        Eigenh. Brief mit U. ("Freud").

[Wien], 5. XI. 1935.. 1 SS. Gr.-4to..

        Quack, Quack!

London: The Hogarth Press,, 1935. Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine gilt. With the dust jacket designed by E. McKnight Kauffer. 4 plates. Spine rolled and lightly faded, some mild foxing to contents; an excellent copy in the bright, lightly rubbed jacket with some nicks and shallow chips to extremities, and some loss to head of spine and front panel, affecting titles. First edition, first impression. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author to John Maynard Keynes's wife Lydia Lopovoka on the front free endpaper ("Lydia, from L. W. July, 1935"). Russian ballet dancer Lopokova became a reluctantly accepted member of the Bloomsbury group after marrying Keynes in 1925. Though the group initially snubbed Lopokova, some of them later regretted their snobbery. E. M. Forster, for example, wrote: "How we all used to underestimate her", and Virginia Woolf eventually came to admire her charm and vivacity, evolving Septimus's wife Rezia in her novel Mrs Dalloway from impressions she had of the dancer.

Seven Pillars of Wisdom A Triumph

London: Jonathan Cape,, 1935. Quarto. Original brown buckram, spine lettered gilt, inscription "the sword also means clean-ness + death" framed by two scimitars on the front board gilt, top edge brown, other edges untrimmed. Photogravure frontispiece, 53 plates and 4 folding maps. Cloth a little rubbed, a little faint scattered foxing to contents. An excellent copy. First edition, first impression of the UK trade edition. Inscribed by Ronald Storrs (1881-1955) on the front pastedown, "T. E. Lawrence - even apart from his work, & without his book, a standard & a touchstone for reality in life. Ronald Storrs. 6.v.36." A superb association: diplomat Storrs "was part of the Arab bureau formed in Cairo in December 1915, to which T. E. Lawrence was attached in January 1916, and a shared interest in classics led to a lasting friendship between the two men (Storrs was the principal pallbearer at Lawrence's funeral in 1935). On 10 June 1916 Hussein raised the Arab revolt, but the momentum seemed uncertain and in October 1916 Storrs secured permission to take Lawrence as a companion on a mission to Jiddah to reorganize it" (ODNB). This is O'Brien's so-called "Third English Edition," following the Oxford Times edition of 1922 (of which there were eight copies), and the 1926 Cranwell edition (limited to 211 copies, with just 170 of them complete).

Autograph musical manuscript signed

Folio (ca. 360 x 273 mm). [i] (title), 20, [i] (blank) pp. Notated in black ink on music paper with 20 printed staves per page. Scored for double choir and piano. The work begins in A minor, in 3/4, Très Allant (quasi Allo). Textual incipit: "Dans la forêt où rien ne bouge..." The engraver's copy, prepared for the publishing house Alphonse Leduc et Cie. With the autograph signature ("Henri Busser") and date ("Paris, Août 15") to p. 20. Occasional erasures and corrections in black ink in the composer's hand. Lower edge of title with publisher's handstamps and manuscript date ("[19]35") and plate number ("A.L. 19,198") in an early hand. Numerous editorial markings, minor annotations, and occasional corrections in one or more early hands in pencil and red crayon. Slightly worn and soiled; minor ink smudges to 3 pages slightly affecting notation. . A piano-vocal edition of Le Petit Chaperon, with plate number A.L. 19,198, was published by Alphonse Leduc in 1935. The work is not cited in Grove online. "Firmly rooted in the French 19th-century tradition, BüsserÂ’s symphonic and choral writing is indebted to Gounod and Saint-Saëns. He is best known, however, for his dramatic works, which betray Wagner's impact in both their form and their use of the orchestra. The influence of Debussy, whose advice Büsser sought over the opera that became his most successful, Colomba (c1902–10), is also evident in certain harmonic procedures and in an acute sensitivity to orchestral colour. The ballets, such as the light-hearted La ronde des saisons (1905) with its amusing descriptive touches, provide further evidence of his keen dramatic sense." Barbara L. Kelly in Grove Music Online.

Chansons de plein air à trois voix égales sans accompagnement Poésies de Charles Clerc. 1. A cheval. 2. Le joli jeu. 3. En canotant. 4. En pédalant. 5. Foot ball. 6. Teuf, teuf. Autograph musical manuscript signed

      - The Chansons de plein air iwere published by Leduc in 1935. According to Worldcat, only 2 libraries (the Bibliothèque Nationale and the Swiss National Library) possess copies of this first (and only?) edition. Not in Grove online. "Firmly rooted in the French 19th-century tradition, Büsser’s symphonic and choral writing is indebted to Gounod and Saint- Saëns. Folio (ca. 349 x 270 mm). Disbound. [i] (title), 19 pp. Notated in black ink on 15-stave music paper issued by L. Andrieu with their blindstamp to upper inner corners.         North to the Orient

New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company,, 1935. With maps by Charles A. Lindbergh. Octavo. Original dark blue cloth, titles to spine and plane design to front cover, all in silver, top edge dark blue, map endpapers. With the dust jacket, housed in a custom blue buckram chemise and dark blue full morocco pull-off case. Portrait frontispiece, map panels above chapter headings. Tips bumped and slightly worn, a couple of light damp patches to cloth, internally fine; an excellent copy in the creased and nicked jacket, that has a couple of shallow chips to extremities. First edition, first issue. Presentation copy, inscribed by the Lindberghs on the title page to the psychoanalyst and writer Claude Delay, "For Mlle Claude Delay, with best wishes, Anne Morrow Linbergh, Charles A. Lindbergh." Delay was a close friend of Coco Chanel, and wrote her biography, Chanel Solitaire. The Lindberghs led a peripatetic life when on the ground, with homes in France, England, New Jersey, Michigan, Connecticut, Switzerland and Hawaii. The book has the requisite issue points of "Abacadabra" on p. 11, line 11, and no reviews of the book on the rear flap of the jacket. An account of the Lindberghs' flight from Long Island to Nanking by the Great Circle Route via Canada, Siberia, and Japan. The trip was made in Tingmissartoq - Greenland Inuit for "one who flies like a big bird" - a Lockheed Sirius, a plane originally developed by Jack Northrop and Gerard Vultee to meet Charles Linbergh's requirements for a low-winged, high-performance monoplane, in this case retrofitted as a float-plane. Includes an account of the Lindberghs' services bringing aid on the Yangtze to the victims of the Central China Floods of 1931, one of the deadliest natural disasters of the twentieth century. Tingmissartoq is now in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC.
