story mid-point on a cliff hanger, so the children would return the next day. Kamishibai may not be performed on street corners in Tokyo anymore but its influence lives on in the many manga artists who emerged from the kamishibai industry. The theme of this toy kamishibai is Ikky?-S?jun ???? [1394-1481] a Buddhist priest of Daitoku-ji Temple who is well known to Japanese audiences as an intelligent, witty, problem solver. Since childhood Ikky?-S?jun was regarded as a very talented and witty person and there are many anecdotes and stories which tell of his wit. There are three stories in this kamishibai set, Ikky?-san and his friend Chikusai feature in two of them and their master in a third. (Manga Kamishibai. The Art of the Japanese Paper Theater - Eric P. Nash. 2009). .

Juni 1966 in Bad Mergentheim).[1][2].         Raskens. En soldatfamiljs historia. I-II. Elfte upplagan.

Stockholm; Bonniers, 1941. (Vår egen tids bästa moderna svenska berättare, utvalda av Radiotjänst). 19x13 cm. 210 & (4, 1 blank), 212-380 s. Två volymer i förlagets tryckta linneband. Pärmhörnen lätt tilltryckta. Fina inlagor.

The Black Cat (Original screenplay for the 1941 film)

Universal Pictures, Universal City, CA 1941 - Draft script for the 1941 film. The 1941 version of "The Black Cat" is neither a remake of Edgar G. Ulmer's 1934 Karloff-Lugosi film of the same name, nor does it bear much relation to the Edgar Allan Poe story (though, in fairness, neither did the 1934 version). It is more of a horror-comedy affair than its predecessor, with Broderick Crawford and Hugh Herbert in the lead, Bela Lugosi reappearing (now in the more minor role of "Eduardo"), and Basil Rathbone ably handling the part of the shady Mr. Hartley. Shot by the legendary Stanley Cortez of "Magnificent Ambersons" fame. (Hal Erickson, Rovi)Gray titled wrappers, noted as FILE COPY on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped production No. 6856, dated January 29, 1941. 91 leaves, mimeograph, dated variously between 5/23/40 and 6/1/40. Pages Near Fine. Wrappers Very Good plus or better, with slight toning and a few short creases and tears at the extremities, a small faint stain on the front wrapper, and a professionally repaired vertical tear at the rear wrapper, bound with three gold brads. Weaver, pp. 250-255. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
