Tokunaga, S. et al.
Tokyo, Asahi, 1934-1939. Four volumes in four. 4to (26.0 x 19.0 cm). Ca. 700 pp. with 124 plates and three folding coloured maps. Original uniform printed stiff wrappers. This is the rare, complete geological section of the results of an expedition to northern China during the Japanese occupation. It contains important monographs such as: Saito, K.: "Mesozoic Leptolepid fishes from Jehol and Chientao"; Tokunaga, S. and Naora, N.: "Report of diggings at Ho-Chia-Kou, Ku-Hsiang-Tung, Kurin, Manchoukou", etc. Text in English and Japanese. Illustrations show fossil mammals, etc. This second section appears to be much rarer than some others, such as the zoology (section V) and anthropology (section VI) sections. In the title of the first volume, Manchoukuo is misspelled "Manchoukou". Uniform library stamp on front cover and several first blanks and/or title pages. One corner of part I bumped; third volume lacking spine cover, otherwise a very good, complete set. Nissen ZBI, 4751. [Attributes: Soft Cover]

FITZGERALD, F. SCOTT
New York: Scribner’s, 1934. Original pictorial wrappers made by the publisher from the dust jacket. Some restoration to rear wrapper affecting the right margin of the jacket copy, marginal stain to p. 27, light spotting to endpapers, else very good. FIRST EDITION, the extremely rare advance issue in wrappers. Fitzgerald considered Tender is the Night, his fourth and final novel, to be his masterpiece, surpassing The Great Gatsby. Following an initially lukewarm reception, the novel’s reputation has steadily risen. Ernest Hemingway later observed that “Tender is the Night gets better and better.” The novel is now acclaimed as one of the great works of modern American literature. The author’s first novel in nine years, following The Great Gatsby, Tender is the Night tells the story of the rise and fall of a glamorous couple, the psychiatrist Dick Diver and his wife Nicole, who is one of his patients. At the time Joyce’s wife Zelda was hospitalized for schizophrenia. The advance issue of Tender is the Night is one of the great Fitzgerald rarities Of Fitzgerald’s eight novels, this is the only one for which advance copies were issued. “They are complete texts – not dummies – and were probably intended for use as review copies and salesman’s copies. The Scribner’s records indicate that five hundred copies were ordered, but it is unlikely that that many copies were distributed because it is so rare: three institutional copies have been located [Virginia, Pierpont Morgan, and the Bruccoli Collection at the University of South Carolina] . These are the most collectible copies of Te … [Click Below for Full Description]

Koffler, Dosio
London, Prag, 1934. getr. Zähl. 8°, ill. [Click Below for Full Description]

CHAR (René)
Paris Editions Surréalistes 1934 In-12 broché (19 x 14 cm) de 144-(2) pp., couverture jaune imprimée, non coupé, infimes rousseurs éparses. Edition originale. Boothby, William T ("Cocktail Bill")
San Francisco: Boothby's World Drinks Co, 1934. Octavo, 270 pages. The expanded repeal edition of this important cocktail recipe book. The legendary Boothby, bartender at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, first compiled his drink recipes in 1891. He died in 1930. The recipes are organized by category of drink (cocktails, rickies, highballs, sangrias, etc.) rather than by base alcohol. DUNCAN-KEMP, A. M.
Sydney; Angus & Robertson Limited; 1934. - Second Edition; Cr. 8vo.; pp. xii, 296; b/w. frontispiece, 14 b/w. illustrations in text, original cloth, title lettered in black on spine, dustjacket chipped and worn on edges, previous owners bookplate on front fixed endpaper, page edges a little browned otherwise a good copy. Exceedingly rare to find a copy of the first (1933) or second (1934) edition with its original dustjacket. The scenes described in this book are laid on and around the cattle runs of the Corner, between the years 1906 and 1923; but largely on the authors home of Mooraberrie - an old cattle station of some three hundred and sixty square miles, lying a hundred and thirty-eight miles west of Windorah.
